SALT Kitchen and Bar
Lunch: Monday - Saturday: 11:00am - 2:30pm, Sunday: 12:00pm - 2:30pm; Dinner: Monday - Sunday: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
The food, presentation and menu at SALT are all very good. Unfortunately, the service is lacking. The staff person never once checked to see if our meals were ok, nor did she offer to refill our waters. For the price, I would expect better service. She seemed very disinterested.
Great food the lobster bisque, lobster Diablo and lamb were great. Fairly priced wine list
Great drinks, great food. Lovely staff! A wonderful date night.
The service was outstanding. The wine list exceptional and the food was phenomenal! We have now rated Salt Kitchen and Bar as one of our all time best!!
The food and service were great; however, we were sat at a table with lounge chairs and a regular size table. I’m 5’11” and the table was up to my chest, so this made dining uncomfortable to say the least. If it wasn’t for that I would give it 5 stars. Get rid of the lounge chairs in the dining room.
Aug 3. Dinner lobster fra diavalo was excellent. Fresh well cooked lobster, pasta al denote mildly spicy
Also scollops with linguine was well cooked succulent scollops
Good hotel all around restaurant. Ate 4 meals in 2 plus days. No complaints.
We stayed at the Inn but I went to dinner by myself because my husband had to leave one night earlier than planned. So glad I stayed and went to Salt for dinner. Service was excellent, both the host and the server. Food was fresh and perfectly cooked. Seating was plush and the view amazing. I’m a frequent business traveler in Europe where single diners are normal. Not always the case in the states but I here I was taken care of and made to feel special. That’s what fine dining is all about and what so many restaurants forget.
Our server Doug was the best I've seen in years. Great food, great wine list
It's a beautiful room, food is plentiful and delicious. our server was attentive,a pro for sure. The hotel, restaurant and setting ..fantastic. the place is worth the beautiful ride
We have been here on numerous occasions. Great table but our server got 3 tables all at once. So service was slow. She was very personable. Salt salad was fantastic and the bread too. Pizza once again was extremely disappointing. Very salty and too undercooked in middle although edges were perfectly crisp. We will return but wil never order pizza again
This was not our first visit to Salt Kitchen so we knew what to expect. It did not disappoint. Our server, Doug, was outstanding and we spent a very leisurely evening over cocktails, appetizers and dinner. All the dishes were wonderful and I am now in love with the Pear Ginger Martini.
A lot of new restaurants popping up on the Seacoast, some with great food, but Salt has an elegance that just seems to say...tonight is special.
This was our first time to the SALT Kitchen and Bar. We were celebrating my husbands 60th birthday. Such a beautiful restaurant with excellent staff. I would highly recommend dining here and my husband and I can't wait to go back
Everything was fantastic. I recommend that you save room for dessert. The homemade ice cream that is served with most desserts was unbelievable. What a special place. Plan on walking around the complex that is situated on the oceans. Beautiful gardens. You will not be disappointed.
Salt is one of our favorite restaurants on the Seacoast and is a perfect combination of fine dining and a classic environment. The halibut with homemade pasta is spectacular as are the prosciutto wrapped scallops. The soups are always wonderful and the desserts divine.
The wine list is substantial and fairly priced and the service friendly and non intrusive. Salt is everything we want in fine dining!
Always good food here; very consistent and many, varied choices. I've been here many times for lunch and it's a reliably good choice. However, the restaurant was very crowded this time and our service was extremely slow. Our waitress was friendly but seemed inexperienced so we're hoping this was just a fluke. Service has been good in the past.
Birthday dinner. Very special. Very nice waiter and staff. Attentive, but not hovering. No rush. Lovely view. Food delicious. The lobster bisque amazing. Birthday Girl loved the bone marrow appetizer.
Their lobster bisque is top notch - service was a bit slow given it was a quiet evening there and our server announced that we were her only table. Absolutely delicious meal in a beautiful space.
We were seated at 6:30 PM on July 10th, and my first choice of drinks (Maritime beer--as noted on your website) the waitress informed us was not available. Then our 1st and 2nd choice of chardonnay--the Hill and the meimio--you were also out of. Really, at 6:30??? The food was very good, but then it took us a full 45 minutes to pay for our meals as you were apparently having some issues with your credit card machine--it was being "updated" our waitress informed us.
There are many restaurant choices in the Portsmouth area, and although you are holding yourself out as a premier choice, your performance was less than superior. Salt has many things going for it, but there are also some glaring weaknesses. If Salt management would like to discuss this further, I would be happy to oblige. I can be reached at 603-772-5562, or email "email@example.com". Thank you.
We live in New Castle and visit Salt frequently. We enjoy the ambiance and overall coastal feel as well as the excellent food.
A pleasant surprise since after all it is in a Marriott, however the ambiance was great it certainly fit the nautical theme and one can feel the presence of the old Wentworth Hotel. The food was very good, and the service excellent.....
Great food and great service! The handmade pasta dishes are delicious!!
We have been to Salt once before and the food was good (my wife had the tuna and I had the halibut and we split an appetizer). This time, I can’t say the same. My wife got the tuna and that was still good. I ordered the beef tenderloin medium rare and it came out over cooked and burnt on the outside. I sent it back and ordered the halibut (since I had it before), which also came out crisp on one side and tough as it was over cooked too. We also ordered the olives to start which were basically Queen olives in heated olive oil - not good. I expect this type of olive in a drink, not in an appetizer. Lastly, we ordered a burrata and tomato salad to share which they charged a $2 split fee - appetizers are meant to be shared. Bottom line: we won’t be back. There are nicer restaurants in downtown Portsmouth with better quality food. And if you want something on the property of Wentworth Hotel and Spa, go to Latitudes. The food there is better as are the views and ambiance.
Lovely anniversary dinner for my husband and I! Our waitress was very pleasant, our table was in the perfect spot, and the food was amazing!
We had a great experience celebrating a birthday. Michael the dining room manager went above and beyond to be sure everything was perfect. Thank you.
We love Salt! It’s always dependable and delicious! The staff is friendly and efficient.
Wonderful food, staff and ambiance
Salt is a great special date night out for us. Once a year we splurge and have a great dining experience. Apps were scallops wrapped in prosciutto broiled to perfection dressed on a white plate w tiny salad and strips of honey truffle oil. Dinner was broiled chicken over spinach and on top of a layer of creamy mashed potatoes on a deep masala type wine sauce. Delicious! Desert was over the top Italian special cake w dreamy cooked apples and warm oranges!
The chicken piccata with risotto was superb. Our wait service from Donna was professional and attentive. We recommend the restaurant
Discovered this great spot after shopping In Portsmouth. Had made a reservation for 730 on a Saturday night, but ended up getting there 30 minutes early. The restaurant was able to accommodate us and were were seated in less than 3 minutes. Great waitress who was attentive. Had the marinated mushrooms and lobster bisque followed by lobster fra diavolo half portions for our main course. Everything was exceptional. Great cocktails & wine selection of wines.
First time at Salt, would definitely go back. There is a historic and beautiful feel of the Wentworth, as you pull into the area. Delicious meal, followed by sitting outside on the veranda afterwards. Plesantly surprised this is a Marriott property, and pet friendly establishment with pet friendly outside dining should you need it.
Absolute perfection! Would highly recommend. Service was excellent!!
Hate to say but we’re marina members and have eaten here for many years and booked family events frequently at the hotel. Service this day was adequate but food slipping and bathrooms looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks.
Overall, hotel beginning to show signs it’s time for a reno after some wear and tear although restaurant decor still quite good. Time for management to get back on top of and reinvest in this historic property that is a jewel but starting to tarnish due to apparent neglect.
This restaurant is a gem. We picked it as convenient to host two other couples, not expecting the absolutely amazing food. We had 4 different appetizers, 6 entrees and 5 desserts. Each was exceptional. The service was professional and friendly without being intrusive. It was so perfect that my husband and I went back the next night, just to sit at the bar and have appetizers and desserts—also wonderful.
Always a restaurant for fine dining and a dressier occasion.
Great location, great service and good food. somewhat pricer but worth it.
Food, service, and atmosphere were all exceptional . Would recommend this restaurant for anyone who appreciates these attributes. My entire party thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience that evening.
Have always enjoyed dining at SALT. Went for lunch on a Sunday. Had a waitress we have actually had previously and she was so distracted, not her usual service at all. Forgot things, brought wrong items, etc. The mussels were absolutely amazing, but the pear and "fresh" fig salad with chicken was a big disappointment. Two diners ordered it and on both the chicken was overcooked and the figs must have been toasted or baked, because some were burnt to a crisp. Expected better.
Everything was so inspiring, we went back a second night!
I have been to SALT a few times now and have always been happy. This time though the resurant seemed a bit off.
Two people ordered steak and both were overdone, when paying $45 for a steak we were expecting a bit more. Price for a glass of wine we thought was very high as well...glass of Rose for $15 dollars.
And if sitting in the middle or the restaurant there is a weird echo, as though you are hearing talk radio. I guess its the shape of their ceiling? Very distracting.
My husband and I went here for lunch on his birthday. The dining room is elegant without being stuffy. (The bar is more casual.) The service is very pleasant and efficient. The menu is interesting and varied, and the food is good!
