We went there for Thanksgiving. It was our first time eating at Sam Millers. So, I was really worried about eating there. I have many food allergies and I have had several bad experiences at other restaurants. I contacted Sam Miller’s ahead of time and the event manager replied via email w the options I could eat. I was still very nervous. I had additional questions when I arrived. I talked to the manager who talked to the head chef. She was very willing to answer my questions and offer reassurance. I’m pleased to say the food was very good and I had no reactions.
It was a cold and rainy day - perfect day for some of Sam Miller's crab soup and one of four ordered crab cakes. Delicious! We also ordered a dozen steamed oysters and a dozen fried. I preferred the steamed yet that's just a personal preference. Will come again :)
We ordered the oyster Rockefeller, mussels, 8oz fillet, and the crab cake everything was cooked to perfection. We were able to talk with the cook to pick his brain about what he enjoyed cooking. The hostess and waitress were amazing. Great beer and great wine.highly recommended
The Atmosphere was Amazing!!! My date and I really enjoyed the food... And the service was superb. We were given a window seat which suited us well because we quite enjoyed people watching on Cary...lol. We had a 3 course meal; The starter arrived shortly after our drinks, Our Entree was prepared well, our vegetables were crisp and our dessert was to die for. I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends.
Went with wife and didn't realize Valentine's Day was being celebrated on the 11th. Menu was set so could not order off regular menu but menu was good but very limited. If you are a seafood lover they have the best. Oysters, fish, lobster it's all prepared really great.
Fixed menu for NYE. We both had the petite filet with skewered shrimp...excellent except for the balsamic reduction. Didn't seem to fit and was a little overwhelming. I had crab soup which was great, as was her lobster bisque. Key lime pie and crem Brule were very good. Nice atmosphere, good beer menu. Live band was pretty amateurish. Trumpet player did NOT need a mic in that venue, but he used one anyway. This was why we left right after dinner. Overall good place. We'll be back.
My family and I celebrated Father's Day Brunch at SM and we had hoped to get back for another family occasion. When searching for New Year's dinner destinations they had a spot and I jumped on it. Glad I did and glad we did! We were not disappointed with our overall dining experience once again! They serve solid culinary staples in a way that you would ask for more if you weren't so full from the generous portions!
From seafood to steak and everything in between Sam Miller's gets it right! I have a VERY picky set of eaters on my hands and my children always are excited to return to Sam Miller's as am I! Just looking forward to another reason to celebrate over a fine dinner at Sam Miller's!
The Thanksgiving menu did not include options for vegetarians. The pasta offered was bland with no sauce. We took our dessert with us but the portion was basically a spoon full, very disappointing. However, the entrees for non-vegetarians was delicious. The brussel sprouts were amazing.
Went to Sam Millers for Thanksgiving with friends and was very please with the offerings, as I was not wanting a traditional meal. All three meals were fabulous, desserts (key lime pie) was out of this world. So many offer key lime and so few do it so well. I want to go back to try their brunch soon.
Went to Sam Miller's on Friday for date night. We were promptly seated, but then it took at least 10 minutes for our server to take our order and bring back the beverages. We were served our food with no silverware. We asked for a refill of bread which took 20 minutes and the it took equally as long to get our check and pay. The food was fine, however their prices are much higher than most restaurants we frequent with the same if not higher quality of food. Overall, I would not go back, there are too many other options in Richmond.
Love the crab cakes-consistent and always tasty; same for fries, sweet potatoes fries. For calorie conscious there is cuke and tomato salad. Fried oysters are yummy, crab soup is excellent. Never get to dessert--too full. Shrimp on salads could be grilled for better taste/texture. AC a bit on the cool side.
