Saltus River Grill Ratings and Reviews
Saltus is generally a good restaurant to dine at. Lately our visits just haven't been memorable. Tonight the fish special was somewhat dry. Did not have bernaise sauce which was in the description by our waitress. CrabLouie salad was chopped, what I asked for, rather than as a wedge, and just didn't have a good presentation. Might give saltus a break for a bit. Staff seems to have an attitude lately. I just don't feel the price value relation is there.
Early for happy hour, but accommodated us on the outdoor patio on a beautiful day with a beautiful view. Waiter Nicholas was the best. After our drinks, went inside to a fantastic meal! Oysters were wonderful! Trigger fish special was terrific. Spicy scallops were great too. Will return, of course!
We were very disappointed in the menu. I was e-mailed the menu the evening before dinner. WE were pleased with the selections. Friday night though the menu handed to us was different. I asked if an entree was spicy and was told no. It was and most of entree not eaten.
Overall, very disappointed.
Lovely evening and we were able to sit outside, and the outside dining is beautiful. I have NO idea what the mood was inside. We live in Houston, where there are many choices of restaurants, but we rated our experience at Saltus and top notch. Wonderful server, great food, fun evening!
As part time residents of Beaufort County we visit Saltus River Grill regularly. Always fresh seafood and their sushi rolls are beautifully prepared and delicious. The main menu Scallops are outstanding and both the Steakhouse salad and the Arugula and Beet Salad as well.
One of the top 3 restaurants in Beaufort in my opinion.
We ate here three years ago on our way South for the winter and loved it. The food, the service, the location, everything about it. We’ve not been able to come back through Beaufort for the past two years due to floods and Matthew so loved being back this year the the Grill did not disappoint. It’s so good we dined there both nights we were in town.
We had reserved a table for 6 pm but when we arrived we had to wait 30 minutes. There were many empty tables . this was april 2017. Meal was terrible. we could not eat it. Service was poor. But we came back for another try oct.12, 2017. We had sushi and 4 drinks. It was happy hour. We paid 100 dollars. It was a ripoff. Drinks were very small, mostly ice. Never again. There are other better restaurants on the waterfront, we will go there from now on. Also the DOCKSIDE RESTAURANT is the best all around in Beaufort. They specialize in seafood. It is across the bridge on the left. On the water.
Saltus was recommended to us as the best restaurant in Beaufort. I would say that the best thing about it was the location - right on the city park facing the water. Lovely when it is not too hot out which it wasn't in October. The food was mediocre. And expensive. Not special. Service was ok not great although they were extremely apologetic when we expressed our disappointments. Eleven dollars for an arugula -beet salad with 5 tiny pieces of beets I had to search for and over sugared pecans. A pea soup which had a lovely color but no flavor. A tartar that tasted like ground hamburger. I'm sorry but at those prices I expect a lot more.
We love to sit outdoors and enjoy the fire pit ( in appropriate weather) and the lights of the bridge always. The food is wonderful and the service very professional and friendly. It's a great place for an evening out with family and friends, the best place in Beaufort.
Best meal we've had in a long time! We were in Beaufort for two days and went to Saltus our first night - and we loved it so much, we went back again the next night, something we've never done. I would put Saltus up against the best restaurants in Charleston (and New York, for that matter). We had a shrimp and grits dish both nights that was hands-down the best low-country cuisine we've tasted. On the other end of the richness spectrum, we had simple grilled fish with plain rice and beans one night, creamed corn the other, which were outstanding. We also loved their delicious, creative cocktails (I had a grapefruit old-fashioned, and my husband had a cucumber gin gimlet). Finally, we loved the space and its warm ambiance, and the service was impeccable. We had the same waiter, Nicholas, both nights, and he was friendly and extremely knowledgeable, expertly navigating us through the menu and our meal choices. (He also introduced us to a new sipping bourbon that will become part of our regular line-up.) All and all, a wonderful and memorable experience!
