    My last review here on open table was for La Petite Grocery in NOLA. Maybe, I am spoiled with excellent food. The food at SALT was good. I do appreciate that they are trying to fuse cultural traditions together. Just having the fried chicken at The Pit in Raleigh North Carolina earlier in the week I decided to give their fried chicken a try. It was tasty. Though I must say that it falls flat of the vision of the fusion concept of the region that the restaurant advertises. The batter should have had jalapeño or Serrano. The chicken should have been fried in a cast iron pan after being prepared in a brown paper bag. The place does have good food, luckily I do believe that they have the potential to be exceptional.

    In the past we have had decent experiences at SALT. This visit was disappointing. Our first drink order got deleted somehow so we placed a second one 20 min after arriving. Our appetizer arrived before our drinks. We notified the waiter that our table rocked back and forth. Nothing was done about it so we used our two napkins to place under two of the legs to balance it. Had to ask twice to get our napkins replaced. The two different dishes we ordered were not available so we shared a substitute. The food and drinks were very good and eating on the patio was nice and much quieter than inside. At the time I placed the reservation I noted that this was an anniversary celebration where the form requested if this was a special occasion. Not that we needed acknowledgement, but there was no mention of it. Oh well. We did leave the server a 20% tip as we felt he may have been overwhelmed with how busy it was and he did try to give good service considering everything that went wrong.

    The team approach used by servers resulted in great services. We had no less than 5 or 6 servers help us with cocktails, water, food ordering, etc etc.

    Great service and ambiance, we were greeted promptly and sat at our table within 2 minutes, our server and supporting staff were amazing and full of recommendations. Appetizers were delicious (siracha shrimp, quail knots, pork belly) as well as the sides (mac and cheese, jalapeno mash, and Brussel sprouts) my wife's fish tacos were flavorful but my New York Strip lacked tenderness and flavor. Will definitely return.

    My wife and I have been frequenting Salt for years. In our opinion, Salt is one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in the RGV. We highly recommend Salt to any and all.

    I’ve been to SALT about 20 times since it opened. I even hosted an office party there for 20. So I’ve spent some serious dime there and never been disappointed until my last dining experience. It was absolutely subpar and unacceptable. I have a feeling either the owner has taken his foot off the gas or whoever he has trusted to run the kitchen is slacking. Service and atmosphere were par for the course. The food was the real disappointment. The pork belly appetizer has always been a family favorite. This time, it was literally a 2 inch long piece of over-fried, totally dry pork belly on a piece of lettuce. That’s it. It used to be cubed with other cubed veggie and fruit ingredients. It was terrible. A McDonald’s chicken nugget on a piece of lettuce would have been better. I had the pork shank for dinner. It clearly had been cooked and then left in the fridge for several days. It too was dry, hard, and not anywhere near the standard of previous visits. Usually the meat just falls right off the bone; this time everything was hard as a bone. Maybe I just got unlucky or maybe they’re cutting corners. They certainly aren’t cutting corners on the prices. McAllen has plenty of new and nice restaurants popping up. If SALT intends to be competitive, they’ll need to step their game back up.

    The food was delicious! My fiancé and I came to celebrate our anniversary together and we had a great time. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the current menu and very attentive to our needs. We tried the baked Alaska for dessert and were blown away with how good it was. The only thing I want to bring up was about my seat. There was a nail sticking out and I nicked myself a bit on my hand. I brought it up to our server and she was able to remove the damaged seat ASAP. Other than that it was a great experience!

    Wow, it was FREAKING AMAZING. Heck even our Waiter Eduardo. We couldn't have ask better. Food was @#$! AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. The 16oz NY Strip steak. Was cooked to perfection. No need for any sauces. Just cut n eat. The drinks were WOW something Lavender. The atmosphere was good. Everything was good. Nothing needed change. Thank you. We will definitely be back again.

    Best dining experience in the RGV and then some. The scallops were beyond fabulous! That lime caviar?! I don’t know how, but just wow! Husbands pork chop was out of this world. Everything was beautifully presented with the perfect accompaniments. Incredible, attentive service as well.

    El restaurante está bien ubicado, tiene estacionamiento (aunque es solo para 4 autos), la decoración es agradable, y la comida tiene buen sabor, temperatura y presentación. Del servicio no podemos decir lo mismo, por que el mesero fue poco atento e intolerable. Sugiero darle a los camareros un buen curso de atención al cliente, con esto el lugar estaría excepcional.

    Great experience start to finish. Prompt seating and attention from waitstaff. Knowledgeable server with good recommendations. Meal was excellent. It was an anniversary dinner and we were presented with menus wishing us a Happy Anniversary.

    Great place, with great food and service, but this is the second time I've eaten there, and there are little gnats flying around in my food and in landing in my wine, and we are not eating outside. We are dining indoors. That needs to be addressed for such a nice restaurant.
