We've eaten at Samuel's at Andover Inn several times and have always had a good experience. The ambiance, service, and food have been consistently excellent. The server offered good suggestions, was very attentive, and made sure we were happy with our order. The food options are someone limited, compared to much larger restaurants, but still offered a satisfying variety of options. The meals were very tasty. I especially enjoyed the butter that came with the bread. It was very favorable and satisfying. I happened to run into the chef and in thanking him for an excellent meal, mentioned that I particularly enjoyed the butter. He explained they make it themselves by starting with regular butter and adding a few ingredients. I'm sold!
My wife and I shared a Creme Brule for dessert. We'll be back. It is a good spot for any special occasion, as well as just stopping by for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch.
Great place. Beautiful room, great food and service
Very pleasant atmosphere. Great waiter, great wine and great food.
When we arrived we were made to wait even though we had reservations and there were many free tables. Hostess was fumbling with menus and then seated people who came in after us first. We then waited at table for more than a few minutes before waitress appeared. Coffee took a while and the lattes were barely half filled in cup. Not worth the extra money there. Went up 3 times for fruit and each time was barely anything there. None of the bacon was crispy. We all ordered lobster eggs Benedict and we all commented on how LITTLE lobster there was. There were 3-4 specks of lobster on top. Creme brulee was fabulous. Not worth the $28 for what we got. Disappointing. Would not go back.
The food is consistently good and the ambience is warm and relaxing. This remains a favorite for us. Service, however, on this night was horrendous. This was an unlike our previous visits.
Great food in a very nice atmosphere.
Add great service (thank you Marcello) and you have a fantastic night.
Nice atmosphere, dark wood restaurant, with discreet bar and restaurant areas, but still open. Good food and good service. Very nice experience.
Love this place for regular dining or a special occasion. They never disappoint on any level great location on the Phillips Andover campus and plenty of free parking. Well appointed bar area if all you want is a light lunch.
I have been taking people to lunch at Samuels for a long time now. My son also hosted a brunch for my Birthday party. Each time , we were quite pleased with the service, the food and the ambiance.
My husband’s birthday. We had a delicious dinner preceded by great drinks. Our waiter was very attentive .
It was a wonderful evening. Can’t wait to go to Samuels again.
The wine is now quite expensive, which I hope does not keep people away. Our food was OK. We have had better at the Inn. My wife could not find an item on the menu she liked, but she liked the starter which she chose as her dinner. Short Ribs for me are always good as is the Salmon. The Caesar was not dressed. Bumber. Staff as always were outstanding. Woman receiving and seating us is new. Tell her she's important to the cause. She is the first person you meet. Incredibly important to get a good start to the evening.
We had an incredibly good evening the Friday after Thanksgiving when you served our family of 40 in the "back room". Sandra Hull, a very well known chef from Cleveland, who is normally an ogre, gave really outstanding reviews to the food you served to our family. She had been horrified we chose the Inn over where we normally meet on this day, the LANAM Club. The LANAM Club is normally closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but open for our family, and the children call the Club "Paradise". But she reversed her opinion upon dining that evening at the Inn. She is now a PA board member of some sort, so I hope this will be useful for the Inn. She is most persuasive in all things. Given our experience I have recommended the Inn to people for especially arranged large gatherings in the back room.
Outstanding service with great food. A quiet setting for a any important dinner.
Yummy breakfast, great service.
The seafood is always a standout. This, with a well-mixed drink and friendly service, made for a wonderful birthday meal for two of the four at the table.
Always fantastic brunch. Great value and great food in a lovely setting.
I only chose a recommendation of yes because I had eaten at Samuels for several lunches and the food and service were wonderful. Our service on New Year's Eve, however, was extremely slow. For a 6:30 reservation, we still did not have our salads at 8 pm. We didn't finish until 9:45! The waitress was pleasant and tried to be accommodating, but they were noticeably understaffed. The cost of our salads were taken off our bill, which was appreciated. I ordered a medium done steak and it came very rare and salty. I did not complain because I was afraid it would cause more delay in service. The vegetables were just OK but the Caesar salads were good. Overall, I would recommend this place for lunch, for sure, but not for a dinner on a typically busy night like the 31st. Very disappointing.
Love this place for either girls’ night out, birthday dinner with a group, or family meal with kids. Not run of the mill at all. Great food, drinks, and service.
I went with 2 friends for Sunday Brunch . Delicious spread of food and can pick from the menu and get dessert all for the same price. The food was prepared well and the service was lovely. Will definitely visit again.
Excellent food and service. We had lunch. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. The food was tasty and well presented. We’d definitely go back again.
Our visit to the restaurant was fine, and what we expected. Unexpected was the restaurant having no record of our reservation, although I had book that through Open Table.
We were given a table anyway, but that was disconcerting and makes me wonder about Open Table.
Samuel's is, quite simply, a class act! It feels like a private club where everyone is an important member!
My food wasn’t hot, not really even warm. They heated the fish up for me, but the rest was still cool. It was good, but nothing special. My friends were happy with their meals.
What a wonderful dining experience! The food was exquisite and the service was prompt.
Always great, consistent food.
Wonderful dinner and great service. We shared the lobster crepe for our appetizer which was cooked perfectly and vert tasty. For main course we had duck duo and filet mignon. Both were delicious and cooed perfectly.
Great dinner. Anytime we are in Andover we stay at the Inn and dine at Samuels.
Food and service was good
Worst service I have every experienced. No hostess available. After 15 minutes if waiting we had to walk around the restaurant to find her. Food came out missing side dishes and all condiments. Took 2 times and over 15 minutes to find our waitress to bring our missing food. Our breakfast was cold by then. Food was mediocre at best. I have had better food at many diners.
Decent comfort food. Many dishes way over salted, and I love salt. Otherwise a nice place for a relaxed dinner.
We had brunch for my daughters birthday. She loved it as did the other 3 of us. Will definitely come back.
We chose the Andover Inn for a family birthday because years ago we remembered the ambiance from the Ricestafel. You are very generous with the brunch buffet, entree plus dessert all served beautifully and delicious. I also loved all the choices on each. Our server was perfect: smiling, helpful, knowledgeable, but not pushy at all. Delightful day; we’ll be back soon.
Predictably good food in a beautiful inn setting. Service is always friendly, but food preparation can sometimes be slow. Overall, the best place to go in Andover for a great meal, whether it’s breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. I would highly recommend it.
Our waiter, Jeff, was great! He was not intrusive but answered our questions well. I’ve eaten at Samuel’s in the past and the food was better than before. Will go again as we like quiet restaurants with good food!
Rude manager made us feel bad for sending back cold food
Lovely, intimate, wonderful food !
I asked for a quiet area because my uncle has hearing problems, they were very accommodating.
Food was excellent, as always. Service was impeccable, as always. Our server, Jeff, was outstanding. Bobby and Eric, the bartenders behind the bar, are always fantastic, as well. The hostess who greeted and seated us was extremely friendly and welcoming. Always a pleasure and our guest said “everything is always so fantastic here - why don’t I come here more often?”
Exceptional food and service in a lively low key environment!
Service excellent. All our guests very pleased with choices
A nice spot for dinner in Andover, MA, staff knowledgeable and friendly and the food very good.
We were celebrating my brother and his wife's wedding anniversary. I chose Samuel's because it has easy handicap access - by brother has a cast on his leg while a broken ankle mends.
Our server told us a new sous chef was on duty in the kitchen - all of his meals that we were served were superb - Long Island duck, Swordfish with lobster risotto, and a strip steak. The white chocolate bread pudding was one of best ever.
This dining experience far exceeded expectations.
We had a family girls day including a 2 & 4 year old. Everything was great for young and not as young.
