About Permanently Closed - Sam's

A waterfront icon, Sam's in Boston, MA offers stunning views along with classic bistro fare. Emphasizing the seafood that arrives in the harbor each day, it also features a fabulous array of other dishes along with excellent cocktails.
Diners at Sam's can savor all of the raw choices so popular in seaside restaurants, but there are also charcuterie boards, including the chef's grand board. Small plates are also a popular choice with nibbles including house made potato chips or English pea toast. Soups, salads and hearty mains round out the options at Sam's, and the coconut rum cake is also a great way to finish a meal.

Sam's - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
My wife and took our twin daughters here for 16th birthday dinner. The outdoor terrace and ambiance was spot-on. Service was attentive, helpful, and prompt. The menu had enough variety to suit our temperamental palettes. Three of us are doing the paleo thing and had great fare of pork tenderloin and a scrumptious red curry mussels. We really enjoy this place, and love the connection with the Harborwalk with magnificent view onto the Boston skyline as unique.
I've always had excellent experiences at Sam's but this time was completely different. I didn't see one server smile the entire time we were there, which was over 2 hours. Drinks took forever and we did not feel welcome. One meal was sent back because it was burned so badly it was inedible. Once the new meal came, we all agreed that the food was very good. Overall, it's a great spot with AMAZING views and atmosphere, but the service culture and attitudes were bad. Disappointing.
Sam's is a great spot for getting brunch. A little pricey but that's to be expected.Food was very good and the view from the deck was great. My recommendation to Sam's is to get some umbrellas for the deck because it can be brutally hot out on their deck, also some music outside would have been nice. Otherwise great spot.
We love Sam's and have been coming here for a while, whether to have a romantic evening, bring visiting friends, or celebrate a special occasion. Sam's usually doesn't disappoint, except the most recent time when they didn't remember our special request - it didn't ruin the evening but felt like the person taking our request didn't care about our experience (he was quite curt and a bit rude on the phone too).
Also, it would be great if they added/changed around the vegetarian options on the menu- am getting bored eating the same things every time!
This is the one place in Boston that I know won't let me down when I have guests visiting from overseas. The view is wonderful. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable enthusiastic. Ambiance is comfortable. Jeans or dressy mix well here. Food is spectacular. Always surprises. Always pleases. Great for sharing...or not!
Went for lunch on a beautiful day. Location was outstanding with a fantastic harbor view. Food was interesting and delicious. My wife had the omelet and we shared the street corn and crisp ribs. Both were excellent. I have been here before for dinner but the lunch was a nice surprise. Don't be put off by the construction nearby. It is quiet. Will definitely be back
walked from the convention center for dinner. based on other ratings (and Yelp) I assumed that this would be slightly less high-end than it was. the servers were nice, the cocktails were interesting and good, and the food was excellent, just not cheap. has a nice future as the neighborhood develops around it.
Dining at Sam's is always a very pleasurable experience. It has it all: excellent, well prepared dishes by a great kitchen staff (creamy deviled eggs, sweet ribs, spicy mussels, and especially the seasonal heirloom tomato salad), outstanding harbor view, superb service, friendly staff, and warm, welcoming owners. It is a never fail "10!"
The food, service, and vibe of Sam's won me over when I first had a drink and appetizers there shortly after it opened. Estie is by far one of the most gracious hosts in the restaurant scene, and this clearly overflows to the staff. The food is always superb-- farm-to-table, fresh ingredients, and always highlighted. My only complaint is I wish there was some way the location could be saved; being in an open yet smaller space on the second floor with a wrap around outdoor deck overlooking both the city and the harbor helps create that intimate feeling of visiting a friend's home rather than a business establishment.
The staff is calm and attentive. The food selection is balanced and all types of eaters will find something for them. It isn't your average menu either, some nice surprises and curiosities. The food is super fresh and the portions are right. It is an overall delight from every angle.
The service was great! Our server was professional and knowledgeable. Definitely did feel rushed at this restaurant. The food was amazing! The crispy pork ribs, gazpacho, ceviche and the rib eye were all DELICIOUS! View is very nice, had it not been for the cranes. But what can you do? Overall, great experience! Will be going back when they relocate.
My wife and I were able to escape again to Sam's for the all to rare, date night. The meal was spectacular -- grilled chicory salad, tuna ceviche, local wild-caught striped Bass, fresh berries and an usual pound cake / biscuit cake with fresh whipped cream for dessert. A wonderful and well priced wine, beer and drink list (you've got to give the special summer cocktails a close read). Esti was a tremendous host as always. The entire staff was incredibly knowledgeable and responsive, each talking their own tables, and all others, as they might see something. They never disappoint and always astound.
My first visit to Sams. I was looking for a good place to have a business lunch with an international client. This was a perfect spot. The best part about it was the patient and professional service. We had a lot to talk about, my client spoke English, but it takes time. I felt completely attended to without feeling rushed or bothered. The server was patient with my client and I even though we had several questions and special requests. The food came in a timely manner and was exactly what we ordered. It was also very tasty. We were pretty conservative in what we ordered, but there was a really nice balance of offerings on the menu for the more adventurous.
The atmosphere was perfect for a business lunch--quiet enough for an in-depth business conversation without feeling stuffy. The view of the harbor, downtown Boston and even Charlestown was fantastic. I wanted my client to feel like he had a Boston experience and it worked out well.
Valet parking was affordable and convenient. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Strongly recommend a discount until the ambience improves. Not pleased with spending $140, knowing that the view was crushed concrete and construction equipment. Very disappointing for only a brief trip to Boston. Bad experience, no empathy. Food alone isn't solely the value.
Sam's is a great experience on so many fronts. Welcoming staff and vibrant atmosphere, great view of the harbor with lots of sailing activity, ferry and cruise boats, etc. Very nice, attentive, unassuming but polished wait staff. And, importantly, very, very good food such as the day's special - delicious striped bass caught that day, farm grown fresh vegetables, roasted asparagus beautifully garnished with nasturtiums and squash blossoms. Delicious bread! For a quieter evening, go early in the week or on a rainy day. Thursday on is fully booked, vibrant and happening!
Food was great and fairly priced. The service was good but atmosphere means everything to me when I go out to eat and because it was so crowded and noisy I would not go there again. I chose Sam's due to it's beautiful water views but there were no tables available outside so we sat inside. To be fair, maybe sitting outside would have made all the difference.
Sam's continues to impress...consistently so! The owners, the servers, the bartenders, the chefs all work in unison to create this enjoyable dining experience. The view is the best on Boston Harbor, especially from the popular patio. You will be impressed by the food, from the salads to the brunch selections to the entrees...and save room for dessert!
