Samatha is a terrific server, very personable. The crab soup was delicious. The shrimp was the best I’ve ever tasted. The chicken wings were hands down the best we’ve ever had. Also has a salad with warm blueberries and balsamic dressing. Outstanding. All in all, we would definitely go back and recommend everyone try this restaurant .
First time eating here. Noted the large seafood entrees but good choices. Coming from a seafood city found their choices were good but not the best I have eaten. Would probably not go back. I think it would be fine for those who like seafood in general.
Was a loud party of girls soccer players there which accounted for the noise, but not for the first 2 entrees which were sold out by 6 pm, and the wine which they didn't have but replaced with a warm bottle of another "equal" wine. The corn meal dusted trout was very good, as were the fried oyster appetizers. Hush puppies were little overcooked rocks. Disappointing despite a charming waitress.
Delicious fried oyster appetizer - maybe best I have ever had. Very good cream of crab soup.
Good, attentive service.
Myself and some fellow work colleagues enjoyed a lovely Valentine's dinner at Sam Miller's while visiting Richmond for business. The food was delicious and the drinks were fresh. Our server Mel was so attentive and eager to make our experience wonderful. The lobster corn chowder was perfection.
Had a great lunch with friends! Service and food was fabulous. Great atmosphere! Will definitely return at some point. Trying to get into Town more often to experience all the eclectic food finds.
We were very impressed with the welcome and the service we received. Our server was excellent and made suggestions as it was the first time some of us had been there.
Food was well prepared and presentation excellent.
We went to Sam Miller's for New Year's Eve, and it was an absolutely wonderful time. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic, and the experience was memorable. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for cozy and intimate setting in the bustling Shockoe Slip area,
I enjoy coming to sam millers for special occasions due to the location and the historical building.
We come for the food and ambiance.
Food was good for the price. Service was a little slow. Nice place to meet friends. Will definitely return.
Food and service great.
We went there for Thanksgiving. It was our first time eating at Sam Millers. So, I was really worried about eating there. I have many food allergies and I have had several bad experiences at other restaurants. I contacted Sam Miller’s ahead of time and the event manager replied via email w the options I could eat. I was still very nervous. I had additional questions when I arrived. I talked to the manager who talked to the head chef. She was very willing to answer my questions and offer reassurance. I’m pleased to say the food was very good and I had no reactions.
It was a cold and rainy day - perfect day for some of Sam Miller's crab soup and one of four ordered crab cakes. Delicious! We also ordered a dozen steamed oysters and a dozen fried. I preferred the steamed yet that's just a personal preference. Will come again :)
All staff pleasant and welcoming. Our waiter was excellent. Food very good, nice variety. Atmosphere very nice. All in all a wonderful dining experience.
The food was very good, the only exception is the appetizer wings could have been crisper.
This was our first visit to Sam Miller's and we'll be back. The oysters were fresh & tasty, as was the seasonal cocktail. Our serve, Mel, was very pleasant and helpful.
The crab cakes were delicious. Enjoyed the restaurant being in a historical building. Great place for a special occasion.
We ordered the oyster Rockefeller, mussels, 8oz fillet, and the crab cake everything was cooked to perfection. We were able to talk with the cook to pick his brain about what he enjoyed cooking. The hostess and waitress were amazing. Great beer and great wine.highly recommended
A few of our dishes came
Great table server, very attentive. Fresh and tasty food. Great drinks. Very nice e ambiance.
This was the first time that we went to Sam Miller's and can't believe we have not been before. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great and service was top notch! We will definitely be back again!
The staff was attentive. The bartender was great. Food was wonderful! Need to go more often!!
The food was very good; however, our waiter barely noticed us. Service was poor and almost non-existent.
Nice place. Relaxing. Enjoy the downtown scene. Good food and drinks. I had a taste of my kids food, that was good too. I would come back.
So the description my husband came up with was: It's like eating at a Red Lobster at Morton Steakhouse prices. Very accurate.
Loved the Valentine's special 3 course meal and the music was excellent. First time there and will repeat
Great setup. Valentine's Day was my first time there and I will now become a regular. Everything exceeded my expectations.
The Atmosphere was Amazing!!! My date and I really enjoyed the food... And the service was superb. We were given a window seat which suited us well because we quite enjoyed people watching on Cary...lol. We had a 3 course meal; The starter arrived shortly after our drinks, Our Entree was prepared well, our vegetables were crisp and our dessert was to die for. I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends.
Went with wife and didn't realize Valentine's Day was being celebrated on the 11th. Menu was set so could not order off regular menu but menu was good but very limited. If you are a seafood lover they have the best. Oysters, fish, lobster it's all prepared really great.
We had a group of 16 and we received excellent service. Everyone was pleased with their meal. We have business dinners at Sam's at least once a year and they're always great.
Fixed menu for NYE. We both had the petite filet with skewered shrimp...excellent except for the balsamic reduction. Didn't seem to fit and was a little overwhelming. I had crab soup which was great, as was her lobster bisque. Key lime pie and crem Brule were very good. Nice atmosphere, good beer menu. Live band was pretty amateurish. Trumpet player did NOT need a mic in that venue, but he used one anyway. This was why we left right after dinner. Overall good place. We'll be back.
My family and I celebrated Father's Day Brunch at SM and we had hoped to get back for another family occasion. When searching for New Year's dinner destinations they had a spot and I jumped on it. Glad I did and glad we did! We were not disappointed with our overall dining experience once again! They serve solid culinary staples in a way that you would ask for more if you weren't so full from the generous portions!
From seafood to steak and everything in between Sam Miller's gets it right! I have a VERY picky set of eaters on my hands and my children always are excited to return to Sam Miller's as am I! Just looking forward to another reason to celebrate over a fine dinner at Sam Miller's!
We had had such a fabulous meal and friendly, attentive service during fall Restaurant Week that we decided to return. Much less impressed this time, both in terms of food quality and service.
The relaxed atmosphere was nice for our staff's holiday lunch.
Just ok this time. I usually like Sam Miller's but this trip was not quite as good as usual. They were out of all burgers and red meat menu items. Service was super slow and my waiter seemed to not hear me when I asked for things. Food was good tho.
Great place for a business luncheon. The food was served hot. Took a group for Christmas, so service was a tad slow.
Lunch wasn't great. There are better food options available within close walking distance.
Food and service was very good. A very busy night for the staff but they handled everything very well. Excellent drinks from the bar.
The Thanksgiving menu did not include options for vegetarians. The pasta offered was bland with no sauce. We took our dessert with us but the portion was basically a spoon full, very disappointing. However, the entrees for non-vegetarians was delicious. The brussel sprouts were amazing.
