Exotic fish and extremely talented chef!
Had a wonderful experience with my cousins who were visiting from out of town! they were very impressed by the authentic and fresh PNW flavors that Samurai Blue provided. Our Server was very educated on the menu which made it easy to decide :)
Great food and value.
Really enjoyed the Omasake! Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves sashimi and unique flavoring 🖤
The sushi rolls were packed with fish but did not come through with a whole lot of complex flavor. Delicious nonetheless and I would go back!
Delicious food and drinks! My entire group enjoyed it greatly and I would come here again.
The selection of sake is amazing. So many to choose from. All the fish was fresh and delicious. We had the Chef's Choice and were not disappointed. We will definitely visit again.
From now on this is where I will go anytime I want sushi. Very high quality, great service, fair pricing for the exceptional quality. I've eaten a lot of sushi and think I have a fairly high standard. No choo choo trains for me; I'm always willing to pay up for quality food. This place was a pleasant surprise and knocked my previous top pick down to 2nd place, which really surprised me. Nice going, I really enjoy being impressed by a meal.
Spider roll is superb. Great location for a nice dinner date.
Samurai Blue has the best sushi in Portland, in my humble opinion. The fish is fresh and they have intriguing specials. The salmon flight is amazing and last time we were there they had u usual fish just flown in from Japan. Delicious. I wish the interior would get a facelift and the space is quite loud but I keep coming back because the sushi is out of this world.
This is not a Michelin three star restaurant, with table cloths and wait staff that is trying to provide an experience more than a meal. It's one step above a "hole in the wall" kind of place. But the most important thing is that the sushi is incredible. Get more than one kind and share. This is not grocery store sushi! And my wife wants me to recommend the udon. :)
Good food and service. However space venue is quite loud
My partner was craving sushi and we happened upon this gem. We were a little hesitant when we walked in because it was pretty empty, I'm beyond glad we gave it a chance. The Ahi Poke was incredible, we actually ordered a second. And the sushi was super fresh (although not rolled super tight). Will definitely be back!
Fantastic and fresh sushi! Fast service, great ambiance.
The spicy Brussels sprouts are so yummy! There are some great vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.
I love Samurai Blues! Every time I come I'm always so happy and full when I leave. They have a ton of vegetarian options which is great for me because I don't eat raw fish. The best roll in the world is the Ponyo Roll. Also the drinks are delicious and the service is always spot on. Highly recommend!
We went there as a party of 12 to celebrate a birthday. They took great care of us. The waitress was sweet, funny and very attentive. The cocktails were great. Loved the ambience of the place. The sushi was maybe my favorite in town. Excellent overall!
I've been here many times and always had a great experience. Extensive drink menu, interesting rolls, and always extremely fresh. Highly recommend!
First visit I brought my Goddaughter. When my
Godson wanted to try it when he came in from Boston we had an equally good experience. The Kracken roll is a hot for spicy fans like me!
My husband and I went here because it had good reviews. We ordered a couple of apps and received them pretty fast. We ate them and they were amazing and moments later they told us they had given us the wrong food and we have to pay for it.
I feel like we shouldn't have had to pay for it and it was POOR service for them 1) getting the order wrong 2) making us pay for it. It was additional $30 on our bill. I would not go back or recommend it this place to anyone.
We have dined in San Francisco at some excellent sushi bars which were also very pricey. Samurai Blue measures up well as a great value for some very good sushi. Fresh, nice presentation, reasonable variety, and good service. Especially liked Fire in the Hole and Oregon rolls.
very happy to see a sushi joint open close to home. sadly, the sushi is just average. the fried calamari was mostly a heavy breading with hardly any calamari or flavor, altho the shrimp tempura was light and flavorful. overpriced for the quantity and quality of food.
My God Daughter and her boyfriend in town. met me for dinner here. Made reso's by Siri. Invite emails went out with directions outstanding service, amazing sake list. Sushi was excellent with beautiful presentation. They made a very important night for me very special.
My daughter lives in the neighborhood, had been before and loved it so we choose it as our Mother's Day destination. Service was strong at the start and then waned - I felt like we had to struggle to get attention for things after the food was brought (asked 3 times for extra ginger and wasabi over more than 15 minute period) - The atmosphere was nice, loved being able to sit with the open door as it was a beautiful night and the food was fresh and delicious - the saki recommendation excellent.
First and foremost this is a good restaurant. This was my first visit and expected something a little different...more traditional as far as a Sushi house goes. The menu was small and what I thought was not very well laid out, 4 types (yes only 4) of sushi on the front, a page of rolls and 2 pages of sake and beverages. In addition, our waitress did not tell us about any daily specials or other types of sushi that was available. The sushi rolls were creative and good too, but I felt that they were a little expensive, $10 or more per roll. Our bill for 2 people was $71 and that was with no alcohol. That is pricey to me..... Overall I will try Samurai Blue one more time to be fair of my judgement.
Food was good but for the price we have had better rolls at other sushi, and that is why the food is rated as good and not very good. Everything else was great.
Excellent food, perfect service in a very cool atmosphere.
The sushi was plentiful and good for the price. The presentation of the sushi was excellent for our table and others as we watched them come from the kitchen. My only complaint is the need for better ventilation. The minute you walk in you can tell that many food items are deep fried because the entire place feels thick with oil. I had to air out my clothes/jacket for days. Otherwise I thought the Samurai was generous with its wine pour, sushi and all the extras. Would return despite the smell.
