SALT Kitchen and Bar Ratings and Reviews
SALT was a lovely setting on a cold Saturday afternoon. We had a reservation for 1:00 and were seated right away. The seating was comfortable, the waitress was attentive, friendly and all of our food arrived together. There was a nice variety of dishes offered and we all liked what we had. We had time to visit and did not feel rushed. We look forward to our next visit, perhaps when we can sit on the beautiful deck and take in the view.
While the restaurant is gorgeous, great spot for special occasion dining, the service for both dinner and breakfast was slow. Wait staff seemed particularly inexperienced given the fact that the price and selection of entrees and brunch indicate "upscale" dining. Fortunately, my husband and I enjoy conversation and architectural ambience.
Comfortable atmosphere, classy staff, relaxing bar, contemporary menu. Went on a busy night but our waitress didn't rush us. Was worried by some negative reviews but took the chance rather than leave this beautiful hotel, so glad we did! Had a five star experience, we'll be back.
The food and service were both good, my only complaint is with Open Table's search. I did a search for brunch in the Portsmouth area, which Salt/Wentworth does offer. However when we arrived at Salt we were told we had booked lunch not brunch. Reserving for brunch requires a call to the restaurant to book directly. This was not clear on the Open Table website. It was a good experience at Salt, but it was not the "special birthday brunch" that we thought we had booked.
Reservations made on Saturday, 12/16/17. Service was extraordinarily slow for all drink orders (beer and wine only were ordered). After requesting a second round for a beer we were informed after a 15 minute wait that it was no longer available. Food service was prompt, however all food was cold or lukewarm AND a signature dish was missing two key ingredients that were clearly outlined on the menu. All items on the wine list were grossly overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area. No value. We will ensure that we continue to provide our business to the locally owned restaurants in the Portsmouth area vs. a large conglomerate.
We have eaten at Salt many times, and we have always been beyond pleased! This visit was no exception. Attentive service, delicious food, and a beautiful setting. And the convenience if you are a hotel guest is wonderful, especially on a very brisk autumn evening. Can’t wait to return!
Found that presentation of our meals was nice, however my Caesar looked good but the dressing had no taste to it and the croutons looked like they came out of box. my main course was the Haddock/ pasta, it looked good but the sauce on the pasta had no real taste to it. My wife got the pork chop and said she could only taste the salty sauce. It was my daughters 18th birthday and it was a big let down, and way over priced for the quality and amount of food that you were served. On a positive note, the server was very nice and did a great job.
Cherry, spot for dinner. Light, airy. Fun to watch cook toss pizza dough.
It was Restaurant week- creamy lobster bisque with chunks lobster & bacon wrapped scallops for our appetizers.
Entree fettucine with crab. Offered in 2 portion sizes. Yummy. Husband had pork chop. Dessert was brown sugared molasses cake-spicy.
Delightful restaurant within Wentworth by the Sea resort. It has been remodeled since our last visit.
Disappointing service and meal. The food is nicely presented but really just average and not worth the price. Service was super slow. One person had dietary restrictions (whole 30 diet) and got a lot of resistance from waitress when asked if she could order the gorgonzola steak salad (from bar menu). Manager finally said yes but it took a lot to get this. Overall, disappointing dining experience in a beautiful setting.
We went here as it was just downstairs from our hotel room. And we are very happy we did.
When first walking in, the bar section was very loud. Luckily, the dining area was much more sedate.
The decor was excellent and creative. A large, round couch is at the middle of the room, making up part of the seating for several separate tables. And lots of glass allowed diners to see the water view.
The food was excellent and unusual. We decided to share several small plates and were happy with all of them. The food and presentation were both excellent. And the service was professional and courteous.
If in this area again, we will certainly come back to Salt.
The service was very slow and the staff was unattentive throughout the meal. One main meal was not presented with the others and there was an almost 10 minute wait for the order. The fish was overcooked for 4 of the entrees. In the past, SALT more than met our expectations, but this meal was far less than expected. We also had an issue when one of our group had a blood sugar issue when we arrived and we asked for an immediate orange juice from multiple staff. They did not follow through for close to 10 minutes, we went to the bar ourselves to get what was needed. We waited over 15 minutes for someone to come to the table for water and drink orders. We will go back, as the location is wonderful. Being an optimist, I hope this was just a very bad one off day. However, I felt the need to apologize to the others that I had invited due to the poor dining experience.
Dinner at the old school Wentworth by the Sea
In house high end dining option and was not disappointed
Usually Hotel restaurants are a tired, sorry lot, not Salt Kitchen and Bar
many options, innovative menu, great local service and they aim to please
really enjoyed the seafood board, lobster bisque, and the scallops appetizer
stayed away from main courses and shared a lot of apps and small plates
worth staying"home" for
ps if you have breakfast at the hotel the tomato stuffed with mascarpone was delicious!
