We've tried to like this restaurant over the years. Great location and view. Food so-so and pricey. Farewell.
It's so sad that this beloved restaurant is closing on July 6, 2018. I wish I'd known about this wonderful place earlier, but I only read about it's closure in a recent article in the SF Chronicle.
The occasion was very sad. Due to a wicked landlord, this landmark restaurant is quitting business in two days. Those of us who love Membe (the owner), the wonderful ambience and food are deeply saddened.
We will miss Salute for special occasions, as it's closing soon. They were very busy on the last Saturday night of service. This was the prettiest setting of a restaurant I know of in the East Bay. Too bad the greedy landlord has not been able to recognize the amazing contribution this restaurant has made to Richmond and the surrounding community.
Delicious pasta, attentive and pleasant staff.
Best dinner I have had in a Restaurant in a long time and great wait staff
Wonderful staff . The ribeye was fantastic . Can’t wait to see the new place in Brick Yard Cove . So happy Menbe is staying in Richmond !
I went to Salute e Vita for lunch yesterday to help celebrate the birthday of a friend. We had a wonderful time: delicious pastas, enhanced by the little touches for which Salute e Vita is well-known, such as having a waiter offer to grate FRESH Parmesan cheese on our dishes. The salmon, accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and spinach, remains my favorite entrée -- perfectly cooked and presented. And the desert cart was, as always, irresistible!
I shall miss being able to go to Salute at its current location -- but am so glad that it will be reincarnated in a different location!
Lovely restaurant. I’m vwry sad that it’s closing.
We will be sorry to see this great restaurant closed. Greedy developer caused this closure.
Had a great meal and Nembe enjoying a couple bottles of wine with us was the icing on the cake. We will miss it, but looking forward to her next endeavor!
So sad that Salute is closing. The place was packed, service and food were fabulous.
First dish: the clams had sand in them and also in the linguini dish.
Second dish: tagliatelle wasn't what I expected and was more like a cheese macaroni (just glutinous amounts of cheese). I barely ate any and the waiter asked if I wanted my almost entire remaining dish to be boxed up and I said no thank you. IMHO a good waiter or restaurant will ask about your dish ... not this place. They didn't seem to care.
Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, its owner, staff, food. The closing will be a real loss, but we cannot wait to visit the new location.
High end restaurant in a cute part of Richmond. Right on the water. Amazing service and quality.
Food was delicious & place is lovely. I’m baffled as to why the landlord does not support Menbe & Salute. Menbe has been an inspiration showing how one person can make a huge difference in a community. You can be assured we will support her new venture!
As always Salute was a great experience. The food never disappoints. The cocktails are expertly made and the service is always terrific. It’s a wonderful place to go for drinks and appetizers or a nice dinner. I can’t wait to try things at their new location
Went for a fabulous dinner for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. So sad this amazing place is closing. Everyone who works there is lovely, the food is amazing, the location is beautiful. Can't recommend it more highly.
The food was excellent with great selections. We are very saddened that they will be closing and certainly hope they find a new place to reopen very soon.
Excellent personable service and delicious food. We drove 30miles to have lunch there. Great marina view.
This was our last meal at this wonderful restaurant as it is closing on July 6. Very sad as we have eaten here many times over the years.
Love Salutes It is great with wonderful staff, owner and food
Looking forward to dining with them at their new location. Hope it's view is as great .
Great restaurant Hate to see it close. A real loss for the Bay area and Marina Bay
Amazing as always. Shame this place will be closing. Come here and enjoy a city treasure before it’s too late.
This restaurant is beautifully located at the Richmond Yacht Harbor on San Pablo bay. It Is in a 100 year old Cape Cod Victorian right on the water with big picture windows looking out at the marina and the water. Although the restaurant was full, service was exquisite. Menbe, the owner also came around to talk to each table. In addition to the dining rooms, there is a wrap-around porch for outside dining and also a bar are where great craft cocktails are provided. The beefsteak di Manzo (grilled rosemary encrusted 14-oz T-Bone) and the homemade ravioli filled with crabmeat and shrimp were excellent. There is a parking lot.
I'm so sorry that Salute is closing! We live in Marin, and it's been our favorite restaurant to meet friends from the East Bay for dinner! I hope Aklilu opens another wonderful restaurant soon.
Very sad to discover that Salute will be closing its doors this July. Very nice place, great staff and food.
Great neighborhood gem!
My friend and I had a very disappointing luncheon experience at Salute on Friday, June 15, 2018. In the past, the service here has been slow, but this time it was impossible. Our server confirmed our order and then brought the wrong entree to my friend. It took a very long time to get the right entree to our table (it was a salad). By the time my friend was served I had given some of my pasta entree to her while it was still warm and so she would have something to eat. Our server was apologetic, but the extraordinarily long delay was simply unacceptable. The server did comp one dessert for our table. The restaurant did not seem to be overly busy. In the past we have overlooked the slow service because we like Salute's owner, the menu is good, and the location is great. Still, I don't know if we will go back.
I always love dining at Salute; it's the perfect place for meeting friends from the other side of the Bay. The food is always done perfectly, with lots of excellent choices, and the ambiance is lovely. More than that the service is excellent - waitpeople are more conscious, attentive and aware than I've seen in most restaurants. Menbere has really created a wonderful experience for her guests and her community, and I hope she can continue for a long time to come.
We love this restaurant and are so so sad to know that it is closing on July 7. We hope it opens soon in a new location in Richmond. The food is great, the service is terrific and the owner is a city treasure!
The fish ravioli stank of spoiled fish. I could not eat but two. The bread was great. The sound level was too noisy. Poor acoustics. We ate in the bar and the bartender was our waiter. He was too busy making drinks to attend to the guests. The place is delightful, but the food is not consistently good. I will not return.
This is my favorite restaurant, and my now grown children's. I have been living in the Bay Area since 1973, in Berkeley, Albany, Richmond View and San Francisco. Salute e Vita is the best dining experience I have had in all those years with one exception: the early days of Chez Panisse.
Always a treat! So welcoming and delicious. Great views!
Had a great meal - so sorry to learn it is closing in July.
We go there every year after my school’s graduation, held at nearby Craneway Pavilion. Great service, great food, and great management.
LOVE Salute and Membe and her staff. Beyond upset that she has been forced to close by her greedy landlord :(
We are so sorry we didn’t find out about the )ewell sooner ! From the moment we walked into this fabulous place we were awed by its beauty and cozy elegance . The food was delicious and so reasonable! The service was warm and friendly . The highlight of our evening was meeting the owner proprietor Menbe ! She is beautiful amazing soul that has graced the world not only w/ her culinary talents , but w/ her generous heart and philanthropy ! We are so sad the this incredible restaurant is closing in July due to land lord issues.
I normally love this restaurant, buy maybe Membre's landlord issues (she recently lost her lease) have affected the kitchen. The lettuce in the salad was tough and the fried calamari was greasy.
