Sampan - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely amazing cuisine. Table of 10 including a vegetarian, non-beef eater, and a patron with a poultry allergy; all left extremely satisfied with full stomachs and a healthy appreciation for the finely crafted offerings. A must visit if you're in the city on business as we were, or if you're an area resident. Great fun and delicious eats.
Great food!! Only slight negative was but the portioning and timing of items from kitchen. Since they do not do courses/time the servings in the kitchen, you have to really think about what you order if you want to try to do an appetizer and courses to your meal.
The fried rice, soup dumplings, and pork belly buns were awesome.
Had a lovely dinner at Sampan. My group went with the chef's tasting menu and was very pleased. Typically the entire group must participate in the tasting menu, but since I am vegan they allowed me to order separately. The separate vegetarian menu was great, with clear markers for dishes that could be vegan. The waitress was extremely accommodating. She even gave my my own vegan dessert (sorbet) to enjoy while the rest of my group had theirs. The food was delicious as well.
My girlfriends and I really enjoyed it! The only thing that we would change, will be the lighting. It was so extremely dark that you couldn’t even see your food,
Our favorite parts of the meal were the swordfish Satay & The Chilean sea bass. Oh and I cannot forget the edamame dumplings!!!
We will definitely return🍷🍴
Food tasted good but service was rushed and food was all brought out at the same time. Most things were then cold by the time we ate them. We ordered the tasting menu and it does not make sense to get course 2 with the main course. Overall we were disappointed and hope that the restaurant addresses this.
Overall our experience was fantastic. We ordered a number of plates for the table to share so we could try more. The food was delicious! I did not like that there are multiple hostess stands and they won't seat you until everyone has arrived. The mulitple members of my party were all at the restaurant, just at different stands, which the hostesses did not track, and therefore waited extra time before figuring out that everyone was there.
We met friends in Philly for the weekend and had 4 kids ages 7-12 with us. We were seated immediately and the waitress was attentive. There were lots of great options on the menu and the food came very quickly. We thought the duck was amazing, the kids loved the soup dumplings and everyone loved the satay. Reviews said it was noisy but that didn’t bother us. Drinks were great. Would highly recommend.
Waitress was not too friendly and constantly rushing us through our meal. The edamame dumplings were not the original broth and honestly not good anymore. Too many dishes needed salt which was disappointing.
We spent a ton of money and got a lot of dishes, but left thinking I would never go back. Buddakan is a much better value and the staff are always really nice.
We were seated 30 minutes after the time our reservation was for, which happens commonly at this restaurant. When I told the hostess that this has happened before, she made an excuse and didn’t even apologize for the lateness. This takes away from the quality of everything else (
I’ve never had a bad meal here. Food is always spot on. However, this time was a terrible dining experience. I placed my order around 8 pm (5 people, huge order) and I think everything ordered was rushed to my table by 8:15pm. What kind of experience is this? Have you ever heard of coursing out a meal? This shouldn’t be like eating at Panera or Shake Shack. I’m spending over $60 per person, I expect some kind of dining experience. Don’t rush me out of there. If it was my first time, I’d never go back.
I love love love the food here. However some small plates are really small and overpriced whereas with others you get a lot of food. The price is good and you can try a lot. However the restaurant on a Saturday night is too loud, too quiet, and they rush you out.
This was our first visit and we went with the 7 course tasting menu. Each bite was well presented and, more importantly, very tasty. By the end we had plenty to eat and the miniature twin soft serve cones were a perfect palate-cleansing finish. The servers were friendly and helpful. All in all, we will put in on our go-to list when we are in town.
