Saltus River Grill
I’ve dined here many times, it being a favorite restaurant when I visit the Beaufort area for annual beach vacations. But tonight’s dinner beat them all in all respects. I had the local oysters, both fresh and wood grilled, and I’d say they were among the best I ever tasted. The accompanying sauces the chef prepared were creative and perfect enhancements for an already delicious staple. We split a crab Louis salad and the shrimp and grits and I’m
Glad we split because had we not, I would have eaten both of them In their entirety. We finished our meal by splitting the housemade Brown Butter Bourbon ice cream which again did not disappoint and again I would have licked the bowl. A must visit place for a great dining experience in Beaufort.
Arrived early and was told that we could sit but not actually get fed for awhile because the kitchen was too busy. However, our lovely server came immediately and took our order and the food came quickly. It was quite tasty. Not great, but more than good enough.
Service was impeccable. Dinners and apps delicious. Desert was fabulous. Setting was picturesque and breezy.
Saltus was a lively crowded place but was the atmosphere that we like, good food and the service was very polite. Great Texas lady working the bar (we are from Texas ;)
Would highly recommend this restaurant.
The 2 reviews I gave five stars were due to the friendliness of our server and the atmosphere. I paid $18 for an appetizer of 6 oysters that were the size of a pea. You are paying for the atmosphere and the water view. I would suggest driving to Port Royal for dining which is only 10 minutes away.
Saltus can compete with any big city top tier restaurant. Beaufort is fortunate to have her. Thoughtful setups to traditional seafood options, innovative cocktails, good affordable wines by the glass. Love this place.
Family dinner. Everything- drinks, food, server, all perfect.
Always delicious, and the waitstaff brings their ‘A’ game. Only downside is that when they are busy, the noise level rises to a point where it’s uncomfortable and difficult to hear the person sitting across the table.
Service was extremely slow. Food was overpriced for quality
The quality of our food was good but the portions were awful. Paying $32. for four scallops is a real rip plus the sides were extra. A 2x4 inch size of Mahi is really an appetizer not an entree. As far as service is concerned, we were given the dessert menu while eating our entree. Do you think we were rushed? We couldn’t wait to leave!
The food was divine! We made a reservation unknowing that the outside seating is first come first serve. At 6 p.m. on a Saturday there were no available tables outside. We took our table inside which was fine as well, but really wanted that water view. It was difficult selecting a meal because it all looked delicious. Our cocktails were extremely strong but I guess that's a good thing. Haha. We will definitely be back!
What could be better than sitting on the Saltus' patio....a beautiful evening and a fantastic meal. We had a most wonderful evening....thanks.
Always a pleasurable experience ! Fine dining at a waterside table or inside in a 5 star setting. The food is fabulous regardless of where you choose to sit. Complete bar with a large selection of Bourbon and fine wines.
Our waiter was enthusiastic and helpful; the appetizers and entree's were excellent. Noise level a bit high for ease of conversation.
Sat outside and enjoyed the view. Food and wine were enjoyable. Service was good. Saltus is always a good neighborhood experience. - Steve
Anniversary celebration and it was great! The view and sunset was fantastic along with a well trained and gifted waiter. The food was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for all occasions, especially if one desires a memorable experience.
Attentive service, delicious food. Restaurant of choice when in Beaufort.
Saltus is s very good restaurant in Beaufort overlooking the river. Food is always very good.
Service is friendly and professional. Very nice menu with a lowcountry flavor.
Sending off a wonderful Marine Corps couple to their next duty station in Japan, perfect way to celebrate our friendship. Thank you Saltus!
Delicious meal. Crab Louie Salad was divine
Best restaurant in Beaufort. Not cheap, but worth it
Had a great time after the servers decided who was going to wait on us. Had to wait a while. It was great in the beginning with the noise level but toward the end of the meal very loud! Other than that the food was great !
A nice Birthday dinner for my husband !
This was our third dinner here. Great waterfront location. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good food. We enjoyed especially the shrimp and grits. Noisy bar scene inside. There were no available outside tables. Limited parking nearby with lot having few public spaces. We do hope to dine there again on a return to Beaufort.
Another wonderful dinner at Saltus. Food was excellent as was the service by Lacey.
What a nice surprise Saltus River Grill was! We were in twin for just a couple of hours and booked this on Open Table because of the reviews we saw on Trip Advisor. The location is gorgeous. We sat outside under the oaks in the beautiful seating area overlooking the river, bridge and park. Our server, Sarah, was wonderful as was our food. We would definitely recommend this place and hope to dine there again on our next visit to Beaufort.
Always a favorite spot when we come to the Low Country. Excellent bar service while waiting on a table, welcoming hostess who readily accommodated our booth request; superb oysters, soft shell crabs, and other dishes we tried. Lovely walk post an unusually early dinner for us. Wine recommendation matched our own thoughts, and didn’t disappoint. Nice buzz overall. Can’t wait to be back.
We were back in town to visit family, Nick made dinner more than just sitting a eating, he made it an experience. Love coming back to Beaufort and enjoying the vibe of the island again. The food was excellent as always and a great choice of wine too! Ask for for Nick next time you make a reservation!
We let the restaurant know in advance this was an anniversary meal for us, and they went out of their way to make sure it was special. We were given a table with a great view and complimentary flutes of champagne. Great care was given to our meal, our waiter was highly attentive, but unobtrusive, and the food was marvelous. We enjoyed Arugula Salad, Caramelized Sea Scallops, Filet Mignon with Truffle Butter, Potato Puree with Crispy Onions, and Crème Brulee. Everything was perfectly prepared and the presentation beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Went to Saltus for the first time on Easter. Apparently, they ran out of prime rib, so we ended up having chicken, biscuits, grits, desserts and fruit. The food was average. The chicken was quite good, but looking at the price point of $28.00, it was very pricey for what was offered. They also offered peel and eat shrimp, and frankly, it was tasteless and mushy; possibly the worst shrimp we have ever eaten. All and all, we were so looking forward to a special meal here, and were dreadfully disappointed.
Great experience; highly recommend
Very good device ambiance and food
My husband took me there to celebrate my birthday. The soft shell crab and cabbage was amazing! Our waiter was fantastic, and the view of the water was lovely. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. We will defintiley be back!
We chose this restaurant to celebrate wedding anniversary.
Soup was barely luke warm. Entree portions were small & overpriced (3 scallops w/scallop entree). No bread was provided yet, we had bread plates on the table.
Restaurant is beautiful inside-very classy
Restaurant gave us 2 complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary-that was a nice touch!!
Service was excellent.
Probably will not return
Lucky for us it was soft shell crab season! We shared the crab and grits as an appetizer and both were awesome. Salmon belly from the sushi bar was excellent as well. My wife got the dorado for the main course and it was good. Big surprise was my main course as I took a risk and and went for the chicken and dumplings with gnocchi as the dumplings. Absolutely incredible!
The food and portions were perfect. The waiter explained everything as the restaurant was busy and made appropriate suggestions, Great experience.
Wonderful service and delicious food! Great menu.
We ate at the Saltus Grill on our last night in Beaufort, SC. The food was wonderful, especially the wood-fired oysters! My husband also enjoyed a delicious scallop dish and I had the deep fried lobster. I had never had lobster fried and it was very good, although I felt somewhat guilty eating it (the deep frying can't be healthy). The drinks were also very tasty and our server was outstanding. She was very enthusiastic about the food she is serving.
Our first visit. Alexis our waitress was very helpful, made right the occasional thing not quite right, the Owner/Wine Gy dropped by as well. Food was very good, Grilled Scallops - although the Bernaise wasn't Bernaise (Hard to do) and Salmon done perfectly with buerre blanc. Fried potatoes were high quality and fresh, we'll be back.
Food and service were outstanding.
Our meals were of the highest quality, and the service was professional, informed, and friendly.
