Saltus River Grill
Overall an outstanding experience. Great food / drinks, excellent atmosphere, worth the $$
We sat at the bar and were completely ignored. We had to flag someone down every time we needed anything. We didn't' get napkins, spoons etc etc. We had to ask for ask for everything each step of teh way. Our fish came out burnt but we could not tell anyone because we could not flag anyone down and it was taking forever. The food runner would sprint away before you could ask him for anything after delivering food. Not impressed. Really wanted to like it
One of my favorite restaurants in Beaufort! Great atmosphere, great food and great service.
Enjoyed the smaller portions (and price) during restaurant week.
We have eaten 1-4 times a year there since you opened. We live in Ga. we have never had a bad experience nor bad good. You all do an amazing job!!
Atmosphere and food were good. I mentioned on our reservation that my husband and I were celebrating an anniversary thinking we may get a nice table. Table location was poor and the server never mentioned our anniversary. Speaking as a past high end server that should have been mentioned at the greeting. Our server was brief to the point of rude during her interactions with us. Not sure if I would go back.
Food is tasty, plated beautifully & server was fantastic.
Special “Restaurant Week” menu choices were good for the $35 price. Smaller portions appropriate as well. Food was well prepared and tasty. The service was good for a busy Friday night.
However, Saltus overall needs to invest in some repairs/upgrades. Men’s bathroom was in disrepair with a hole punched in the wall and other construction deficiencies were observed, such as the urinal not being centered in its space, and countertops were swollen with water damage. Chairs are wobbly. Booths are worn and lumpy.
Beaufort has very limited choices for upscale dining, and Saltus has always been our favorite. However, it’s time for some updates before shabbiness takes over!
Food was great, though portions were pretty modest because of restaurant week. Service was slow. Ambiance, as always, is great.
We went to Saltus River Grill for Restaurant Week and had the most outstanding meal I've had in years. For $35 the three course offering was exceptional. The chef took it over the top and all four of us agreed.
Was attracted to Saltus River Grill because of restaurant week fixed price menu. Decided to venture past local Bluffton/Hilton Head restaurants. What a great find it was! We ate outside (Jan?) near small fire “pit”.
Only problem was slow inattentive waiter. Eager to return during daylight to really enjoy waterside setting. Nice choices for all three courses..
We went to Saltus and ordered off the Restaurant Week menu. We always enjoy eating at this restaurant, but the miniscule portions for the $35 fixed price were ridiculous. We are not big eaters, but even we were a bit shocked. All the food we ordered was great. We will eat there again, but never for Restaurant Week.
My friends and I just enjoyed dinner during Beaufort's Restaurant Week Jan 2020). The menu was almost identical to the regular dinner menu and the cost for 3 courses was very reasonable. Portions were smaller for each course, which was fortunate as it was a more than adequate amount of food. I had the Crab Bisque, Filet Mignon with Frites, and the Citrus Tart. I also had a Cranberry Mule--delicious and refreshing. Sarah, our Server--Oh my goodness, she's wonderful! She was friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the evening.
I hate that I can’t remember our server’s name, he was fabulous. The shrimp and grits were amazing, my friend has a lot of food restrictions and they graciously managed everything.
We enjoyed a very special evening at Saltus celebrating an 80th birthday of a special friend. It couldn’t have been a more perfect evening. All of our meals were excellent, which is why we continue to come back. The special “doting” over our birthday guest by the server was so sweet & very much appreciated. I have a birthday coming up in March and I can’t think of anyplace else I’d rather go for a celebratory dinner.
This was our first time to dine at Saltus and were happy to get in during Restaurant Week. They offered an extensive menu with smaller portions for Restaurant Week. We were very pleased with everything we ordered. The scallops and crab bisque were excellent! Service was excellent as was the venue. We will be returning soon.
Went for the sushi as an option. Outstanding server. Good food and drink.
Restaurant wasn’t too crowded
Waiter was excellent
Food was awesome
We were at Saltus during Restaurant week but that is not why we went there; it was because of the excellent sushi!! However, after seeing the menu two of ordered from the restaurant week menu and one ordered sushi. The meals were outstanding!!! One of the best steaks we both have had in a long while. We had a wonderful waiter, Justin, who provide great service! You might also catch him behind the Sushi counter - he is a wizard there!!
Took advantage of restaurant week with some friends. We were seated promptly, and the server was there immediately for our drink order. The menu was extensive for restaurant week which made it easy to choose your favorites. The pricing was reasonable, however the portion size was drastically reduced, perhaps a little too much, considering the price. Putting that aside, our dinners were delicious, and the service just right. One of our favorite restaurants in town.
We went there for restaurant week as we had also been recommended by our neighbors as how good it was. The food was excellent and the ambience was wonderful we actually sat outside by the fire. The service is also very good. We were a little disappointed at the restaurant week selections were basically half size portions of what was on the menu. I ordered one of the specials my husband ordered the regular item off the menu. He would not have been full if he had ordered the restaurant week item. We have been at a restaurant weeks where they have not taking anything away from the size of the portions so we were a little surprise. The food was wonderful and everything about the evening otherwise it was fantastic and we will definitely go back and recommend it
Made the reservation for 5 two weeks in advance. An special occasion. Requested a table along the wall with the bench seats. Arrived a few minutes early and was seated middle of floor with one seat protruding into walkway. Preferred and requested seating became open a few minutes after being seated. Not ideal. Wait staff was very good, as experienced in previous visits. Ordered off of regular menu. Thought portions during restaurant week were smaller than previously experienced.
We have dined at Saltus on several occasions and always were very pleased. Our last experience was no different. Service and food outstanding. We were pleasantly greeted when we entered the restaurant. We have recommended Saltus to others and will continue. It is very difficult to maintain high standards but Saltus continues to do it. Looking forward to returning on Valentines Day.
Excellent service . Very good food. Noise level is high
Extraordinary menu, excellent preparation and presentation. Plus the staff is great! You won't be disappointed.
Our meal was fabulous as always!! Highly recommend!
Everything was very good. The food was delicious, wine was perfect for our food and our waiter was very knowledgeable; however, it took over an hour to get our main course. Even with bread and oysters that was a bit to long.
Excellent food with a tasty catch of the day. Also interesting soup of the day, cauliflower with pork belly.
I love that they have some small plate options as well as sushi on the menu.
Service was a little slow considering that it was a quiet Monday night, and the server forgot to bring out a salad that was ordered as an appetizer and ended up being brought after the small plate entrée dish.
Love! Each and every time. Gardner was our server and he was super.
Very good restaurants with a very good ambience. Food was excellent and the service was very attentive. The entrance to the restaurant is from the water side along the pedestrian area not from the street side. They have very good drinks, sushi selection, and desserts. We very much enjoyed our visit. It is a little on the expensive side and may not be suitable for younger children since it is a quiet sophisticated place
The ambiance is rather stark and sterile but the food is good to very good. The special fish (related to grouper) was excellent: crispy fried and served over grits. The salad, soup and dessert were good but not great. The service was very attentive. The cost was somewhat excessive at $80 each with tip.
Went there on a date night. Great service, awesome food. The server paced the meal out and we had a great time. A real gem in downtown Beaufort.
Managed to get a lovely corner table on New Years Eve. Great service, good food, perfect evening!
Excellent food, on the pricy side. House wines are $12.
Wonderful! Had our anniversary dinner at Saltus and we had a great experience. Everything was delicious... fire roasted oysters, blackened Durado, and the filet:)
Looking forward to visiting them again
Great service from Joey and delicious food. Nice wine list — enjoyed a bottle of pinot noir from Oregon.
The dining experience was marred, however, by excessively loud music (country, 1950s, hip hop) blaring from above. The music and its volume don’t match with the ambiance/menu. Servers couldn’t hear customers speak and vice versa.
When we had breakfast at the local B&B we were staying in the next morning the host asked about our dining experience and she was aghast when we noted the music issue....then other guests chimed in on the same issue from their having dinner there too.
Awesome meal, great service and amazing dessert. Will definitely return next time I'm in Beaufort!
Great restaurant once you get past being ignored and/or treated like an unwelcome intruder by the hostess at the front desk. We bought a house at Fripp Island 6 months ago and dined at Saltus the night we closed. Since then we have dined at Saltus 6 more times. A constant has been the rude treatment by whomever is the hostess when you enter the restaurant. We have patiently attempted to ignore the offensive treatment at the hostess stand. We have stood in the lobby while the hostess chats on a personal call, confirms and/ or makes reservations or generally treats those attempting to dine at Saltus as a total inconvenience. The horrible treatment when arriving at Saltus is truly unprecedented. We dined at Saltus tonight and it happened again. The hostess was literally on the phone for 15 minutes making and/or confirming reservations while ignoring a lobby was full of paying customers. Us and the the other couples being ignored by the hostess commented on the fact that the “greeting” when arriving at Saltus is always like this. Those on the phone wishing to make a reservation apparently are alway more important than paying customers who are at Saltus and have a reservation. Once you get past what is equivalent to bad service at a drive thru, Saltus is a good restaurant. However, be prepared to be treated like you presence is unwelcome and unwanted upon arrival. In our experience in this respect, Saltus is 7 for 7.
Great waterfront spot, terrific local fare with excellent staff!
