Bring back the Brussels sprouts fulltime
Typically love the concept of Sama Sama, despite the varying food quality, as it did Friday night. We ordered 2 sets of wings, first batch came out PERFECT, crispy and full of flavor; second set, 30 mins later came out soft and not fried at all, which was off putting enough I took them home to make Asian fried rice. Very disappointing, but Niall the times I’ve been to Sama Sama, that seems to happen every time - inconsistency of food quality.
Unfortunately, Service was seriously lacking. After original food order was taken, waitress was no where to be found. Had to ask another waitress for second round of drinks and food order, and had a difficult time getting the bill. It’s going to take some time before going back.
Even after sharing a few plates I had to steal half of my partner's desert. Not because I wasn't satisfied (I was!) but because those banana fritters WERE AMAZING. And I don't even like bananas. Fritters changed my mind. Service was great, too, nice ambiance, but... FRITTERS. ooooh.
The food and cocktails were great. We had the spare ribs, nasi goreng, fried chicken bao, crispy duck salad, and donut fritters. Would order all items again except the crispy duck that was more like dry duck. The salad was also quite spicy and could use more grapes (sweetness) for balance.
The space is very loud, particularly if you get seated next to an energetic group at a communal table.
Tasty, unexpected flavors; great service; lovely ambiance.
The wings are the best!
Such consistently amazing food! Our server, Brianne, who made the experience so positive and provided over and above hospitality
My wife and I had a great dinner over the weekend. Outstanding service and the food was well executed. I'm surprised this space wasn't more busy for the quality that is coming out of the kitchen.
AMAZING, finger licking food. Services was nice and knowledgeable. However, everything came out too fast, wished it had been spaced out. The food got cold quickly. It was great for a date if you sit closer to the front door. The acoustics near the back were bad. I will absolutely be coming back!!! It was DELICIOUS! The Vietnamese wings and Brussels Sprouts were perfection
Food was amazing, service was great & loved sitting in the back patio! Will definitely go back on my next trip to SB
Tyler is the man!
The octopus dish is too salty! please reconsider your brine.....🙏
The food was delicious, our favorites were the ribs and Brussels sprouts. The service was amazing and attentive, but the noise level killed almost all dinner conversation. Sound proofing really needs to be added to the ceiling area.
Great food, location, interior decor, comfort, ambience and service.
We shared a lot of the plates on the menu between us and everything was great including the specials. Between us we had a mixture of cocktails, beer and wine and all enjoyed our drinks.
We had a late seating at 9.30pm and missed out on the Bao and Noodles but everything else we ate was delicious. We were still at our table close to midnight after everyone had left and staff had started to pack away - we didn't want to leave!
Everything we ate was delicious- the tamarind wings were my favorite. The service and the cocktails were great also!
The vibe was great, but the food was all very over-fried. Especially the Bao Chicken sandwich, the chicken was dripping in oil. The savory donut was also over-fried.
I would however, go back for the chicken wings only-- they were delicious!
The Brazilian girl is a fantastic server! Made our experience even more special. Food is awesome too!
Fantastic place, amazing food and great service!! We would definitely go here again.
We made reservations on open table for 3 people for 7 pm . We arrived Briana misunderstood and thought the reservation was for 7 people....
Briana looked at an iPad and then proceeded to make up a table for 7. After a wait I reiterated the reservation was for 7 pm not seven people. This of course made the start of the dinner off to a rocky start. We ordered 2 crispy rice salads ($14 each ) and Brussels sprouts $16. Absolutely delicious. We ordered Chicken Bao ($14) Mie Goreng.($12) Pence Ranch Chardonnay ( $57).
We then ordered the Branzino ($38). The menu described this as follows: FRIED BRANZINO COCONUT CURRY SAMBAL,SALT-ROASTED SWEET POTATO,ONG CHOY,PICKLED RADISH........No where on the menu did it mention that this was a whole fish fried. The Branzino arrived and we were stunned to be staring at the entire fish eyes and teeth INCLUDED... we asked how do we eat this? One of the waitress passing by said she thought there were not many bones and we can eat the skin. Our waitress Brianna was now no where to be found. We did our best to bone the WHOLE FRIED 14-16 oz fish. The flavors of the coconut curry sambal was flavorful however the difficulty trying to debone the fish did not make this dish worth it.
It was wonderful sitting on the patio on a warm summer evening and quieter than indoors.
The crispy rice salad was amazing! It was so flavorful and spicy with the satisfying crunch of the crispy rice making it a perfect dish. I wish I lived in the area so I could go back to order it again and again.
The food is delicious, but given the super-casual atmosphere this restaurant is too expensive. Would be more in keeping with the ambiance if prices were lower, and you could just order at a counter, then sit down at the barren tables for your family-style meal. It's noisy here, fun and friendly, but this is not fine dining, more like fusion tapas. We had a good time overall, and the waitress was nice, but it won't be our regular place.
Some amazing food! A bit pricey for the portion you receive. They are small plates to share but $58 for fish is ridiculous!
We went on the last day of a blissful vacation and it couldn’t have been a better way to end it. The crispy rice salad was so delicious we spent all night trying to figure out what was in it so we could recreate it at home. And we have the loveliest server who we loved chatting with.
Drinks were sooooooo slow and food was hit and miss. Tofu is amazing
Unique and flavorful food.
The food was delicious as always. Especially the crispy chicken wings. The outside patio was pleasant and relaxing.
the food was great but the restaurant is INCREDIBLY loud. not the best place to take a date or anyone you want to have a conversation with. also we got seated next to the door and the host could not keep the door shut and we were freezing. worth it for the food.
The cocktails were tasty, especially the tangerine spritz. The green papaya salad was over dressed. The crispy duck salad was great. The egg noodle dish with napa cabbage needed a whole lot more vegetables in it — it was mostly noodles, but it was seasoned perfectly!
Worth the wait (and the noise level). Exceptional food and unexpected drink options. Can’t wait to go back and try three more dishes on the menu!
As always a wonderful dining experience, some of the most unique and delicious food in Santa Barbara. Noise level inside is very loud and makes it difficult to converse. I wish the patio were open during the week.
The outside patio in the back was perfect for a graduation celebration. Much quieter (my dad, who is hard of hearing had no trouble keeping up with the conversation) and there are heaters to keep you warm on chillier nights. The food was outstanding - we all had different favorite dishes because they were all so delicious that it just came down to personal preferences.
Love this place! Sit outside if you can and enjoy the excellent happy hour or romantic dinner for two, this place is great for groups or dates. Make a reservation too it books up.
It wasn't even full of people and the sound just bounces off the walls making it loud like a gymnasium. Plus the food is excellent and unique but a bit on the pricey side. Still worth it because the food is EXCELLENT.
Great service despite it being super busy and of course the food was great. Super informative and friendly bartenders too
Very little flexibility with special requests: can you replace the egg with another protein? I’m allergic to eggs. Very small menu. More a bar menu than a full restaurant. Couldn’t find reservation and placed us at a long communal table outside with slanted wooden table so eating at a slope. Servers not knowledgeable about ingredients: “does the drink have added sugar?”
The food is delicious and creative. I am not crazy about the indoor seating, but the outdoor seating is a lot of fun. The mango sticky rice is nothing like Thai Mango Sticky Rice...so I would suggest passing on that. The whole fried fish was excellent-as were the ribs-very meaty and tender.
