Saltillo Mexican Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Excellent restaurant. Personally we our entire table thought all the food was excellent. The queso was the bomb. Steak cooked very well ( could have used just a little more char for me. I have no doubt they would accommodate if requested). The smoke on the grilled veggies was perfect. The pollo en salsa borracha was juicy and flavorful. This will be our go to Mexican restaurant from now on!
Growing up with parents that were raised in Spain as military brats, but grandparents from Mexico it is very tough to eat out 'Mexican Food' AND I LOVED this place. I would bring my parents and god rest their soul(s) my grand parents here too. Our waiter was the acting manager and we also met the owner. Carlos I believe was his name. Kind of a small place and not the gem you would expect just driving by SO DEFINITELY make a reservation to get a seat. We will be back for sure!
Thank you for a great date night - Heather and Darryl
We love going to this authentic Mexican spot in the heart of Bellaire. It's a neighborhood gem, and I can't get enough of their Trio of Tamales. I order it every time. The margaritas on the rocks are also wonderful. Best of all is the chips and salsas they serve before the meal -- you get to sample about 4 different salsas that range from mild to spicy. It's a lot of fun and easy to get a table here. We usually make reservations with Open Table or by calling.
Only our second time there and we were hoping it would be better than a few years back.
Service is terrific but it took almost an hour to get our food. We did not order anything that
should have taken that long. The food was delicious once it arrived. Maybe we should order
a half hour before we get there.
Took my 25 yr old son for his first time there. He loved it so much he wants to bring all his friends
Saltillo has not only has the greatest food and service, but their people the employees the MGR Francisco and Jose the bartender are really great persons and do their best.
Bellaire has a real gem just outside the boundary very nearby.
Highly recommend it.
This was our first visit and we were impressed with both the meat and meatless options. Houston Restaurant Weeks menu was a perfect way to sample a number of dishes and contribute to a good cause. It's on our list to return for well-prepared authentic Mexican fare.
Saltillo Kitchen is a true dining gem. Their food is expertly prepared. I don't think any of the other restaurants in Houston have better steaks. The service is excellent, as the wait staff and the maître d' are very attentive and friendly. Their salsas are delicious, and they have a queso fundido that is spectacularly savory. We have become great fans of their Cabernet-Sangiovese mix from Montefiori vineyards of Baja California. For the price you would be hard pressed to find a better wine. I think all Houstonians should give this place a try; you won't be disappointed.
Husband and I both got the brisket which was advertised as smoked for at least 12 hours...that was such a joke. It had been boiled to make it tender (as evidenced by the mostly water "au jus". Not good by any measure. It came with beans and potatoes. The Yukon Gold potatoes were so sweet that they were inedible and the beans were full of fat bacon pieces. The best thing about this restaurant (besides the service, which is outstanding) is the 4 different salsas and the chips which are served before the meal. They should have stopped bringing out food after we were through with those...
Saltillo Mexican Kitchen feels like authentic Mexican dining. Our server, Jorge, was attentive, friendly and professional. The complimentary four homemade salsas are each delicious and the cocktails are expertly mixed. I loved the spicy 'Devil-rita' and my husband's classic Margarita on the rocks was not sweetened with sweet & sour or other mix. In fact, Saltillo does not even make the very American-style 'frozen margarita.'
We shared the 'Cubitos' appetizer of fried blocks of mild, white cheese, with verde sauce for dipping. I enjoyed my chicken with mole and loved the generous serving of grilled vegetables that came with it. The mexican rice and the charro beans that came with my husband's ribeye were delicious. His steak was a good, high-quality cut and cooked to the right temperature, but the mesquite smoke flavor was a little overbearing (almost like an added flavor), which led us to wonder about the perfect criss-cross of grill marks - were those added on, too? I will withhold my assessment of the steak until I know more about the grilling process at Satillo.
The tres leches was dense and not too sweet, just like the cakes that my Colombian grandmother used to make.
We will be back to Saltillo again, perhaps for their value lunch specials.
I was in the area and saw this restaurant on OpenTable so I thought I'd give it a try. I was so pleasantly surprised that this has become one of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants in Houston. Everything from the chips and salsa (which there are 4 variations of) to the tamales and chicken tortilla soup were amazing. The restaurant also lightly smells of mesquite (not enough to get into your clothes or hair), which was extremely appetizing. The service was also fantastic, as the entire staff managed to pay attention to every detail and provided me with information regarding all menu items I had questions on. The restaurant has some expensive menu items, but they also have inexpensive ones too - so really, the value here is great and just depends on what you make it. I will be back.
Was in Houston for a couple of days and had tried the places the hotel had recommended. Wanted something more local and this had good ratings so tried it. As we drove there we went through a neighborhood and then into the side road with shops. Neighborhood was nice, but not sure about the surroundings. When we went in there was great atmosphere and the staff was welcoming. Then finally the food and drinks. The food was excellent and authentic Northern Mexico. Excellent Excellent
