Salvatore's Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit. The restaurant is very elegant with a distinctive European flair. The food was very good and the service was outstanding. It is pricey so it's a bit of a splurge but depending on what you are looking for it can be a very good choice.
The food, service, and ambiance was excellent. Our party of 11 truly enjoyed the dishes served and the wait staff was very attentive from the minute we walked in the door. The shrimp scampi was my favorite and had the best marinara sauce every tasted and I truly love Italian food. The wine and appetizers were delicious. Many thanks to the friendly staff at Salvatore for the wonderful dinner and for making our evening in San Diego a memorable event. Hats off to the chef!! We loved it!
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! The owner of the restaurant seemed to be expecting us when we arrived. We were celebrating our anniversary and welcomed us with loving arms. The food was incredible and the whole experience was magical! We were given ‘the best table in the house.’
We cannot wait to come back to San Diego to visit again!
Pluses: allowed me and my wife to dine even though we weren’t able to stop at the hotel to change our clothes (I was in shorts). Quiet with nice atmosphere. Veal la limone was tender, string beans & potatoes very good.
Minuses: sauce of veal was underwhelming with no flavor, wife’s cannelloni was too cheesey. Worst though was that both entrees were overcharged. Menu $36 for veal, $16 (maybe$17) for cannelloni. Billed $38 and $18. Never saw dessert menu, but ordered creme brûlée and tiramisu. Charged $10 for each, but probably should have been less - in any case, neither were worth $10. Bill was hand written. I don’t recall the last time I got a handwritten bill at any restaurant, upscale or otherwise. Lastly, finished entree at 7 pm, but service was so slow that dessert & bill took an additional 40 minutes. Won’t go back, that’s for sure.
Casual Elegance remains the pedigree at this San Diego classic! I was immediately pleased to see that nothing has changed since my more frequent visits in the 90s...old San Diego class with friendly faces, exceptional cuisine, outstanding service, white table cloths, elegant china yet the air of casual sophistication. A true complement to the structure housing this gem, The Meridian...San Diego's only white glove residential tower.
We chose Salvatore's to toast what would have been my Dad's 67th birthday. Dad was a regular at The Paladion across the street (former upscale shopping center in between Horton Plaza), so we thought Salvatore's would be the perfect spot to reminisce.
We were immediately greeted by the host with a handshake & smile, then passed by the iconic harpist en route to our table. It was refreshing to see a mixed crowd of young & old, stylishly dressed yet classic...not trendy, not over the top, not sloppy. Our server was a youthful man with an old soul, embracing his service approach from a bygone era with how pleasant & knowledgeable he was! (So Refreshing!!!) He assured first class treatment from the moment we sat down until the moment we left. What a rare treat in today's world!
The food was DELICIOUS!!! Some of the best Italian fare I've had in a long time. Why did we ever stop coming here? Warm Bread with Olive Oil & Balsamic was immediately brought out while we perused the menu & ordered drinks. If you're going to indulge in bread, this would be the place to do it. The salads were top quality varieties of classics. The Triangoli Di Gamberi Ed Asparagi was INCREDIBLE!!! The house Lasanga was so light and flavorful...indulgence without that heavy feeling. Sadly, we did not leave room for dessert. There's always next time!
Thank you Salvatore's, for your commitment to being one of San Diego's BEST restaurants! Looking forward to coming back again soon!
I took my friend here before our play at the Civic Theatre and we had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. We shared the meatballs and a salad and we both had a pasta dish, a glass of wine and dessert and coffee. We were able to talk and catch up without feeling rushed, but still made it to the play on time.
Last night I and my boyfriend decided to dine here before the baseball game. Italian cuisine is my favorite so I'm usually a little bit picky about the place. I made a reservation at 5pm but we realized we couldn't make it on time. I gave them a call. They easily moved us to 5.30pm and gave us one of the best tables by the window. The person on the phone (the owner) was very polite to me even I called them a hour before restaurant opens. It was the best choice ever. Incredible service, extremely nice owner, romantic white decor, delicious food and sound of harpist playing made our night.
We were visiting here from Cincinnati and were so lucky to find this restaurant. The decor is beautiful. The service was great. The food was really good. I had the best chicken Parmesan that I have had anywhere else. Too bad we don't live in San Diego, I would definitely want to go there again.
We are originals at this restaurant. Were regulars and then moved to East County so we didn't come Downtown. Went back the other night and if anything, its better than ever. David, the GM is wonderful and the food is perfect, classic Italian. Ambiance is incomparably elegant. The place to entertain or for a treat.
After attending a performance of "Kill Local" at The La Jolla Playhouse, we drove to San Diego to celebrate our 26th Anniversary at Salvatore's. This is not only our favorite Italian restaurant, it is our favorite restaurant in San Diego. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the General Manager - David. He is the consummate host and always makes us feel very special when we dine at this restaurant. Also, from enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail at the Bar and then a fantastic dinner service, the entire staff is dedicated to insuring a special dining experience.
