Salute E Vita Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
It was okay, but not outstanding. We were there on Valentine's, an extremely busy night for this restaurant. The staff worked very hard and we were waited on promptly; our food came faster than expected. We did feel rushed, so it was not as relaxed an occasion as it could have been.
The food itself was adequate, but nothing special. Ravioli was tasteless, lamb chops were quite chewy. Maybe the kitchen staff was not up to such a busy night.
I have dined at Salute very often over the years having known previous ownership as well as the current one well. I'm a big supporter of the restaurant normally but was enormously disappointed on this occasion. We had an 8PM reservatioin and admittedly arrived 10-15 minutes late. The reception station was unoccupied but diners remained from earlier seatings. I walked into the bar to find a receptionist and then into the dining rooms. I was not able to locate (her). Finally I took two menus and seated the two of us in one of the dining rooms. Finally a server appeared and asked if we could be helped. I explained to him all of the above. He excused himself and shortly a woman approached and asked if she could be of help. I again explained. She became belligerent and said that because we were late we could not sit in the dinning room but she would seat us in the bar. I explained that we were late due to a late arriving flight at the Oakland airport. I also reminded her that she was not at her station when we arrived. "you were late" was her reply. Finally, Carlos, a long time employee and server intervened and asked where we would like to be seated and seated us at our chosen location. Meanwhile the receptionist sat at a nearby table eating her dinner. I reminded her on the way out of her less than appropriate (lack of) greeting. Her standard response was once again "you were late" and I had to be at another station (eating?). This individual is not doing Salute's reputation well. (the meal was, as always, very good and the ambiance is extraordinary on the bay in the city of Richmond.
We have gone to Salute many times, mostly for special occasions. The homemade pasta and fresh seafood is always delicious. The waterfront view is spectacular for sunsets, and is very romantic. Happy Hour at the bar is a great value. Membe, the owner, is a wonderful person who truly cares about giving back to the community.
We haven't been here for years, when our niece came to town and it was especially warm, we wanted a place on the water. This restaurant is at the Marina and it was lovely - although they needed to wash some of the windows. We ordered a pizza, caesar salad, fish and shrimp - we all turned to each other and said "that was good". The dessert cart is a great feature and the Creme Brulee was good. There aren't that many good Italian restaurants near us and this one is worth another visit.
I get down to Point Richmond every now and then, but every time I do I'm sure to visit Salute E Vita. The food is amazing and the service is perfect. Very attentive without hovering. Timing on service is spot on, we never felt rushed.
Even if we don't get a window table the view is still very nice. The window tables are reserved for tables of 3 or 4, unless you show up late in the evening.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that like Italian food.
Wonderful venue, spectacular view, extremely efficient and friendly staff. Husbands dish, shrimp with pasta with argula and garlic was exquisite. My special of the day was very good, if maybe a little bland. However, I did request the gluten free pasta which was cooked to perfection. I would most definitely go again. I also loved the added touch of fresh flowers everywhere.
Lovely room with a water view. My only complaint was that apparently no one advised our server when we were seated and so we waited quite a long time before he came to our table. He did apologize and the service after that was fine. We all enjoyed the food very much.
Lovely location, good food choices, great service, very comfortable place for getting together with friends for lunch. Easy to get to and no parking hassle. It appears to be an old house (very large) that has been converted - there are a number of small-to-mid-size rooms and it is all nicely decorated. Not too fancy so not necessary to be all dressed up. Great waterfront location and a couple of fireplaces help make it cozy.
Very nice service - easy to sit and chat for a while and not feel rushed. It started out very quiet and became a little louder as more people arrived, but still possible to have a conversation without becoming part of everyone else's conversations.
Definitely will go there again.
Menu is Italian - nice range of choices. Food is well presented and service is quick. Lovely tempting dessert trolley!
Also - really appreciated supporting worthy cause - owner is very much committed to human rights.
We showed up 30 minutes late on a Saturday night and the hostess made me feel as if I was right on time...despite the place being pretty full. The special seafood Crepelle was amazing. Loved it! My son thought the spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs had the best meatballs he'd ever tried. Two members of our party got the Chicken Calzone, and both were disappointed. Service was excellent. Wine list was adequate to good. I would very much recommend this restaurant to others.
We love Saluté E Vita and often recommend it to friends. Our small round table, in the bar area, was perfect for a leisurely lunch for 4. It was quiet enough. The service was really nice, but not overly intrusive. The server was patient with our endless questions and special requests. And the food was really good, although not perfect. My beet ravioli was rich and delicious, but the salad I shared with my brother was skimpy and underdressed. My brother pronounced his pasta "main" as 5-star. But our tiramisu was underwhelming. Even with the few misses, I won't hesitate to return.
Maybe because it was New Year's Eve, but menu was limited and uninspired: basically mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables with your choice of grilled meat or fish, roasted chicken topped with cheese, and a few pastas. The food itself was well prepared, but it was the kind of food that, relative to say Chez Panisse, does not take much skill to prepare.
Actually, I remembered something & learned something that made me come back here and change my rating for service. We were 4 people, but only my wife and I had wine. So when the bill came, we told them to split it in half and then charge us an extra $50 from the total bill. But first they gave us someone else's bill, then they charged us an extra $100 of the total, and today I learned that they charged our friends' credit card twice, once for each amount. I'm still waiting to contact my bank to see if they also charged my credit card too. IMHO, this sort of stupidity only wastes the customer's time and should never happen.
We were very disappointed, as we have come there for several years.
I had dined at this restaurant several times before and had been quite pleased with the food and the service. On the positive side: The ambiance and the view are marvelous. The hosts were very polite, welcoming, pleasant. However, the food and the service were not good this time.
A friend and I had dinner there on Christmas this year (as we had on several previous years) and were very disappointed. The waiter who helped us select a wine didn't listen to us respectfully and was pushy and almost rude. The salad was fine, but the entrees were quite poor. The waiter had to be reminded several times to bring us extra lemon for the fish entree. One of the waitpersons kept trying to take a plate away when we weren't finished. The prawns were too hard and tasteless--maybe undercooked? The crab-filled ravioli with shrimp was mediocre. We were very disappointed to spend so much money for such a dissatisfying meal.
This restaurant has a great view of the marina, and parking is easy. After that, I would never recommend going there on a holiday like Christmas, we were seated near an exterior door and everytime they opened it we got a blast of freezing cold air from the Bay.
The food was just OK, and the service was mediocre at best. Certainly not worth the markup menu for this holiday.
Our family came here for the first time as this was one restaurant that was open for Christmas. The view was beautiful, the service from Monty was excellent, and the food delicious. We each had something different (T-bone steak, swordfish, lamb shanks, risotto, garden salad with pears & walnuts), and we all cleaned our plates. For dessert we had creme brulee and profiterole. We will definitely come back here.
This restaurant is distinguished by the owner's attention to detail, from the wait staff appearance and demeanor to the food preparation and service. The bar is very good and the staff friendly enough to remember a regular's name. The chef quietly prepares excellent meals, and the view of the marina and San Francisco skyline are superb; the overall atmosphere is well worth a visit.
The owner is something of a local celebrity by hosting and supporting fundraising for needy causes, and is well known for giving back to the community.
