Sammy G's Tuscan Grill Ratings and Reviews
The place was packed and I had high expectations but I was disappointed in the wine and entrees. Main dishes (homemade meatballs and gnocchi) were SUPER salty but otherwise bland. Salad and garlic bread we're good but I wouldn't return just for those two items.
Seeing 4+ review on your site, I expected something better. I think it is good if you like comfort food.
I ordered Eggplant Parmigiana and my husband Chicken Milanesa. Both were deep fried therefore tasty, but not healthy.
The service was good but a bit slow. I had to remind the waitress about the bread she was going to bring.
I don’t think I will be going back. There are so many restaurants in Palm Springs.
I had the create your own, penne pasta with sausage and pepper and it was delicious, cooked to my liking. The only issue I had was service was not all that great. In the beginning of our dinner it was okay, wait staff was attentative but towards the end of dinner not so great. We felt like we were being ignored, we wanted more water and took awhile for someone to come over and see if we needed anything else. I was considering coffee but by the time wait staff came over, I was ready for check and leave.
Good food and service. One thing is don't bring the complimentary liquor to table after meal. I am allergic to alcohol and after I told the waitress, she would not take back the alcohol. She left it on the table which can be dangerous for many who don't drink.
Anniversary dinner. The service was excellent and the food even better than the service. Great atmosphere and a romantic setting for your special occasions, dates or just fun. We have been here many times and we have never been disappointed. Will continue to go to Sammy G's when we are in Palm Springs. Great evening.
This was our first experience at Sammy G’s and it was absolutely amazing!! My parents were visiting from New Orleans and we thought the atmosphere and outdoor seating of the restaurant would be great to bring them for dinner. Everything we ordered was phenomenal and I have already recommended this restaurant to several people. We will definitely be back.
We were disappointed that we did not get to be seated outside on arrival. When they called to confirm our reservation we did not have a preference but when we arrived there were lots of empty tables outside so we asked for outside. They would not accommodate. They said you did not indicate outside so inside you go. No negotiation. Disappointed. Our waiter Rene was excellent. The Bruschetta appetizer was just chopped up tomatoes over bread. No flavor at all. The baked bread and spread was great. Wedge salad was Ok. Chicken Carbonara was excellent! The Rib-eye was very grisly, disappointing, but the good pieces I could cut out were excellent. Will try the Filet Mignon next time.
This was our 2nd time dining there and the first time was so enjoyable we came back. Next time I will ask for a table outside. Then patio is dressed up with twinkling lights and is very pleasant. The food was delicious and the servings big. Both my husband and I took home leftovers. The service was not as attentive this time but we will go back again because the ambiance is so nice.
A great place for a special event. This was our 30th anniversary celebration. The menu is big enough to offer options but not overwhelming. Our server Sergio, recognized from a visit months ago. He was attentive and helpful offering good information to make decisions. The food was very good.
I had never been to Sammy G's before and my client from Houston always like to try something new, so it was new for both of us. She told me that she would definitely come back in the future, when she and her husband are staying at their new home in Escena. I will be back myself in the future. The food and the service could not have been better!
We loved the food and ambience. But we were very frustrated that we were charged a "sharing fee" of $6 each for our entree, without even telling us!!! We didn't find out until the bill came! To have $12 tacked on to the bill, without acknowledgment or explanation was uncalled for!! Not cool.
The menu is very ordinary. The same thing every mediocre Italian restaurant in America carries.
However, I was looking for a place that serves pizza in a cloth-napkin environment, so I was ok with the mediocre menu. I had two pizza dishes in mind. When the waitress mentioned the daily specials, the sea bass caught my attention because of the lemon/ butter/ caper sauce. When I asked her recommendation between the two pizzas and the sea bass, she upsold me to the sea bass. The sauce was delicious, the fish was cooked to perfection, but the restaurant lost me as a potential repeat customer, since I hadn't had a chance to try the pizza. She could have said something like "Pizza and the sea bass are two very different choices. What are you looking for?" She could have talked a bit more about my interests and could have convinced me to have the sea bass that evening, but to come back again for the pizza.
The bread served was ordinary french bread. The potato and green beans were ok. Later a bridal party was seated in the room where my table was located. My waitress has obviously served a lot of these parties in her day. She was pushing booze. She gave them tips of things to do for the rest of the evening, including stopping at a bar where a friend of hers would give them special treatment if they mentioned her name.
I ordered dessert despite the fact the room was warming up. (This was the beginning of a heat wave, but the restaurant's ventilation wasn't quite up to the task.) As soon as the dessert and after-dinner drink had been served, the waitress left my check.
All in all, the place seems like just another ordinary tourist restaurant. Ok if someone drags you there or picks up the tab. Not worth going out of your way for if you are an adventurous diner.
My husband and I had gone earlier this year for our anniversary. We enjoyed it so much we just had to go back! And we did. Though we did have reservations, we also wanted a particular table (by the windows) so we ended up with a 45-minute wait. But, we got the table we wanted and a server with outstanding attitude! THANK YOU, JULIAN! Food was as phenomenal as previously.
The atmosphere is romantic with subdued lighting. The bar across the hallway has live music from time to time which can get a bit loud in the dining area. My husband and I are both hearing impaired so that does present a bit of an issue but otherwise, we DO love live music.
Overall, very nice dining experience and we fully expect to go back for another visit next time we're in town.
Searched for a fun classic Italian restaurant for my Birthday dinner to top off a wonderful weekend in Palm Springs. Found Sammy G's on line.
From the moment we walked in, the staff was amazing and welcoming. The wait staff was charming and helpful. I was the only vegan in the group and our waiter made suggestions and gave complete information to accommodate my choices.
The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was comfortable and fun.
Simply a great evening thanks to a great restaurant experience!
Sammy G's has always been one of my favorite restaurants in the desert. It has a beautiful patio (weather permitting) and everyone is treated respectfully and with special care. The food is wonderful and so is the ambiance. I always enjoy bringing visiting friends to this jewel of downtown. My one disappointment is that they no longer offer the lunch special for locals (burger or chicken sandwich)in the summer.
