Salt Tasting Room in Blood Alley showcases the finest meats, cheese, and condiments in all the land. Our chalk-board menu changes daily: J.N.&Z. smoked beef tenderloin, Mike Vitow's corned beef, Agassiz Farm House Cheddar, Cashel Blue Irish Blue Cheese, Neal's Yard Lincolnshire Poacher, Fireweed Honey, Marcona Almonds and Ambrosia apples may be on. Create a tasting plate and pair with a flight of rare wines, beers or sherries. Dine at our 18ft. communal table deep in the heart of Historic Gastown.

The entrance to Salt Tasting Room is in Blood Alley between Abbott and Carrall streets. There is ample street parking around Blood Alley (on Abbott, Carrall, Cordova or Water Streets). Alternatively, there is a large EasyPark Lot located between Cambie and Carrall Street on Cordova. Note: you must have a commercial permit to park in Blood Alley.

Always a treat! Have been going here for years now. Think our first time was almost 8 or 9 years ago now. We were able to introduce some colleagues to the experience on Salt. Every one of them enjoyed their experience and took away some additional knowledge of food pairing/wine pairing etc. Definitely recommend Salt to anyone looking for a great culinary experience!
I booked a reservation for 4 on open table 2 days in advance. Restaurant called to confirm my reservation on the day of.
When I arrived at the restaurant with my party, I was informed that were seating us at the bar.
In what universe does a restaurant put a party of 4 on bar stools? Seems there were multiple opportunities for the restaurant to communicate this info in advance.
When I asked the host if seating group reservations at the bar was a common practice for their restaurant, he stated that they were very busy and implied that my rediculous seats were my fault for reserving "so late on open table" and not specifying that I did not want to sit at the bar.
We decided to find a table around the corner at Six Acres. I don't think anyone at Salt cared that we left.
This was my first time dining at Salt and it was a great experience! I booked a table for 7 for my best friend's birthday and we all had fun trying different wines and tasting plates. It's a fun concept for those who like charcuteries. I would recommend eating a light meal before as you don't get very full from a tasting plate and tapas. Looking forward to coming back!
Really wanted to like this place however, it didn't quite hit the mark. We ordered the meat/cheese board as well as the wine flights. They chose the pairings for the wine and they were perfect as was the service. The portions were very small though, expected a bit more on the charcuterie board.
Fantastic tasting experience with great wine pairings. Helpful and very friendly service. Really enjoyed our night here. As it is small bites, I would advise you will not feel full after. It is more for a tapas tasting experience. Would highly recommend. Enojoy!
Everything was amazing, the servers are insanely knowledgeable about both the food and wine menus. The only thing was that the service was very slow, otherwise than that everything was beautiful-they were extremely accommodating for my group and set it up beautifully for my birthday. I would definitely go back!
The service was great. I and my friends ordered a wine flight, but not sure what we exactly wanted. We asked our server what we were looking for. All wine flavours that he selected were fantastic! I and my friends all liked the selected wines. If you are wine lovers, this place is the one for you. But if you are hungry, this place is not a place to fill your appetite...
A simple concept done perfectly -- pairings of meats, cheese, condiments and wine. A lot of the menu is locally sourced, with wines and cheese that you can only get in the region. The general manager and staff are fabulous guides, making excellent recommendations for pairings. I haven't had that much fun at a restaurant in a long while!
Highly recommended by a Rocky Mountaineer manager who used to do culinary tours. She was right! You will never accidentally stumble upon this place; you have to seek it out, but it's well worth it. Charcuterie extraordinaire! Our enthusiastic, knowledgeable and adorable sever, Eddie, guided both of us to labeled and paired flights of 3 meats, cheeses, condiments and wines plus a beautiful salad. Sharing made for double the experience.
Been to this restaurant off and on for over 5 years now and never been disappointed by the experience Kama food and the ambience.

This place is incredible for a date or just with a group of friends the way the food is served the fact that you can share everything leads to a leisurely pace and great conversation
Interesting concept for this restaurant. Was very quiet on the mid week evening that I went between 6 and 7pm with only one other table occupied. Staff helpful and friendly. I was a little surprised about how long it took for my tables' order to arrive bearing in mind the restaurant was quiet and that cold cuts and cheeses need little preparation.
Good selection of both local and not local meats and cheeses, good wine and beer selections.
Worth checking out and I hope they are busier normally.
Wonderful concept tapas/tasting room using locally and internationally sourced cheeses and meats. The quality was unsurpassed, the ambiance ubër cool, in this tiny tucked away space. Patient service as the tasting menu was explained and recommendations for wine passed on.
I was very disappointed to be sat in the basement. I had made a resveration to take friends and we where sat alone in the basement, it smelled and felt like a dungeon.
I made the most of it but would have liked on the beautiful night we chose to be sat in the nearly empty upstairs room. I actually wondered if we where sat there because I had used open table app to book.
An interesting concept that is perfect for diners who will share and like to talk about their food. Very knowledgeable wait staff. Portions are satisfyingly small; those with a generous appetite may need salad and dessert. The sherry tasting flight is a must. On my short list for return visits.
Stayed in Vancouver for 6 days and we came to Salt 2 times during our stay. We went to make it for a 3rd time but they were closed by then. They have gluten free options which is hard to find in tasting rooms. The staff are very well versed and are more than happy to assist you in selecting your choices. We let them pick for us based on what we ordered from the meat and cheese selection. I wish there was one in San Diego, we would go every single weekend. It is a hidden gem! Yes, you have to walk down the alley to find it.
Nice place for ambiance and customer service. Great wine list. Tmhad a few cheese and meat platters. Very pricey for what you get. The meat was so thinly sliced you could barely taste it. Cheese taste was also underwhelming. Not from Van so don't know how it compares in taste with other venues.
The restaurant was nearly empty, but we were seated beside the only other two people in the restaurant. The quality and quantity of the food for the price we paid was not good. We last went to Salt about 2 years ago and loved it ... the quality and value has gone down significantly. The tables were too small to enjoy charcuterie and a bottle of wine. Two stars overall is probably more generous than is deserved. We paid our bill, went down the street, and salvaged our date night at another restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive, but we will not be back.
