Saltlik, A Rare Steakhouse - Calgary Ratings and Reviews
Overall the food was quite good and it was a nice atmosphere sitting by the fireplace. The service was fine - nothing made it great or not okay. The sirloin steaks were done just right (medium), and the sides of broccoli and mushrooms were both quite tasty. The peppercorn on the New York cut was a nice added touch of flavour.
We were greeted with a flute of Prosecco and shown quickly to our table. The server was around when we needed her and answered all of our questions with expertise. The food was delicious! The duck fat fries, lobster potatoes and steaks really were fantastic! Would definitely go back!
The food was delicious; however, the service is the reason I will never return!
Had 5 different people serving us, our water and wine took over 20 minutes (ordering and waiting), ordered an appetizer which was cooked and showed up to the table before a server even came to take our dinner order.
Parents visiting from out of town, took them to dinner here.
On a busy Friday night, service was friendly but music volume and overall noise level was high for anyone wearing hearing aids.
Portions are hearty, menu is solid comfort food classics with upscale twists - ahi tuna tartare had a tangy mexi-cali fusion flavour profile with cilantro and avocado. Some items were hard to eat (burger was good but too big to bite into without slicing it first) and desserts are big enough for 4. Apple pie is more like a tarte tatin, about the size of a CD, served in a crispy, flaky pastry crust with buttery flavour and visible layers, earthy spices, oats, praline and a generous scoop of quality vanilla ice cream.
Wine list is decent but not deep, showcasing some BC products.
Design of the interior leans towards semi-rustic, semi-modern, like a pricey mountain retreat. A fireplace crackles, there are many padded leather booths, 2-top and 4-top tables, all solid, no wobble (a pet peeve). The back area features a soaring ceiling with a sculptural chandelier, and the front is a bar with high tables and two flat-screen tvs tuned to sports.
Given the balance of portion size, flavour, ingredient quality and service, the price was eminently reasonable.
Overall, it was just ok. My wife and I both ordered their specialty sirloin. Mine was a nice piece of meat, though over seasoned. My wife’s sirloin was tough and flavorless. French onion soup was just ok. Broccoli was quite good. Wait staff was friendly and helpful.
We had a business dinner at the Saltlik and were absolutely amazed about the food, service and ambience. Not too noisy, made coversation easy. The appetizers (tuna tartar and calamari) were great, and the main courses (BBQ Ribs and steak) really delicious. The service was attentive, but not intrusive, and very friendly. We will definitely go there again.
We found the atmosphere to be comfortably casual, but well appointed. The staff were professional and we got seated right away. I was truly impressed with the wine list, and how well the Wine fit the menu. The steaks were above average from what I have experienced in other places, and the Caesar salad was better than I expected. Oh yeah, don’t forget the apple pie, to die for. We will be back. Thank you.
