Sam's on the Waterfront Ratings and Reviews
Quite frankly, Sam's is one of a kind. Although the menu is somewhat small its creative and you can't beat the view of the wealth floating in front of you. Most importantly the servers treat you like family. During a pouring rain storm our server Jason, came to our table, poured us some of our wine and excused himself and drove a bar patron back to her boat slip to ensure she got home safe. THAT is going "Above and Beyond" and we commend you Jason. Cheers!
I love, love, love Sam's!! For many years, my family and I have cherished this restaurant. It is truly our hidden neighborhood gem. The entire menu, including the bar options, is simply phenomenal. However, I was displeased on Tuesday, February 6th during the winter menu release night because our server decided that he should tip himself $14.83 on a $36 tab. While this is not typical of my Sam's experience, it is one that put a sour taste in my mouth.
I enjoyed EVERYTHING about the night. The service was awesome!! The food was very fresh and tasted wonderful! The only thing that I will speak on is the music in the bar area was a little loud for our table conversation. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the music but we had a difficult time talking over it. But, the next time, if there is live music, we will ask for a table away from the bar.
4th trip here dining room was terribly cold and the live entertainment was just too loud for the space. Not a bad performer but not a volume appropriate for the space . Service was fine. Food was not very good. My salmon was incredibly small for a dinner portion at 28$... It was served.on an appetizer plate.
Enjoyed the OysterFest so very much. Delicious oysters and we certainly enjoyed them raw and in stew. Would not have gone if it had been held outside, but inside was comfortable and everything seemed to be working well. Live music was wonderful background without being overpowering. Great job, Sam's.
While the food and service were both good, this place made me give a credit card just for a reservation, and then they automatically tack a 20% gratuity to a table of TWO! I mean, I understand when you get big parties to automatically add gratuity, but a table of 2 people?!?! Plus normally auto gratuity is 18% but they assume 20%. I will never go back just for this fact. And the thing is, I ALWAYS tip over 20%....
New Year’s Eve at Sam’s has become our family tradition - 4 years in a row now. Having younger children, we go to the early seating. It’s almost always a fantastic experience with amazing food. This last year was slightly off though. In the past, they’ve been fine with kids ordering off a limited kids’ menu rather than the prix fixe, but not this time. It also seemed like the portion sizes for the prix fixe menu were somewhat skimpier this year. Still, overall we were pleased with our experience and will continue to go back for both NYE and other occasions throughout the year.
Completely disappointed. I have been there numerous times before. Went there for Christmas Eve dinner, our server was completely inattentive. Would not even refill the waters, or bring bread to the table. Misquoted the specials. My wife’s rockfish was prepared horribly. No bananas for the flambé. What restaurant runs out of bananas? And they were completely presumptuous by factoring in a 20 percent tip for a party of four. Won’t be going back. I drive past plenty of restaurants where I can spend $50-$60 per person and have a much better meal.
Dinner was wonderful. But Sams changed their frequent rewards program without letting me know. I signed up for the new program and asked if my dinner could be included. I was told that it could only be done by the owner who was not in. I called Sams several times in the past 3 weeks but my calls have not been returned. This is not customer appreciation. I will take my business elsewhere.
Our reservation was for a party of two at 6:00 pm for the special Thanksgiving menu. The restaurant was very busy that evening but it appeared there were plenty of servers. When we were seated, our waitress asked us for our dinner order and we had to ask her if we could have a cocktail first! We had our cocktails and then ordered our dinner -- the traditional Thanksgiving entree and sides. The food was fine. We had also ordered dessert -- the Pumpkin Cannoli with chocolate chips and caramel. I had ONE chocolate chip in my Cannoli. Neither of us had any caramel with the Cannolis. When we received our check, a 20% gratuity was already added for this dinner for two. The actual menu for this Thanksgiving dinner stated that the price was $55 per person, "not including tax and 20% gratuity." This did not, to us, give us advance notice that there would be an automatic 20% gratuity added to our check. We chose to not cause a problem at the restaurant and paid the check but vowed that we would not return. In sum, we felt rushed with our dinner, received a dessert that was not as advertised, and were unfairly charged at 20% gratuity.
We've dined here numerous times and, to be honest, service & food quality have sometimes been inconsistent. Fortunately, the stars aligned on this visit & everything was excellent. I highly recommend the mussels & calamari for appetizers. The crab cakes are "the real deal" & are delicious. And, of course, the setting can't be beat!
Our recent visit was overall very good. The one problem we encountered was at our dessert. The restaurant was not very busy and after ordering we waited a good 20 minutes. We had been served our coffee and we had finished that, and we were told that the manger had to present our flambe but was very busy. I saw him walking around many times and was not sure what he was doing. We had just about were ready to cancel the dessert when he finally came over,. We then had to relocate ourselves if we wanted to see the presentation because of our location near a fire alarm. He did not apologize for the lateness, just said it was busy. I did not see the reason for the delay since again the restaurant was not very busy, probably 5 tables.
This was a blind-dining experience. Never heard of restaurant, just used the app to find something by the water with parking that I didn't have to wait long for Sunday Brunch. I chose outside, finding indoors to be a little musky in odor. I had reviewed the menu online before getting there and was pleased with the selections. My brunch dish was pricy and Dennys does a better job with their skillet dishes than the hash dish I received with a barely melted slice of American white Kraft cheese on top. That blew my mind especially for the cost. Probably won't return.
Our timing was unfortunate, and we were seated in an area along with a rehearsal dinner crowd. They were understandably loud, with little children running around, however they did have an impact on our enjoyment.
The food was ok, and the server just ok as well. I doubt we'll return.
We thought it would be a nice place for Sunday brunch on the water. When we arrived, the staff looked at us like they're not used to seeing people of color at the restaurant. Once we were finally seated, we had a friendly, but inexperienced waiter.
There were only 2 other parties inside the restaurant (one loud group of women) when we arrived, but it still took forever for our appetizers of
bland calamari and bland lobster Mac and cheese to arrive. The lobster Mac and cheese had a good amount of lobster, but the mac and cheese tasted like it came from a box. It was a watery mess. We then waited at least 30 more minutes for our main course to arrive. No one refilled our water glasses or checked to see if we wanted more water. Once we got our food, our kids liked the Nutella strawberry French toast. My shrimp and grits lacked flavor. My wife's meal of of lobster hollandaise was average. We ordered one bloody Mary that tasted like it was watered down or the Bloody Mary mix was old and needed to be tossed out.
Bottom line... we won't be back. The food was mostly below average. We did not feel welcome. The only upside was the friendly waiter (even though he was inexperienced and told us he'd just started).
We returned for a Kobe burger special. The prior week, the meat was outstanding. This time , the burgers were extremely overdone, but we opted not to return them, because we felt guilty about waste. We did mention this to the waitress and to two hosts near the door. They did apologize. The waitress does not know about serving properly, which means refraining from clearing the table at any place, until all have finished eating. This instruction should come from the top down to the servers.
Not a great lunch out!
A friend and I decided to go to Sam's for lunch. I had not been there in many years so why not try it. It's in a great location with a view of a marina and water. Unfortunately, it was raining so we had to sit inside. There very few people there and it took some time to find someone to seat us. I must say I noticed a rather musty smell when we entered. When we first were seated, I noticed that the knife at my place was not clean and so asked for another- I understand this can can happen. I ordered a lobster roll. The roll was very small and rather bland. I was enjoying the nice, fresh crisp fries when I noticed a hair on the plate under the fries.... and at $23.50 for lunch I expected a bit more lobster.
My friend said her crab cake was okay. The service was quite slow despite the fact that there were few diners there. All in all though a most disappointing experience.
Food was good my wife had shells in her crab cakes though. Service was average to below average the restaurant was half full but still very noisy. The outside bar was full and very noisy. Extremely casual customers, men and women wearing tank tops and flip flops. It says waterfront but it's in the back of a marina surrounded by condos. No ocean view or walking afterwards. If your looking for ocean front fine dining look elsewhere
