Have always enjoyed dining at SALT. Went for lunch on a Sunday. Had a waitress we have actually had previously and she was so distracted, not her usual service at all. Forgot things, brought wrong items, etc. The mussels were absolutely amazing, but the pear and "fresh" fig salad with chicken was a big disappointment. Two diners ordered it and on both the chicken was overcooked and the figs must have been toasted or baked, because some were burnt to a crisp. Expected better.
Everything was so inspiring, we went back a second night!
I have been to SALT a few times now and have always been happy. This time though the resurant seemed a bit off.
Two people ordered steak and both were overdone, when paying $45 for a steak we were expecting a bit more. Price for a glass of wine we thought was very high as well...glass of Rose for $15 dollars.
And if sitting in the middle or the restaurant there is a weird echo, as though you are hearing talk radio. I guess its the shape of their ceiling? Very distracting.
My husband and I went here for lunch on his birthday. The dining room is elegant without being stuffy. (The bar is more casual.) The service is very pleasant and efficient. The menu is interesting and varied, and the food is good!
Awesome food , friendly service and great atmosphere
Foood was excellent, service too. Will go back.
Salt is one of our favorite spots on the seacoast. Located in the historic, elegant Wentworth-by-the-Sea, Salt has never disappointed. A creative menu coupled with the graceful ambiance gave us another wonderful escape-mini-vacation. A big shout-out to Courtney, our server! She confessed to being new, but she was a real pro to us.
Noise level was unexpectedly loud, would not have chosen to be seated in that area. Our server was lovely and the food was very good.
From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everything was wonderful. The service was great and the food was exceptional. One of our favorite restaurants for special occasions.
The waitress service was excellent and very personable. We cant afford to eat out at an excellent restaurant much, but the effort and friendliness here prompts me to visit again in the future for another special occasion. The menu is limited, but I understand it changes to suit the season. Its not for the steak and potato person, which I normally am, but with the flatbread pizzas as a fallback, even they are excellent. I must put in a good word for Mr Richie of housekeeping for his personal attention when we arrived.
Loved the setup of all the different types of seating from high top benches, to a couch around the fire, and seats with a partial water view! The butternut squash gnocchi was amazing. My husband got the lobster bisque which was also great! Our main courses were also delicious, but we loved our starter courses the most!
Outstanding service - food and portion size are a bit overpriced though. Also, the dessert menu is a stretch even for the most adventurous (which I pride myself in being). I will say one final thing... our waiter was top 5 "best waiters I've ever had". He made the night memorable for sure.
Best salmon I have ever had! Incredible food, well worth the visit.
Sad to say my husband and I did not have a great experience at Salt. We have been many times in the past and have been very pleased. Unfortunately we feel Salt has forgotten to continue to provide exceptional service when patrons are paying top prices for a dining experience. The menu has not changed (at all) in years but they used to have specials to add a bit of variety. We were told on February 22 that there were no specials! That was only the start...our server was overly perky yet failed to provide good service. My husband spilled an entire beverage on the floor...no one came to help for 5 minutes and then replied..".thats what rugs are for!" Another 10-15 minutes passed until we had to request the beverage be replaced ( which never crossed the servers mind)...we were told she was very busy despite the fact that the restaurant was not full. The final annoyance was when our entre was served. I ordered a half serving of pasta and it was served in what appeared to be a cereal bowl...seriously. The pasta was very good but the presentation was hard to accept...at home I would not serve myself in that manner.
We also observed other patrons having issues, with one couple needing to escalate to the manager.
While the food was good, we will no longer consider Salt when planning a special occasion.
A nice evening with a dear friend ...not only was the food good but the fireplace with a fire was close by and that was nice. Small table felt crowded with the plant on it--would have preferred a single flower vase taking up less room. Salmon and lamb cheeks were very ample and very good. Dessert was expensive and not anything special. Our servicer was pleasant . Lot's of families with children eating dinner and they were very very well behaved...even the 2 babies never made a peep!!!
All in all a nice dining experience. Have been there before and will probably go again.
We went to the Salt for a Valentine's Day dinner. I chose a pre-fix menu and my husband chose a la carte. We both love our food. I also ordered one of the Valentine's cocktails, which was excellent. The only weakness was a dessert but I wasn't interested in that anyway. The bread was good, the risotto I ordered for appetizer was very delicious and halibut I ordered for main course was great too. Service was excellent. We came in 30 min ahead of our reservation time and, although they were very busy, they had a table ready for us in 10 min. And, when I asked for a different table (by the window), they could have said No but they didn't. They set the table quickly. At the end of the dinner, each table got a beautiful rose. Thank you for making our Valentine's so special.
Great food, great service (although upon observation of the other tables we seemed to get lucky with a great waitress so service may vary!). The veal cheeks lacked salt but my tenderloin and our octopus appetizer were both wonderful!
Went for Valentines Day. The food was outstanding!
Valentine’s Day Dinner
The gnocchi are some of the best you will have. For over 10 years I have been seeking out the best gnocchi and have tried hundreds of different gnocchi dishes. This by far is in the top 5 I have ever had. They literally melt in your mouth, good size and not heavy. The sauce is rich but compliments nicely leaving you wanting more!
I am also a passionate mushroom lover and I saw that they had a entree of just mushrooms. I am intrigued. The dish arrived at the table and I was curious on how this will go. Mushroom served 3 ways, there was 1st way sliced up exotic mushroom that tasted meaty and delicious. 2nd way, was mushrooms stuffed in pastry with crispy thin mushrooms on top. Wow this is good. 3rd way was a drinkable mushroom bisque! On top was a sweet foamy sugary broth that quickly brought in the saltiness of the bisque, it was a very cool experience. I need more originality like this on my dinners. Thank you to the chef's on allowing me to enjoy your amazing creation.
The atmosphere is great, classy, and not pretentious. The Salad was fresh and tasty. The steak was tender and cooked just as we asked, and the Fish was equally as good. Our waitress wasn't exactly warm until we broke the ice with her. Great night out.
Lobster roll was outstanding and the fries were prepared to perfection!
Some friends and I recently had lunch at Salt. It was an excellent experience. The dining room is very attractive, comfortable and pleasant. All of the personnel at Salt were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The menu is very varied and would cover every taste. All in all it was a great experience and we all agreed that we looked forward to returning again.
Danielle was our waitress 3 times during our stay. She is wonderful and very attentive
$18 for a small, unremarkable Manhattan and not enough food for a 12 year old...
Excellent, as always. Please try to not run out of gluten-free flatbread crusts, though.
SALT was a lovely setting on a cold Saturday afternoon. We had a reservation for 1:00 and were seated right away. The seating was comfortable, the waitress was attentive, friendly and all of our food arrived together. There was a nice variety of dishes offered and we all liked what we had. We had time to visit and did not feel rushed. We look forward to our next visit, perhaps when we can sit on the beautiful deck and take in the view.
While the restaurant is gorgeous, great spot for special occasion dining, the service for both dinner and breakfast was slow. Wait staff seemed particularly inexperienced given the fact that the price and selection of entrees and brunch indicate "upscale" dining. Fortunately, my husband and I enjoy conversation and architectural ambience.
Comfortable atmosphere, classy staff, relaxing bar, contemporary menu. Went on a busy night but our waitress didn't rush us. Was worried by some negative reviews but took the chance rather than leave this beautiful hotel, so glad we did! Had a five star experience, we'll be back.
Food is very good especially the entrees. If you are staying at The Wentworth by the Sea you have to go. It’s great for a drink and dinner for two.
Worth every dime
The food and service were both good, my only complaint is with Open Table's search. I did a search for brunch in the Portsmouth area, which Salt/Wentworth does offer. However when we arrived at Salt we were told we had booked lunch not brunch. Reserving for brunch requires a call to the restaurant to book directly. This was not clear on the Open Table website. It was a good experience at Salt, but it was not the "special birthday brunch" that we thought we had booked.
Reservations made on Saturday, 12/16/17. Service was extraordinarily slow for all drink orders (beer and wine only were ordered). After requesting a second round for a beer we were informed after a 15 minute wait that it was no longer available. Food service was prompt, however all food was cold or lukewarm AND a signature dish was missing two key ingredients that were clearly outlined on the menu. All items on the wine list were grossly overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area. No value. We will ensure that we continue to provide our business to the locally owned restaurants in the Portsmouth area vs. a large conglomerate.
Lovely dinner en route to Mid-Coast Maine - our first visit to Wentworth By The Sea
We had Chris for a waiter and he was not only professional but very accommodating. He is an asset to your establishment for sure.
We have eaten at Salt many times, and we have always been beyond pleased! This visit was no exception. Attentive service, delicious food, and a beautiful setting. And the convenience if you are a hotel guest is wonderful, especially on a very brisk autumn evening. Can’t wait to return!
The food was tremendous and the service was better than the food. Location is lovely and seating was comfortable. No issues aNd I look forward to going back. We were there for dinner and breakfast. We didn't have any issues.
Found that presentation of our meals was nice, however my Caesar looked good but the dressing had no taste to it and the croutons looked like they came out of box. my main course was the Haddock/ pasta, it looked good but the sauce on the pasta had no real taste to it. My wife got the pork chop and said she could only taste the salty sauce. It was my daughters 18th birthday and it was a big let down, and way over priced for the quality and amount of food that you were served. On a positive note, the server was very nice and did a great job.
Appetizers were great but main course seafood was way overcooked.
