Great menu for seafood. We had oysters, chilean seabass, shrimp and grits. Everything was fresh and flavorful.
Awesome this place was great from the time we walked in the door till the time we walked out.
My husband and I eat out often, and we have high expectations when the prices are this high. The food was not good enough. The portions were small, and the food was over-salted. The lobster egg rolls were greasy, and not spicy at all. The shrimp and grits were okay. The Grits were really thick and congealed. My husband ordered the sea bass with lump crab meat, and received sea bass in some kind of broth. Jesse, our server, quickly fixed the situation (he's incredible). There was about 2 TB of couscous that came with his meal. The Seabass seemed poached & bland, and the spinach on both plates was bitter & loaded with large chunks of several cloves of raw garlic. The creme brulee was scrumptious! Unfortunately, we won't be back.
We love Saltwater Grill for dinner or lunch. It is right across from the 1894 Opera House and very near the strand. Great food and great location.
As usual Good wine Great food and excellent service. Deserves a 10+
No complaints regarding quality of food or service. This is a casual restaurant but does not lend itself to quiet conversations. Be prepared to shout to be heard.
I was very taken aback by the 'on the pavement' situation of the restaurant having expected something a bit more upmarket based on my wife's description of reviews, and it was for our21st wedding anniversary. It was an 'Ocean Basket' atmosphere. However, the food was excellent and made up for the sparse ambience.
This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants so we went for a family dinner for his birthday! As always, the food was delicious and we had a great time. The Cioppino is absolutely exceptional. I would eat it every day if I could. We always love a trip to the Saltwater Grill.
Food was great. A bit noisy. Service was so-so.
Delicious food, great locale to Opry House! I don't think there was enough staff to handle pre-concert crowd in a timely manner. We arrived at 6:30, show was at 8:00, and we received our dinner at 7:45. The food is wonderful, though, and we would go back!
Two of us went before a concert at The Grand. Food was good and big portions. Good wine. Atmosphere though was too loud. Had to almost scream to talk. Waiter had to fix our bill twice because it wasn’t correct. Recommend reservations for dinner which we had made.
Server missed order of one guest - attempted to place entree that was previously placed and utensil in bowl by another table/guest.
Well-prepared entrees as usual!! Unusually quiet (mid-week), which was nice! The place is not cheap, but good value for the price!!
We had a large group of 16. The food was fantastic and the service great! The molten cake is beyond amazing!
Food was good. Service ok. Noise level was such you couldnt have a normal tone of voice conversation! There were more people standing around drinking speaking way too loud so close to two other couples they left quickly after their meal upset. We left at the same time another couple left and had a conversation with them about their experience there. They had the same opinion we do! Well, we can say we,ve been!
Delicious meal. Had the red snapper with mushroom risotto. My husband red snapper pontchartrain. Fabulous. Will return on our next trip.
Unbelievably RUDE - Never got to the food
My girls and I booked a 9:15 PM reservation through Open Table at Saltwater Grill on Sunday February 18, 2018. We Ubered downtown, and on arrival at the restaurant noticed there were no other customers . The waiter was irratated. I told him we have reservations. He scowled and said, "yeah, well you here. We were about to close. We are waiting on you. We close at 9:00!" I apologized and said we booked through Open Table. He rolled his eyes. The kitchen staff was staring at us through the kitchen service opening. I said, well I guess we will go somewhere else. We are tourists and going by the information provided. The waiter said nothing, but AS WE WERE EXITING THE ENTIRE KITCHEN STAFF AND WAITER CLAPPED! We were mortified and embarrassed!
We went a block a way to a steak and sushi place who were more than happy to serve us even though we didn't have a reservation. The food was great and the service was welcome balm to the infliction from Saltwater Grill.
Nice location and we were given a small room away from the crowd. The waiter did everything to make it a pleasurable evening, however the rest was about average.
Awesome food...fantastic service...BUT-too loud to even talk. Couldn't carry on a conversation or even hear server. Disappointing...
Encourage them to improve acoustics and explore ways to soften sound level!
Disappointed! We are local on the Island and have been going to the Saltwater Grill for over 15 years.
The grouper etouffee was not good. It was overpriced. Small filet that did not taste very well.
We had friends visiting from South Carolina and we had bragged about the Saltwater Grill.
PS: We hope TJ is doing better.
Four friends getting together for first dinner out in long time. I ordered dry grouper atop spinach instead of potatoes/green beans and asked for as little fat as possible. When my plate came, food was covered with a white drizzled sauce of some kind - maybe sour cream? Anyway, didn’t want to make a scene, as we were out with friends, but it probably wasn’t Weight Watchers friendly!
Fantastic restaurant. Nice private room for a group of 13 year olds!
It's my favourite place to go WHEN someone says, I'm paying, where do you want to go. The food is always a winner!
The food was fabulous! Seafood or steak, you can't go wrong. The service was good, but not out of this world. The waiter seemed a bit new and not comfortable in her role, but the food made up for it.
The Lobster egg rolls were amazing! Julie was very attentive and friendly and recommended some terrific choices for entrees. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any one looking for a special evening while in Galveston.
The service was great. The was prepared fine, but a little bland. Very loud atmosphere.
Our server, Julie, did a great job making us comfortable and was totally efficient and professional. Food was delicious.
Saltwater is always a reliable option in downtown Galveston. The new menu seems to have more emphasis on local seafood, which is good.
Very good. One of my favorite places.
Good service, friendly staff, warm environment, great food
My friend had the Redfish Pontchartrain which he said was excellent. I had the crawfish etouffe that I have had many times before at thie restaurant - very sub par - over cooked and thick and tasteless - obviously been in the kettle too long. I can do much better that this at home. Very disappointing. Try to keep it fresh.
Food was ok, ambiance was loud with a big table next to us.
Always delicious! From the bread to the dessert! You can't go wrong when you make a reservation here! I love the Caesar salad and any fish on the menu! Bread pudding was
It was my husbands birthday. Great food and great value with restaurant week menus! We had good service and a great time!
Food is always very good. This was restaurant week and we ordered from their special menu. Very nice entree choices.
As usual the food was wonderful!! We had oysters that were fantastic! Then for our entree we spilt the scallops and shrimp in a cream sauce. Our waitress was nice just not as friendly and fun as we have had in the past
Service was terrific. Wait staff was very attentive but not obtrusive. Each course was delivered at appropriate times and the food was the right temperature.
We went for lunch during restaurant week. The choices for this special menu were great and a good value. The service was great. The place was packed. This is a very noisy restaurant.
We went for Restaurant Week, hoping to have the delicious cuisine for a better price. The meal we ended up choosing was from the regular menu as it was a better value, $26 instead of $34, for almost the same thing as the special. We split crab cakes for an appetizer, I love your crabcakes! Then we both had blackened redfish w/Ponchatrain topping. It was delicious! Our server was attentive and we timed it so there wasnt a crowd or unruly children. I will be back, I always recommend Saltwater Grill to my Airbnb guests and friends, saying the food is delish, the place is rather pricey and usually very noisy!
