Sam's Ocean View
Moonlit evenings and beautiful brunch views, Sam's Ocean View has it all!
I’ve traveled quite a bit, and have eaten at some great spots. From a food truck in Oakland to fine restraints in Paris. Sam’s has a nice view, decent (but overpriced) drinks, and loud music playing. If that’s your thing, go for it. If your looking for delicious food, go somewhere else. I had the parmesan crusted fish,($38) w/mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The food sat for a while, it was tepid. Portions were small, you would think I’m on an island, why the fish so small? the waitress was pretty much overwhelmed. My wife had fish and chips($26). The fries were okay, but also sat and subsequently cooled. The fish was over cooked. The Ceasar salad was fresh. Nice people, great view, I’ve had incredible meals for what they’re charging, this place fell flat.
The poke nachos and SOV grilled cheese were really good. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The wagyu flank steak was lacking and so was the service. If we go back, we will just do happy hour and order apps.
great view for brunch made my own special salad with side which was very good. Friend had fresh catch benedict which was good. Didnt realize they close at 2.30 and reopen at 4 so we wanted another drink but were told no so moved on
Worst experience. As locals, my husband and I love eating at Sam's and enjoy bringing friends and family here when they come visit. So we decided to take my parents to Sam's for the Sunday brunch. Unfortunately, we had Candace as our waitress who made our whole dinning experience awful. She could not be found for 20 minutes and after asking multiple employees to get our waitress, no one could seem to find her. Finally when we did see Candace, she was highly confrontational and rude. My Dad's fish sandwich had a super bad fishy smell and did not taste good. My Dad asked to order the chicken sandwich instead. Candace had an attitude and became irritated with us, saying "I can't help you didn't like your sandwich." Then began to blame management and saying it's not her fault and got very defensive. Candace fought with us when we asked to take the sandwich off the bill (since my Dad sent it back and did not eat it), absolutely ridiculous. She was very unprofessional and it's unfortunate because we loved Sam's. We understand our waitress has no control over the kitchen and food quality. However, customer service should be a priority and having a bad attitude towards customers should not be tolerated.
Food was ok, but not great. My salad was completely wilted. The service was good except the person removing bread plates grabbed my utensils where you put them your mouth and set them on the table and when they refilled my water glass, they grabbed it from the top where you would put your mouth to drink from. Needless to say I grabbed new utensils and didn’t drink any more water!
We booked a birthday dinner at Sam's Oceanview restaurant and were looking forward for it. However, we were surprised to know when we arrived that most of the menu items were not available because they were sold out on that day. Any professional restaurant would expect that on a busy weekend and adjust accordingly or at least even let their clients know in advance.
It was too late to make other plans so we had to order many of their appetizers that didn't really live up to the expectations we had. The restaurant manager was also not very helpful when she just said "oh this is unfortunate".
Quite a disappointing experience.
Fabulous food! Great service. Extremely uncomfortable chairs.
Good food and drinks, excellent service and a fantastic ocean view.
Great location and view, but food was not that great.
Food was great, drinks were blah and the view was gorgeous
The food was good and the oceanfront ambiance really nice. We initially felt that maybe dinner time was the wrong choice even though we got a shore side table because it was dark outside, then the moon came up over the ocean and the view was quite stunning. All the items we ordered, from appetizer to dessert, were prepared very well. Parking can be tight because the place is directly off the main road, but they have a parking lot in the back of the restaurant.
Great ocean breeze. Tuna with fresh fried rice was tasty. Did not care for the Mai tai…very sour. The Java Ian kiss was a lot sweeter. Son had eggplant parm that was fasty. Poke nachos were huge.
I love Sam’s! Always a great experience and the best brunch!!
Candace our server was awesome. Beautiful view
This was the best food we’ve had on Kauai thus far. I had the Parmesan crusted mahi mahi and by partner had the vegetarian quinoa bowl. Both were amazing. Our waitress was the best. I can’t recommend this place enough.
Spectacular location for Moon Rise! Great service & flavors.
Everything was perfect including the amazing including the view!
Fantastic views, excellent food and service. Louie was charming and Sam made the rounds talking with each table (Huge kudos to any proprietor who does this!). Thanks for making our evening special
Fantastic restaurant. Great food. Wonderful view.
Great view of ocean. Lots of Oceanside tables. Good choice of food. Ours was late so they bought everyone drinks
A raucous bar with better than average food. The view rates 5, the food 4.5, the noise level a 1. Intimate conversation was not possible. The server could not hear over the noise so we ordered by pointing at the menu. Two hours for appetizer, entrees and dessert. Left quickly after paying.
So so so good! The drinks, the service, the food, and the view were wonderful! Will hopefully be coming back soon
We had a great meal sitting by the open air/ocean view
The service was great but the food was mediocre. I was looking forward to the cauliflower appetizer but it was burnt and soggy so we sent it back. Our waitress took it off our check. The margaritas were wonderful as was their hot and crunchy fries. Enjoyed the beef sliders but nothing special. View would probably be more enjoyable without the flies and bumble bee. Not returning.
Casual eclectic funky beach vibe. Not a “high-end” but not. “beach-bar” either, something in between. Great daytime views from virtually every table — as with most places there is no view when the sun goes down. Food was above average and cocktails were excellent. Service was good and we did not feel rushed . Will definitely visit again . Go early to catch the sunset.
Wonderful experience and the view is spectacular. Koloa Mai Tai was the best I’ve ever had. Food was delicious and our server was a doll. His timing was perfect. If you’re on the Coconut Coast on Kauai, come to Kapa’a and dine at Sam’s.
Beautiful view, outstanding service & best fish ever!!
Food, atmosphere, service was very good. Drinks watered down, soft drinks were flat.
We had a 6pm reservation and were sat at 605 which is fast. We got a corner booth style table which was great for myself, hubby & our 11 month old active baby. The drinks were great & so was the food. Fish & chips were great! The view was nice too, we got there just after sunset so it didn’t last long but it was still great. And the music was loud enough to drown out our baby’s fussiness but not too loud to have a conversation. Overall a great place to go but make a reservation for sure!
View was great, food was good, friendly service.
Great food, awesome view. Couldn’t ask for a better brunch spot.
Great food great people great space. they do fill up so make a reservation.
Food was delicious, server very attentive, view magnificent
Service was waaayyyy better than food.
Great place to eat. Amazing views. Beautifully crafted cocktails. Excellent food selections.
Our table was marginal for having reserved 10 days beforehand. Small restaurant with a beach feel. Waited 15 minutes for a table. That’s alright since we weren’t in a hurry.
The food was excellent. Our server was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to our next visit.
Good place for young couples. Very eclectic vibe. Would give 5 stars overall but the kitchen had issues with getting dinners out on this occasion, probably a fluke. Would recommend trying.
We had a dinner reservation, arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately.
We ordered the smoked salmon appetizer which was very good. My wife had the arugula salad with the fresh fish of the day. I had the Parmesan crusted fresh fish. Those dishes were excellent.
We had mai tais and the house wine (Pinot Grigio). The drinks were good and a couple of dollars off during happy hour.
The view from the restaurant is very nice.
Our server was very nice and friendly.
Parking is always a challenge at this location.
We will be back for a future dinner.
Table was ready when I arrived. Great views, great service!
