A waterfront icon, Sam's in Boston, MA offers stunning views along with classic bistro fare. Emphasizing the seafood that arrives in the harbor each day, it also features a fabulous array of other dishes along with excellent cocktails.
Diners at Sam's can savor all of the raw choices so popular in seaside restaurants, but there are also charcuterie boards, including the chef's grand board. Small plates are also a popular choice with nibbles including house made potato chips or English pea toast. Soups, salads and hearty mains round out the options at Sam's, and the coconut rum cake is also a great way to finish a meal.
Great burgers and drinks... Will definitely come back
Seasoning was lack lustre. One dish too bland, another too salty. It was an "ok" meal, and enjoyable nonetheless because I like the restaurant's seting and energy. I've had better meals at Sam's. I'll be back for another try. But, please, step t up.
There's a lot of construction happening right now (June 2015) so the view isn't as nice as it could be. We go there at 1 PM on a Sunday and the outdoor seating was a 1.5 hr wait so get there early.
Sams's runs a tight ship. Food presentation, flavor, quality and presentation are designed to perfection. The menu changes with just the right frequency to keep it fresh and interesting. Everything on the menu is delicious!
I enjoyed Sam's. The burger was delicious. The Bloody Mary's were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC (and I don't even like Bloody Mary's!!). We sat outside and the view was a perfect touch to our weekend brunch date!
I think in a year this place will be better. The food was good but not great and the service was just ok. The view was great but the bulldozers in front of the view kind of ruined it for us. I think once construction is more complete in this area.
Loved it... Food was great and the gilt city deal was even better!
That had to be one of the best lunches we have ever had! We decided to sit outside, and despite the construction going on, the views were still pretty. We split the burger and the turkey BLT and we still can't decide what was better - they were both out of this world delicious!! Service was great, pricing was reasonable and we absolutely loved it!
Had an enjoyable evening for a party of three in their seventies. Noise was tolerable. The food was creative and delicious, but they need to improve on their choice of veggies that does not go beyond the baby carrots. I would definitively recommend the place for dinner. Total tab without desert and tip was $178. Service was very good and friendly.
It was my first time having brunch at Sam's and it was a great experience. Definitely will be back for more Sunday Fundays
Sam's scores on its view of the harbor. The brunch was as good as most places and the service was pleasant. Prices are a little high. The bloody Marys were large and tasty and the cappuccino was good. My eggs benedict were also very good, although I would prefer poached eggs to fried. My husband's huevos rancheros were not very good and not recommended, but that was the only sub-par part of the experience.
I love this restaurant. They have awesome food, awesome waiters, awesome view.
Their hostess, however, could improve her skills.
I told her that we had a reservation, but she reported to OpenTable that I didn't show up and I had couple unpleasant minutes speaking to OpenTable.
Sam's is all about the view... But for once, you don't get served overpriced mediocre food. Instead, the food is very nicely prepared and priced right.
The bar scene on the terrace after dinner is great!
We will be back!
The food was amazing. I believe the waiter said they made their food from scratch. The seating felt a bit crowded and it was a bit loud so I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic night. Other than that it was pretty good! Amazing food!
The deviled eggs, oysters, arugula salad and burger were all amazing. Love the place. Relaxed vibe with a nice view.
This is one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in months! The restaurant has a beautiful entrance with artsy chalkboard walls and flowers overhead. There's a good view of the harbor and the atmosphere is calm. I got the Heritage Pork Tenderloin and it was flavorful, soft, and juicy. The sides were spectacular as well, with the spaetzle providing a crunchy texture for contrast. My girlfriend got the Seared Halibut and thought it was completely delicious and a good combination of flavors. The crust on the fish was perfect. I don't even like fish and I tried some and loved it. Finally, for dessert we had the Pot de Creme Chocolate Mousse with Cinnamon which was also phenomenal. The chocolate was rich, but not overpowering. All in all it was a perfect experience and we left feeling the right amount of full.
The restaurant is gorgeous, very modern and minimal furniture in the main dining room. The best view in the city! They have a wall of glass doors and windows facing the water. The view alone is worth the visit. I was there for lunch with my Mom, we sat at the bar and our bartender was very nice. She made excellent recommendations of the Ceasar salad and short rib cheeseburger.
The menu is small but the food is very fresh, you can taste the difference. The Chef has a passion for food and that is exemplified in his menu and quality entree construction. I am looking forward to returning.
The only negative is that the outside esthetic looks like a large storage unit and there is lots of construction in the area that can make it difficult to find.
Valet park for $10, a steal in this city!
Went there for brunch. I recommend reservations as on this Sunday it was busy. We had a table with a nice view of the harbor. My wife had the corned beef hash which looked good and tasted even better. I had the Huevos Rancheros, (while not authentic) it was a very good interpretation and tasted phenomenal. We also share the crispy potato's and Chorizo plate. A perfect complement to both dishes. The cocktails we had were very inventive, fresh and refreshing, complementing our meal without over powering it. All in all I would recommend Sam's, in fact I plan on returning again. Oh and the service was efficient and servers were very polite and knowledgeable which always adds to a pleasant dining or brunching experience.
Absolute perfection in every way
In an increasingly competitive Seaport restaurant "scene", Sam's sticks to its winning formula and continues to deliver excellence in the quality of its food, beverages and service. Can't wait to return.
Went for a business lunch while attending a meeting at the convention center. The view was great. We ordered a couple of salads, a cold roast beef sandwich and a burger. Thirty minutes after we ordered I asked the server if he would mind checking on our food. His response was,"sir, your order included a medium well hamburger, that is going to take a while to cook, you just need to be patient." Wow! A simple, "I'll check on it would have sufficed." He never went and checked and it was another 15 minutes until our food arrived. Food was good, but nothing grand. Presentation was average. Go for the view...just keep your expectations of the service low.
5* exemplary restaurant in all aspects. Worth every penny.
The food at Sam's was some of the best I've ever had. Delicious and beautifully prepared. The location was good and the view was nice, although the view of the harbor will be much nicer once the current construction is completed.
Over-priced mediocre food. Zero options for vegans and very little for vegetarians.
We were staying at the Westin Waterfront and needed to find an interesting place to take a couple from Amsterdam as business guests. The area is still under active development and much of what I found on line were chains. Sam's produced a very nice lunch: between the four of us, we had clams and oysters to start, along with a green salad (huge), then baked campanelle (huge again), grilled cheese with tomato soup, a tuna melt and I can't remember what my husband had. We were all happy with our meals - nothing wildly exotic but all well prepared. Previous reviewers have complained about the cranes - yes, there's a lot of building going on, but we had a beautiful view of the water. The service was very nice. I'd happily go again.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I had been under the impression that Sam's was more of a neighborhood spot, but it really isn't. The prices are on the high side but everything we had was very good. Also, both of our cocktails were excellent, so kudos to the bar. My one comment is that the menu is fairly limited (steak, chicken, pork, etc.), so I can't see going there often.
Sam's is one of my favorite spots. The owners and staff are really welcoming, the food is good, and the view can't be beat. Tommy is a great bartender. I have some annoying dietary restrictions (which can make dining out a challenge, yet they are super accommodating there), and he always remembers that, even if I haven't seen him in months.
Second visit. Food was not great the first time so we decided to give Sam's another chance. Bad decision. The eggs Benedict was served with a fried egg, which would be ok but the eggs were totally overcooked. The yolks were hard as rocks. The English muffin and ham very very good but the side salad was just a handful of frisée with no dressing. Their Bloody Mary's were delicious. Great location, good drinks, but the food needs to improve.
Its unfortunate that there is so much construction. You were one of my favorite summer spots, with a beautiful view and lawn. I know it will get worse before it gets better and its out of your control. I'll still be back!
We were visiting and needed a nice dinner for two. Sam's has a nice, trendy feel, lots of exposed metal and wood and a great view of the harbor. Service was good, attentive and not pushy. Food was good with a cheese plate and great homemade jam. Nice pairing of main and sides. I would've wanted a little more selection of beers, but I'd good back without hesitation.
The menu is limited but consistently good. The prices are high but worthwhile. You can not beat the view of the harbor and the drinks are inventive.
Construction all around makes this place hard to find, and very unappealing. View of the water is more if a view of heavy equipment and we had to listen to a pile driver through most of lunch. The food was fine, so wait until the construction is done and it will likely be a nice experience...in the meantime, fine someplace else to eat..
Dinner was terrific and the service was prompt and friendly. We were a party of 3 who needed to be served quickly in order to make a show on time at the ICA, and the staff accommodated this need perfectly. The only negative was the noise level. At times, it was so profoundly loud that my dinner companions and I were shouting at each other in order to be heard.
But the view...aaah, the view.
Sam's is very consistent in every way! We always feel very welcomed the minute we enter. Everyone at the restaurant seeks to please. Our dining experience is a pleasure. The menu has a nice variety and each dish is prepared flawlessly and deliciously. You can't go wrong with the halibut, salmon, pork tenderloin, or Brussels sprouts. The scenic view is one of the best in Boston. Service, ambience, food, wine: the best!
The view is great right on the harbor and the waitress was very nice. We were early for our reservation on Easter Sunday yet the waitress still seated us right away. The food was great everyone enjoyed their meal!
Great view. So much potential.
Oysters were great . Steak was pretty good but nothing special outside it's price. Octopus was tough and beyond salty. Service was strained and just not nice.
Would go back for a drink and oysters in the summer but not for dinner again.
i come here often, but brought a friend now working in the Seaport who had not been. She loved it, both th food and the ocean view. THe food is always good, and healthy.
My wife and I went to Sam's to celebrate our anniversary. We used to go out In Boston all the time, but 3 kids later and it's more of a treat. We chose Sam's because of the view, but we received so much more.
The food is excellent, and offers a variety for all types. The Brussel sprouts were amazing and the Quinoa was nutty, aromatic and just delicious. The seafood is very fresh.
The bartender Tommy G.. was a great host, and we decided to eat our dinner at the bar and just hang out. The drink menu is unique using ingredients such as absinth and violet liquor.
Tommy treated us to desert which was decadent and the perfect ending to a great meal.
I would highly recommend Sam's to anyone looking for something a little different with great views, great food, and a friendly welcoming staff.
Have you ever heard the expression "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"? This is exactly what is Sam's all about. After our previous experience, when the new chef Jason Cheek just took the reigns of Sam's, we were a bit ( just a bit) restless with the departure of chef Asia to Moonshine 152.
Glad we are over-reacting. Last night's experience was simply perfect...We tried the Shrimps & Peppers, Beet Salad (courtesy of the house), Olives & Feta, Lentils and the Ribs...All, we mean, all was simply and beautifully presented, cooked and flavored. The best was that chef Cheek is not following anyone's script but his own; he is marking his style based on "seasonality, freshness, availability & creativity". On top of the culinary feast received we were mollycoddle by the Tommy at the bar and our hosts, with a sublime and warmth attention. this is why sam's still is our favorite place to have a Gestalt moment...Thanks guys. see you soon.
The ambience was great, the waiter was not. The old menu was very vegetarian friendly and the waiter didn't appear the least bit interested in accommodating our dietary restrictions for brunch. The omelette was uninspired and the potatoes were barely seasoned. The grilled cheese was tasty but that was mostly due to the incredible bread.
