Sam's Ocean View
Moonlit evenings and beautiful brunch views, Sam's Ocean View has it all!
Stopped here right off of plane. Sunday brunch menu had a number of options. Local mixed greens salad was excellent. Went with burger because we had so much seafood over the last week. Burger was below average. We came at the end of the lunch rush and service was slow/lacking. Atmosphere and view was great.
Our waitress was wonderful. Made up for the extremely overpriced food. My girls got 2 pancakes (nothing else) for $9. I did not care for the food or presentation especially for the price. The view was beautiful and our waitress stupendous. But we had to try it once for ourselves. Probably won’t go back and we are locals.
Lovely place overlooking the beach and palms. Good food, service, terrific ambience. Not a bad seat in the place.
Had a fantastic evening food was great and the service from our lighthearted fun loving server made our evening even better. Met Sam too.
Just make a reservation and go.
Had shrimp with heads on in garlic olive oil !!!
The seared ahi steaks were delicious
Painkiller served in the official tin mug well made
We’re local. Can’t beat the view in Kapaa. The food and service are great. The crispy cauliflower is awesome. The park crust fish is great and my wife loves the veggie coconut curry. Easy parking. Can’t wait to go back on date night!
The view was beautiful, the food was wonderful, the service was wonderful. We didn’t love that we had to chug our cocktails and eat our dessert very quickly. We were asked to leave because there was somebody else waiting for our table. 90 minutes to have cocktails, an appetizer, dinner, and dessert is not long enough for a proper meal. Just our opinion. We definitely felt rushed at the end. We did not feel rushed at any other restaurant in Kapa’a.
Great view with excellent food and service
Fabulous hostess, gorgeous view and food was great!
Service was prompt, pleasant and timely. There when you needed something but not overwhelming.
All our dishes were good and the atmosphere was great. All in all we had a great time
Honeymoon. Incredible food and staff! Focaccia bread was to die for. Shrimp primavera was the best we’ve ever had
Went for our anniversary and stated that on our reservation. Nothing special that I am aware of. We shared the cheese sandwich appetizer. It was delicious. I had the fish and chips and my fries were cold and me wife’s were hot. Not sure why/how, and frankly the fries were meh. I had to ask for salt, and 99% of meals I never add salt. They cook them dark so they look like sweet potato fries, but they tasted kind of burnt. Service was so-so, but honestly everybody was hustling, just not enough people (clearing of dishes, cocktail glasses, etc was slow). The fish was actually delicious and the view really fun and animated. So overall a very uneven experience.
This is the only negative review that I have left in my 2 weeks in Hawaii. Very disappointing experience. The local fish dish was overcooked so it was dry. We asked that the fish and chips come with mashed potatoes instead of fries and were charged $6 extra but were not told that it would be charged as a side dish. They should have brought both since they charged for both. Will definitely not recommend.
This is a gem of a place. It really is a farm to table restaurant. Everything is local and cooked to perfection.
I had the flank steak and my husband had the ahi tuna.
The staff is super nice. You need to make reservations otherwise there is a 2 1/2 hour wait. The outside is deceiving. Do not hesitate to try it.
Dinner was awesome! Reservations were easy to make and the whole dining experience was pleasant. Had a table looking over the ocean. Staff was great!!
Food was exceptional. Staff very friendly and latte very view. I would highly recommend.
I think a lot of the restaurants in Hawaii are struggling with re-opening so I don’t want to be too harsh. Service was not so good. Drinks and food took forever. However, the food was absolutely wonderful. Parking is not the greatest so allow time to find a spot. We’d definitely dine here again, and I’m sure service will improve as everyone tries to get back to some sort of normalcy.
Was amazing. Not cheap, but worth every penny
Food was great. Service was great. Peaceful setting for brunch.
Beautiful oceanfront views. Tasty drinks. Food was pretty mediocre. We got ahi poke nachos to start which were fine, though very sparse on the tuna for an $18 appetizer. From when we placed our order with the waitress, it was approximately 45 minutes before our entrees came out.
I ordered fish and chips. Fish was fine. Fries all tasted burnt and I did not finish it. Cole slaw did not taste very fresh either. My fiancé ordered the chicken which was so dry and flavorless she gave up after 3 bites. The risotto was also bland.
After a week in Hawaii this was our most expensive meal and, unfortunately, worst tasting meal. The view was great but if you go here, just be mindful that you are paying for the view, certainly not for the food
Loved the restaurant— it was a lot of fun, has a fantastic , food and service was great. Highly recommend the parmesan fish. Was cooked perfectly!
Excellent food! We had fresh catch and pasta. Great view and a nice breeze that was perfect. Friendly staff and a great bartender. All drinks are made with local citrus. Beer was cold and a good variety. Make a reservation.
Awesome view, the food was incredible and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. We were there for my husbands birthday and they even sang for us with was so kind.
We were greeted and seated on time. Our waitress was super nice and efficient. She handled every request cheerfully and quickly. We were there for Sunday Brunch.
We had made reservations weeks before our arrival on Kauai. The setting is very nice, open air looking out onto palm trees and the ocean. We were seated and waited for 10 minutes for someone to fill our water glasses. We ordered two drinks from the bar which were slightly above average. We then ordered two dinners and waited nearly an hour for them to arrive at our table. The meals we ordered were two appetizers and fish and chips. The food was so-so. During our dinner we were largely ignored by the wait staff. After finishing eating our dinner it took an additional ten minutes to get anyone’s attention to ask for “to go” boxes. We finally waved down a bus person who brought our boxes. We had to ask for our check numerous times. Our wait person acknowledged us, but continued to take orders from other tables before getting around to delivering our bill. In all, this experience took 2 hours. It may be that the staff is tremendously overwhelmed. It may be that the staff is tremendously inexperienced. In either event, we will not be back to Sam’s Ocean View.
Back on Kauai
Their kitchen closes at 9pm, yet they are booking 8:45pm reservations. We had all of 8 minutes to place our order once we sat down furthermore the hostess (or maybe owner) was slightly drunk, and visibly annoyed that we had arrived despite our reservation that we confirmed twice. The food is some of the best we ate in Kauai and the ambiance is great, but be prepared for an unpleasant, haughty welcome... the opposite of Aloha. It ruined the experience for me.
The view is cool and the food good value, but ask for Viren to be your server: she’s super attentive, friendly, and a first class server. 5 stars for her. Viren is the most rockin waitress at this place.
Feels a bit rushed when the hostess tells you about the 90 minutes at the table policy as she drops you off at the table. Restaurants should remember - time at the table is determined by speed of service as much as the customer.
We booked it at the last minute and we were very thankful. Had a wonderful view. Very good food. Service improved throughout the night. You won’t be disappointed.
Incredibly tasty food and the nicest staff. There is a wonder ocean view too.
We had a bad experience here but by no means the fault of the food or people there. We happened to be there on the night the termites decided to fly in to the restaurant during their two day mating season and ended up leaving through our mela after getting covered in them. That being said our bill was comped and the owner was so very nice about the whole situation. Before we left we managed to try the pina coladas and they were amazing.
Fabulous from the mai tais to the entree.
Best Sams experience ever! Best restaurant on Kauai for sure.
We love this place. The staff is so nice and accommodating and the location and ocean views are stunning. Everything on this menu is delicious. For appetizers I love the buffalo cauliflower and the grilled cheese is to die for.
Love this spot
Perfect place for a beachside dinner or drinks! Great ambiance. The Parmesan crusted fish is excellent. The menu overall could use a couple more options. I recommend!
One of our favorite places when we visit Kauai. Ahi nachos are wonderful as is the Parmesan crusted fish!
Wonderful location. Great service. Exceptional food.
Absolute must try!!!
Great service and view. Food was good, fish a little over cooked and dry. Especially since it was 38.00 ..should have been perfect at that price.
