Overall very enjoyable experience. Noise level was high (ceilings are 20 ft tall with no sound insulation). Waitress very attentive and courteous. Grilled oysters were a favorite as was the twice baked potatoe with lobster chunks. Will return next time we are in Beaufort.

We had scheduled reservations and immediately got seated. After 5 minutes our serve came by for drink orders. When she returned we mentioned wanting to order oysters, she briefly described them. We had made it pretty clear we were ready to order them but she said she will come right back. 30 minutes went by before we saw her again. We ordered a dozen oysters. Upon her return, she delivered 6 oysters. We told her 12, she came back with 13 “for the inconvenience”.

We both ordered the Delmonico, both Medium rare. Mine was extremely rare, of which I didn’t mind entirely because I enjoy it that way but we had noticed all over the restaurant seals were being returned left and right. When you are paying $40-$50 for a steak you do expect it to be perfect. The cuts were pretty fatty. I won’t claim to be an expert in steak but having eaten some of the best steaks in the state, these were not worth the price at all.

The rest of the evening went relatively well. Not sure if the server was overwhelmed or what but we were there a very long time before we even got bread, etc. With the prices being more “upscale” we did not feel that it was worth it.

On a positive, the atmosphere was great. Very nice indoors and outdoors. Great view. Great smells.

We had very good service. Great table by the window. My meal was good but the 1/2 dozen oyster appetizer was very salty. Overall, a nice dinner out.

Saltus is always a good idea and we've gone the last two Valentine's Day for their pre-coursed dinner menu. 4 courses for $75!

Made a date with my fiancé for Valentine’s Day for 8:45. We got there at 8:30 and were told that it would be a 15 minute wait (as expected) but we were welcome to get a drink at the bar while we waited. Not a whole lot of people at the bar but still took 5 minutes for anyone to come over to take our order. She also offered us a menu and said that they were out of salmon but the other sushi and oysters were great if we were interested. We told her we had a table and would order them there. She said ok and we went on our way to be seated. When we were sat, we were told that the menu items were not available an that only the pre-prepared 4 course menu was available. It was $75 per person which is fine but I didn’t want that much food and for $75, I expected better selections. We ended up finishing our wine and left. Would not recommend for any night they have a predetermined menu. Also, ask if the menu is available other than that the bar. I’ve been here before for everyday dining and never had a problem. But I will never go back for a date now.

Valentines date with the wife. Everything was great. Went with the special Valentines menu.
4 courses with 3-4 items to chose from in each course.
Price was a little pricey but it is Saltus. Upscale and top shelf. Place to go to impress.
Would definitely return for any special occasion.

Forgot to serve the second course; went directly to the main course after salad.

The check was incorrectly tallied...to my favor, but wrong nonetheless. (We corrected the mistake. For the many mistakes of the night, they did "comp" a glass of wine.

The fish (stuffed flounder) was over-cooked and and the crab meat stuffing was blah.

Excellent dining experience with a couple of exceptions.
The steaks were cooked perfectly, but did not arrive very warm. The kitchen uses sous vide technique, which makes for delicious and perfectly cooked steaks. However, the process requires that the steak be served on warm or hot plates. Three at our table commented that the steak was great, but being too cool, made them less satisfactory.
The wine prices were very high, in our opinion, more than 3 times what the normal retail price is, for the wines we knew. We most often see 2 times the retail price, to sometimes 2.5 times. We usually have wine with dinner, but we passed this time.
The crab cake appetizers were the best we and our guests have had...they were perfect.
We shared a dessert among 4 of us and it was excellent as well.
We had a great time and would recommend it to our friends, with the above comments as exceptions.

We had family in town and all seemed very pleased with their entrees, starters, sides and desserts. Our service was exceptional; very personable without being intrusive and intimate knowledge of menu and preparation of dishes. My individual meal was the shrimp and grits which I was unable to eat but a few bites due to excessive salt. I didn't mention it because I'm not certain it just wasn't my sensitivity to salt. It was no big deal and everyone else really enjoyed the food.

As always our go-to special night out restaurant did not disappoint. Oysters, sushi/sashimi and steak tartar were outstanding. Hats off to the pastry chef too. We could tell our server enjoyed waiting on us. Best spot in Beaufort hands down
