Sam's Ocean View
Moonlit evenings and beautiful brunch views, Sam's Ocean View has it all!
Ambience great and Abby, our server, was outstanding! We both ordered the special for dinner (Mahi Mahi) which was delicious. Highly recommend !!
What a great dinner and very accommodating with 3 small children. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Looking for great food with a view and laid back local Kauai ambiance, come to Sam's!
The live music was perfect as well. Mahalo
When first pulling in, I was thinking, where did I bring my wife on our 10 year anniversary vacation, for dinner. Parking can be tight and sparse, but we managed. Walked upstairs, was immediately seated. Definitely looked better from upstairs. The view was very nice. We ordered the Crispy Cauliflower as an appetizer. It was really good. My wife had eggplant parmesan and I had seared ahi steak. We both really enjoyed our meals. Our final bill was about $100 standard tip included. We enjoyed our meals so much that we went back for our last dinner on the island.
The ambiance, food, service & view are out of this world! We will definitely be returning on our next trip to beautiful Kauai!
10 year anniversary vacation
The live music made it very hard to hear our server while ordering. Luckily it ended after a little while. I do NOT recommend their mai tai, way too much grenadine makes it taste like cough syrup. However, the service and the food were excellent!! One last tip: do NOT pull into their parking lot, there is no room. Park on the street instead
On a recent trip through Kapaa Sam's did not look like much but we soon learned better. We stopped into Sam's for Happy Hour and ended up returning for dinner on two subsequent evenings. Start at the Bar for drinks with Allie and the crew. She is the best bartender that we have encountered in a long time. More of a tour guide than a bartender with some great island creations. We tried several appetizers and each was delicious especially the roasted cauliflower. The fish was all fresh and selections like the parmesan crusted Opa and the Scallops were expertly prepared. Nothing was overly crusted or sauced letting the quality of the fish shine through. Leave room for dessert as they are a wonderful ending to the meal. We loved the Pineapple Upside Down Cake and the Ice Cream selections. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and we never felt rushed even though the dining room is small. Request a table on the front wall for an open air view and experience but all of the tables are tiered up toward the back bar so every table has a view of the surf. We treated ourselves to a great dinner before heading to the airport to catch a red-eye flight back to the mainland. Sam's is a little pricey for the Kapaa area but well worth it in quality, experience and setting.
Parm crusted opah delicious. Seared ahi great. Guitar & vocal very nice. Service very good. Too dark for ocean view but enjoyed the breeze & sounds of being close to water.
Sam’s is a cute small boutique restaurant with limited seating. The size and atmosphere are quite appealing. The waitstaff tried but seemed overwhelmed with trying to handle the customers in a timely manner. It took about 10-15 minutes to get our drink order, but only about 5 minutes to get our meal after that. We hadn’t mentioned to hold off on serving us, but didn’t expect the meal to be delivered so quickly. It seemed like a fast food delivery of our order. Not what we expected. With no facilities to keep our food warm, it was cool by the time we were ready to eat. The food was quite good, and the waitstaff did apologize for the very quick delivery of the food.
Food was excellent. Drinks were just okay
Wonderful meal, excellent service and fabulous view!
Food was outstanding.
Drinks a little disappointing.
Sams is our Go-to place for meeting friends for Sunday brunch. Being able to choose among many delicious options to build our own omelets makes it easy for is to get just what we like without crossing the boundaries of special diets like ours. Service is always friendly and the view can’t be beat!
Great food in a relaxed atmosphere with a killer view of the ocean.
I didn't really like the new menu or the price increases. I always enjoyed the fried chicken but now it is no longer available. Also, it was very loud and we were unable to have much of a conversation.
Our friends recommended Sam’s recently and we finally tried it. Great view on the beach, but it was pretty windy. They even pulled down the storm door/windows for a bit. The service was friendly and very efficient. My husband had the fish and chips which were excellent. The Parmesan crusted opah was perfection. The green onion mashed potatoes were very tasty. We shared a pineapple upside down cake and loved it! Good coffee to finish. We will be back...jazz duo was fun too.
We had a fabulous dinner tonight and the atmosphere was beautiful! The waiter was very personable and very informative about menu selections. Overall it was a great experience. We’ll be back!
Good food, charming wait staff. Noise level uncomfortable, had to yell to be heard.
We arrived five or ten minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. Natasha did a great job taking our order and pacing the delivery of our appetizer and entrees. Our drinks and ahi nachos (best on the island) arrived almost simultaneously. I had the fish and chips, which were almost as tasty when I finished the second half for lunch the next day. My wife enjoyed her equally generous portion of Linguini with Basil & Arugula Pesto Sauce. Alas, as we did in our many previous visits to Sam’s, we failed to leave room for dessert. Next time!
Delicious food! One of our favorite restaurants on Kauai. The atmosphere was amazing - great views and cute decorations. Make sure to order dessert!
We thoroughly enjoyed dining at Sam’s Ocean View! The food was fabulous, the service was stellar and the view was spectacular! We will definitely dine there again!
Great food, good combinations, cooked to perfection, attentive staff. extensive drink menu and one of the best views on the east side. Sam and Jill as always superb hosts.
Best view and ambience. Old Hawaii at its best. Fabulous entertainment. We went two nights in a row and brought friends the second night
The food is delicious and the wine list is a lot of fun. I have to be gluten free and they were wonderful at accommodating me.
Requested a great table and was accommodated nicely. Drinks were very good but pricey (even for happy hour). Salad and fettuccine was good. Saved room for desert and was rewarded with the best part of the meal. Both the chocolate cake with coffee ice cream and the pineapple upside down cake with coconut ice cream was amazing. I told the waitress next time no entree and give me 2 deserts. 2 drinks 1 salad 1 entree and 2 deserts = $98
Was pricey but the view is amazing (less the park hippies) and the food was quite good. Would recommend for happy hour drinks, date night or special occasion. The restaurant got much louder once the live entertainment started.
Our server Abby was wonderful. Everyone from the hostess to support staff was professional and efficient.
Enjoyed our dining experience at Sams. Ocean view, great food, enjoyable music, and wonderful service. We felt one of our best evenings on our stay in Kauai.
While this had always been a special and wonderful place for us, our experience this year made it seem even more so. The food was terrific, the ambience, while casual, was so welcoming and pleasant making us grateful that we had booked to come one more time before we had to return home from our holiday.
Great restaurant with a cool, laid back, “beach vibe.” The ocean view is excellent! The drinks and fresh fish entrees were superb! Service was fast and efficient. We highly recommend Sam’s Ocean View for a nice dinner!
Celebrating my 60th birthday with friends from the mainland. This was our first trip to SOV. Our rating for a one on service stems from the fact that we were a party of six that ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees, and a dessert and were rushed out of the restaurant after an hour and 15 minutes, and members of our party needed to use the restroom while we were paying our checks (which had to be redone even though we said how the checks were to be broken out; and they were still not correct but we lived with it). The servers were fine, it was the front personnel that kept walking to where I could see them in our view, showing their impatient looks with hands on their hips. I may be 60 but I am pretty sharp! It really dampened our first impression. The food was great. The entertainment was great. I think if you have larger parties you can expect them to take longer than one hour and fifteen minutes. I also do not appreciate the comment of one of the front hour staff about she was glad we liked the music since it appeared to be an issue; we had a person who wears hearing aids and we were seated in front of the music - which was exceptional. We were concerned about his ability to hear, but if we had to wait for another table it would have been a 30 minute wait, despite our having a reservation. We definitely would not return with a large party.
When you have a spectacular view in a terraced restaurant where nearly everyone gets one, where you have truly great food, live music and a terrific server (Tyra), you have to give it 5 stars all day long! We had the crispy cauliflower to start, so, so good! My husband had the sliders "called a small plate", which was almost too much for my big appetite guy. I had the Wagyu flank steak with grilled prawns, chimichurri sauce, perfectly done! And we had room to share pineapple upside down cake with whipped cream and coconut sorbet. Wow is all I can say. Go there, I insist!
Went for a great Sunday brunch. Their homemade corned beef hash is amazing. Fantastic service, one of the best views on the island, and a reasonable price.
Being on a staycation and visiting Sam's for the first time, I was overall satisfied with my visit. The interior is unique in that it seems to have no particular theme as far as decor along with a huge garage door opening above. This was not concerning and the views are better during the day to see the water, at night it is not visible. If you plan on water views at night, this it not it. The food was satisfactory and the descriptions were almost exact to what you receive. I ordered the seared Ahi with fried rice and got exactly as described, it was cooked right. My wife's wagu steak was cooked correctly as well, but found it weird that everything had cuts in it, as if to test for doneness. It tends to be loud so if a quite dinner is planned, go elsewhere, if you dont mind the noise levels, its a good choice.
Excellent food and service in a fun vibrant spot with a great ocean view! Highly recommend!
This was a last minute decision to try this restaurant because I thought it just a bar with bar food. I was so surprised with the delicious food I ate. The ocean view was wonderful and the staff was so friendly and fast. I would eat here any time!
Super cool spot for casual or special occasion dining. Delicious food. Live music. Loved it!!
A great first meal. Beautiful setting, great service and WAY TOO MUCH FOOD!
My husband had the cauliflower appy which was yummy and I had a green salad with blue cheese which was huge. My Ono was tastier than the sea bass special that my husband had, but the service was great and before we left made reservations to return in 10 days to bring our friends! A must try.
Fabulous spot! Lots of fun! Loved the grilled cheese 😋
