Unpolished and unwelcoming service. I was meeting a group of friends for dinner but arrived a bit early and decided to have a drink at the bar. There were no open seats available so I ordered a drink and asked one of the staff if I could sit at one of the high tops next to the bar. He said ok so I waited there. The hostess came over with an accusing look and informed me that I could not sit there "because that table is for customers who are ordering food and drink." Pardon me, but why do you assume I am not ordering food? It was happy hour...did you think to perhaps offer a menu instead of asking me to leave? When I explained that there were clearly no seats at the bar and asked where she expected me to have my drink, she coolly replied, "well, you could wait until a space becomes available." So, I should just stand in the middle of the restaurant with no where to sit? This woman must have repeated, "It's our policy...blah blah blah" half a dozen times. It's your policy to ask a customer to vacate a table when she has placed an order, when there are multiple empty tables? Really awful, disgusting behavior. Not sure if I was bizarrely singled out this way or it really is their (bad) policy, but really, they should learn to treat customers with a little more respect.

Monday night must be a slow time, waiter not very attentive. Ordered drinks and never came back to ask if we wanted anything else. Would have ordered a bottle of wine but was never asked. And this was a special birthday for us.

I love this place. The owners are amazing and the staff is great. The menu is diverse so something for everyone. Great atmosphere. Excellent service and food. I will be back!

I visited Saltaire during restaurant week and wanted to try a seafood restaurant. When I saw the selections on the restaurant week dinner menu I was very disappointed. I wish I knew ahead of time before making reservation, I would have by passed this place For appetizers, there weren’t too many appealing choices so I chose the New England clam chowder. My husband chose the mussels fra diavalo. He enjoyed them. For dinner, only 1 seafood selection which was salmon which I chose. My husband chose a “seafood “ bolonese sauce over macaroni. Other entrees were chicken and beef cheeks. My chowder came and it was not what I expected. It had a smoky taste to which I found unpleasant. After our waiter took our order and found we weren’t ordering wine and off the regular menu he was not so attentive any more. He was more attentive to the tables ordering from regular menu. Eventually our dinners arrived and I must say my salmon portion was very small in comparison to a regular order from menu. It was good though. My husband received the bolonese pasta dish and it was very large in size. No seafood in site, just in sauce. Desserts aren’t even worth mentioning. Had to wait a substantial amount of time to get our check. Did not like our dining experience and would not go back there again!

We had dinner at Saltarie about 1.5 years ago--and found the meal was passable/good, but not memorable..recently went back 2 weeks ago on a whim and then again last week because the food and service is now absolutely outstanding!
