Sammy G's Tuscan Grill Ratings and Reviews
The host wasn’t the most gracious. He told us we would have to wait 15 minutes so the kitchen could catch up on orders but then sat us a few minutes after checking in. The food was good and it’s in a good location. Our waitress was very nice and turned the evening around for us.
THE ONLY THING THAT WE WERE AT FIRST DISAPPOINTED IN WAS WE MADE RESERVATIONS FOR THE TABLES OUTSIDE THE BAR BUT BY THE BAND AND WAS CALLED BY THEM THAT MORNING CONFIRMING OUR RESERVATIONS, WHEN WE GOT THERE WE WERE TOLD THAT A LARGER PARTY WAS GIVEN THAT ROOM. IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT THAT WE STAYED AT THE HIGH TABLES IN THE BAR AREA AND ENJOYED THE SINGER AND MUSIC.
Once seated we waited quite awhile for a server. We ordered a bottle of wine which after opening I told her she brought the incorrect bottle. She had not shown us the bottle to confirm prior to opening. So we waited for the correct bottle to come....but the biggest hold up was they had a wine glass shortage. So we had to wait too long for glasses. The establishment is so large that the food appears and tastes as if it is mass produced rather than individually overseen. I would not return to this restaurant .
Wild Mushroom ravioli was amazing and sausage and artichoke risotto great as well. Famous black Manhattan tasted great but weird served over ice in tumbler and NOT shaken into martini glass....calling it “famous” was a overreach. Romaine Wedge salad was a large portion that tasted good but more blue cheese and dressing would have been better. Overall we’d come back again. Food was very good.
The initial welcome from the hostess was indifferent at best. She actually seemed put out and tried to give us a table that you would use for someone waiting for carryout. Thank God she walked off and a waitress came up and asked if we had been helped. Service food and experience were all fantastic from that point forward.
Food was delicious. They sat us outside as they had no room inside. Was very cold outside, even with heaters. They failed to mention to Opentable or to us when we arrived that they were closing at 8:00 pm on Christmas Eve, and that's why we were seated outside! We were not anticipating eating Holiday meal in coats!!!
Second time there. Sat inside on a closed patio. It was a cool night. Outside had heaters and fire pits. Had veal Marsala and the veal was a little tough. Not bad but expected a little better. Was celebrating a birthday and they gave you a complimentary glass of amaretto and biscotti for everyone. Busy night during Christmas but no waiting and good service.
We were seated in the tented room. The ambience was good the staff were a little late in offering us a drinks service but that was OK as it gave us a chance to take our time over the menu. We hate being hurried between courses and you are not here allowing time for conversation.
One of the best overall spots in downtown Palm Springs. Consistently good to excellent in all areas. Reasonable prices, large portions and warm, friendly, efficient servers. The Sand Dabs are some of the best things on the menu. The Wedge made with Romain is a must also. Our most repeated spot in the area.
I first ate at Sammy G's in April 2017 and enjoyed my meal very much. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Since I was coming back to Palm Desert in December, I decided to have another dinner at the restaurant. Once again the meal and the service was great. Both times we ate on the patio - lovely.
Great location. Atmosphere is barely a notch above Olive Garden although it’s priced like a higher-end restaurant. Food is fine, but there are much lower-priced Italian restaurants with much better food like Mario’s, and much nicer higher-priced restaurants with much better food like Guiseppe’s. I really can’t think of a reason to go back unless my car died in the parking lot, and I was starving.
We are new, part time residents of the Palm Springs area and are experiencing the local restaurants. We chose Sammy G's this very early evening as we need to be up at 4 am for a photography shoot.
The service was fabulous! As for the food, we shared the Calamari appetizer which was one of the best we've had over the years.
My wife enjoyed the Gnocchi although the serving was enough to feed an army. I had a wonderful Cioppino, although again, far too much food!
Ending the meal with a small snifter of Grand Marnier (?) and biscotti was the proverbial icing on the cake.
We plan to go back!!!
We were on vacation and enjoyed a great evening with our son and daughter in law. Lacy our server was fantastic as we've known her for years. The food and ambiance is second to none.
We'd highly recommend Sammy G's to anyone wanting an excellent dinner and ambiance.
We were looking forward to this meal since the other reviews were so positive. The ambience was fun and the singer was crooning Frank Sinatra songs. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The Bolognase sauce tasted like it was out of a jar, the gnocchi was disappointing.
The place was packed and I had high expectations but I was disappointed in the wine and entrees. Main dishes (homemade meatballs and gnocchi) were SUPER salty but otherwise bland. Salad and garlic bread we're good but I wouldn't return just for those two items.
Seeing 4+ review on your site, I expected something better. I think it is good if you like comfort food.
I ordered Eggplant Parmigiana and my husband Chicken Milanesa. Both were deep fried therefore tasty, but not healthy.
The service was good but a bit slow. I had to remind the waitress about the bread she was going to bring.
I don’t think I will be going back. There are so many restaurants in Palm Springs.
I had the create your own, penne pasta with sausage and pepper and it was delicious, cooked to my liking. The only issue I had was service was not all that great. In the beginning of our dinner it was okay, wait staff was attentative but towards the end of dinner not so great. We felt like we were being ignored, we wanted more water and took awhile for someone to come over and see if we needed anything else. I was considering coffee but by the time wait staff came over, I was ready for check and leave.
Good food and service. One thing is don't bring the complimentary liquor to table after meal. I am allergic to alcohol and after I told the waitress, she would not take back the alcohol. She left it on the table which can be dangerous for many who don't drink.
