Salvatore's Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
Refined experience the moment you walk in. David is a great host, the wait staff very attentive , polished and professional, the ambience is classy without being pretentious, and there’s noticeable attention to detail everywhere (quality of table cloths, fresh flowers on every table, silverware, etc...). And then there’s the food... very fresh ingredients, exquisite combination of delicate flavors in a balanced act of love from the chef Raffaella Morelli. From a delicious grilled seafood appetizer, the exquisitely thin layers in the lasagna, to the perfectly cooked fillet, a true lover of fine food will leave this restaurant completely satisfied.
I took my wife to Salvatore's Cucina Italiana for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner and it was everything that I could have expected. I actually found it on YELP and booked my reservation over a month in advance. We arrived and were immediately sat. The reason I chose this restaurant is because of the raving reviews about their Lamb. Ironically, the Valentine's Day menu did NOT include the lamb, so I had to choose something else. I went with the vegetable lasagna, which I learned is only served once a year and on Valentine's Day. It was delicious. There was live music (a Harpist) and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner for two.
The restaurant is a hidden gem in San Diego. I'm always looking for a good Italian restaurant. I think I found one here in downtown San Diego. My wife and I ate here for Valentines day and really enjoyed the food. We didn't get a chance to try the regular menu because they had a special menu for Valentines day. We will be back to try the regular menu but what we had was really good. The service was great. Our waiter was on top of everything.
Excellent service from Alexa. The lasagna was authentic with fresh noodles; best we have had since a visit to Bologna. The ossobuco over saffron risotto was perfect, absolutely falling off the bone. Silverware was refreshed as necessary. Dinner was not rushed. No one was trying to whisk away the plates or asked "are you still working on that." Homemade crème brulee was creamy and not too sweet--perfect and topped with fresh fruit. Wine pours were larger than typical, making the wine by the glass worth the price. Parking in downtown San Diego is always problematic, but in this case the garage was in the same building and our ticket was taken care of by the restaurant (i.e., free parking).
After my wife attended a seminar in downtown San Diego, we took advantage of being near Salvatore's and enjoyed a great Italian dinner. My wife ordered the spicy crab pasta (as she always does) and I had the restaurant's signature item of Lasagna. Both were very enjoyable and satisfying.
My wife and I love trying new restaurants, this place is a gem. We were celebrating my wives birthday and I was surprising her with tickets to a play after dinner so we were on a time schedule. When I made our reservations, I noted that. My wife was seated first as I parked the car. I was greeted by the Manager who informed me, my secret was mum. After I gave her the tickets, I told the waiter that the secret was out. He was releaved because he said he had seen this play and couldn't wait to tell it was a great play. They were all so friendly. Live piano music,..played lightly so it's not overwhelming. Food was fantastic. I will absolutely go back.
We booked the restaurant based on its positive reviews and the restaurant delivered! It was my 50th birthday dinner and the food was scrumptious. (Fish, filet and pasta all delicious-- the creme brule was fantastic and a perfect way to cap off the evening.) We had a great table with a view of the passers-by on the street-- the white tablecloth and fresh pink roses added an elegant and classy touch. We highly recommend Salvatore's--it won't disappoint.
This was very good food and the wine was reasonable. We had a very poor waiter that took away from our experience. All in all we probably wont give it another try due to the availability of restaurants in the area but I hate to see a business suffer because of a bad employee.
A friend suggested that my wife and I dine at Salvatore's Cucina Italiana during a visit to San Diego. The menu contained an excellent and diverse selection of Italian Cuisine. We ordered cocktails, appetizers, entrees and desert. We chose from the wine list a very delicious and reasonably priced Italian wine. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door and provided very help descriptions and advice about the menu selections and the wine list. Rarely have we encountered such a friendly and helpful restaurant staff. Our meal was accompanied by music provided by a fine pianist. We enthusiastically recommend Salvatore's.
The Lasagna was the best. A bit salty this time. The Oso Bucco was ok except for the so-called Risotto, not good. It was like eating dried rice. Not Risotto at all. I sent it back. The gay host did not want to comp the plate. Also, we brought our own wine, the corkage fee was $30 bucks.. outrageous.. this was my “go to” Italian place. Not anymore. This place has gone DOWN HILL. Not going back. Thank you very much.
Wanted to spend a special night with my wife. Looked up romantic Italian listings in San Diego and this was rated very well, and made a reservation. As soon as we walked in we were greeted warm heartedly, and was seated. The wait staff was very attentive and not intrusive, Very professional. They made us feel real welcomed. The food was amazing. We were reading the menus, and the waiter had suggested the specials, which sounded great. So I ordered the fillet special and my wife ordered the halibut. Everything was cooked perfectly. Will recommend this to anyone for a special night out with their special someone.
