Samuel's At The Andover Inn Ratings and Reviews
There were five of us in our party who went to Samuel's on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm. We arrived ten minutes before our reservation and were seated right away. The atmosphere is very enjoyable and it was a pleasure that it was not noisy like some other places can be. The restaurant was full but the wait staff were very attentive but not intrusive. For appetizers we ordered the flatbread special of the evening which was a topping of duck, fig, and apricot glaze. It was outstanding! For entrees two of us tried the short rib risotto. It was very flavorful , the risotto was cooked to perfection and the serving was plentiful. I took one-third of mine home to enjoy the next day. Another one of our party ordered the salmon which she enjoyed very much. The other two ordered steak, one the filet and the other the hanger steak. Each of them were very pleased with their meals. The desserts were divine. We shared the chocolate lava cake and the bread pudding. We enjoyed our meal thoroughly and will look forward to returning again soon.
We were the only people in the restaurant for 2pm Sunday bunch! Service was very friendly and attentive, nonetheless.
Though the buffet was not very exciting, the addition of an entree helped round out the fare. Plus dessert!! Main courses were delicious, if a bit rich, on all counts.
You won't leave hungry!
We had a lovely dinner outside on the patio in unseasonably warm September weather. Jeff, our server, was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. The pork shank special was delicious, as was the lobster and mushroom crepe appetizer. Great food, great evening.
The food was outstanding (and I am extremely fussy about what I eat). I had the onion soup which was quite the best I've ever eaten: tasty, not too salty or oddly seasoned. We also had the delicious spring rolls, the chicken entree, and the cheesecake which was superb and very pretty!
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Dinner was very nice. We had a drink, appetizers, entree, desert and coffee. The food was delicious, the atmosphere very nice and the cost was not as expensive as I thought. Very nice for a special occasion.
My friend and I picked different steaks on the menu and shared them with a bottle of crisp white wine. The steaks were the best cuts and the most tender and decadent and delicious steaks we have ever had! The wine was wonderful too. I was not a fan of the bread or the outrageously loud noise coming from one table. We both like that place for the atmosphere but unfortunately it was super loud that night. :( our waitstaff were really friendly and helpful!
We had a very good experience at Samuels tonight. We started with special cocktails, strawberry gin breeze and a bourbon mint lemonade expertly made by the full barman. Bread came with hummus, olive oil and red pepper dip. We started with the delicious tuna poke (fresh tuna, seaweed, on a base of avocado) and the lobster and mushroom crepes. Both were expertly prepared and presented. I had the Delmonico Steak cooked medium rare and my wife had the porktenderloin stuffed with spinach and feta cheese. Both tasted 'out of this world'. Ended the meal with an espresso cheesecake and assorted sorbets from a local ice cream maker. Lovely with my Cappuccino! Attentive service by both waiters.
Samuel's is in a very pretty building and charming site, but the food was okay and the service was slow. When I asked about an appetizer - how big it was - the very friendly server did not understand me and thought I wanted it as a lunch entrée. Then she got the other orders at the table and was about to leave when I clarified that I did not put in my order, which is when the misunderstanding was uncovered. Perhaps the regular staff was on holiday, the waitress was nice but seemed inexperienced. We waited a long time for our food even though the place was half empty.
despite reading prior reviews of Dirty Silverware, we had the same experience. And watching the servers, they must also know this. Because at the wait-stand, they had replacement pieces at the ready. Really? Pay attention to this detail. For a $500 tab, clean everything please.
Antonio- the server - was superb. Very attentive without being intrusive. Food from the chef was fabulous.
Good not great. There were some fancy touches, and the lobster crepes had a great flavor. However, the steaks aren't aged and the fish is not particularly memorable. While there were several young children/families present, the highbrow wait staff seemed particularly disinterested in the kids, and as a father that was a turn off.
I've had a love/hate relationship with Samuel's over the years, but my latest experience was positive. Two friends and I met for lunch, and we were seated promptly. Our wait person, Damien, was very friendly and attentive, and put up with our crazy senses of humor! Two of us had the lunch special of a choice of soup and salad or soup and sandwich, a value at $9.50. Be aware, though, that only a few salads and a few sandwiches are part of the deal. The room is attractive, done in a gentleman's club style with a lot of large chairs and leather. I would definitely go back again.
