Our dinner was absolutely delicious - the PEI mussels were the best I've ever tasted! I wish the broth had been soup!
Wish we didn’t get seated near loud children. Otherwise food was decent.
Don't think Salt is just a "hotel restaurant" just because it's in a hotel (btw the absolute best hotel within 100 miles of Portsmouth!); this place could hold its own anywhere. Service is over the top as is the food, all in an elegant casual atmosphere. Our party ordered a pasta dish, the swordfish, a ribeye and mussels, all outstanding. Highly recommended!!
I did not like my entree, but my husband really liked his food selections. The restaurant and service was very good.
I don't feel I got the best food for the money I spent.
This was a very nice evening for the three of us. I had the lobster bisque, which was really delicious and had some nice chunks of lobster in it. I also had the salmon, which was delicious and came with a very nice risotto. My mother had the risotto which they modified for her dietary needs. My guest had the gluten free pasta which she very much enjoyed. All-in-all, it was a lovely dining experience and I’d be happy to go again.
Server was inexperienced, did not understand basics of available products at the bar and could not produce a list for choosing. Never considered asking the bartender for help, thus we were told a requested scotch was not avail but it was at the bar. Ordered a Caesar salad, which was scrumptious, but we were only half way through eating it and our dinners arrived. Again poor training of the staff who should not have dropped our meals until we were finished or asked if we were ready. Swordfish was prepared perfectly, unfortunately my Med Rare steak was purple in the middle. The manager had the kitchen cook a new steak (could have just put this one back on the grill), it took 15 minutes to return my meal (my date was done eating by then) , and the steak was fully Well Done in temperature and completely edible. They took the steak off the bill.
This place seems to have such promise but clearly there are serious issues with training in both the front and back of the house
In the past, Salt was on my favorite list to do a special celebration lunch. I was so very disappointed this time. It was my first visit to the restaurant since Covid restrictions. The menu choices were limited. The entrees we had that day were alright, but not special. They offered three desserts on the menu, one of which was not available. The other two we ordered were not very good and not fresh. Equally important to me is the ambience. The once beautiful upholstered chairs are soiled and missing decorative elements. If you’re looking for a special place to celebrate with family or friends this is not the choice I would make. While I understand the restaurant industry is having struggles with staffing at this time it is hard to justify the prices on this menu for value received both in food and ambience.
The dining area is beautifully appointed and has a big comfortable bar. The flatbread pizza we shared was delicious. Romaine salad was average. Our waitress was very nice. My Cosmo did not seem to have any Cointreau or Triple Sec in it. And while Salt is an upscale eatery, charging $16 for a glass of Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc is out of line. I can buy a bottle of this wine for $12 or less at the NH state liquor store. There were no other sauvignon choices.
Outstanding. Best lobster bisque I have EVER had and I order that whenever it’s on a menu. I will be returning as often as I can for that soup.
Beautiful dining room. Appetizers were great. The Swordfish entree was very dry. The creme brûlée was good, but the flourless chocolate cake was bland. Our server Ali and her timing was excellent.
Dined at Salt two nights in a row,
Beautiful Room, Great Service and delicious Food
I love the atmosphere and the Ambiance😋👏
Everything was great, except the food was, no pun intended, extremely over salted. The chef was very heavy-handed with the salt. They do put salt and pepper on the tables, so next time I go I will ask them to not salt it… if at all possible. Cocktails are great. Wine list is great. Servers were really nice.
Ordered English pea Tagliatelle with lobster. Two tiny pieces of lobster on top of gummy pasta with a microwaved sauce. I’ve never paid so much for such a subpar dish. I mentioned to the server that the dish was not good and the attitude was cavalier. No apology, no attempt to make it right. Will not be returning.
Calm and great food.
food and service was excellent. recommended for special occasions.
We had a wonderful 25th anniversary dinner. The staff and food were both amazing at making our night special!
Great setting and comfortable seating. Food delicious! Only downfall was the service, which seems to be exhibiting untrained staff.
Perfect distancing between table which made the dinner enjoyable because you didn’t hear other conversations
Reunion of old friends
We were disappointed in the menu...we wished they offered a sirloin steak or chicken Marsala or porkchops or haddock or seared scallops or shrimp scampi but there was none of it so...we ended up with a delicious but very very pricey burger...we sat outside and waited 15 or 20 minutes for a drink to start with ...then an additional 10 minutes for a straw for my water...idk...when we left the inside main dining room was full and people were smiling and enjoying themselves...I guess inside was the place to be...
Last day of Kindergarten. We all greatly enjoyed our experience. Thanks for making our evening so pleasurable.
We have been here many times, and have never had such a poor experience. We waited half an hour for a server with no luck. I went to the front desk to ask for help and got things moving. We placed drink orders, except they were out of one of their featured wines. We placed our food orders, then waiting another 3/4 of an hour for a cheese plate. once that finally arrived, the next course was there literally 3 minutes later. We cant do both at once, folks! All of the food was excellent as always, but this service! We ordered dessert and waiting another half hour for that to arrive. I asked for the check when dessert arrived, so that was there in time, but did not even receive a pen to sign the slip. The folks next to use had a very similar overall experience. While the food was very good as expected, the service was so poor that we dont know if we will be back. There are many high end choices in this area, without the horrendous service received last night.
We had a delicious meal and the service was excellent. It was a great date night.
Always a pleasant spot for lunch, especially when you can eat outside. Great food and great drinks!
Never disappointed in dining at Salt!! Not only was our food fresh and delicious, the service attentive, but we truly enjoyed the music of our era they had playing at just the right volume
We were meeting friends who had traveled up from RI for a short getaway. 3 of us are hard of hearing so we definitely needed to find a quiet restaurant. Since it was a Wednesday night, SALT was fairly empty and we were given a corner table away from the main seating area. It was perfect! We ordered appetizers, salads(which were divided for 2 people) and some side dishes. Everything was wonderful! Only my husband ordered a full entree(scallops) which was also delicious. We were very happy with the service and attention. When we opted for no dessert, our server brought chocolate truffles to top off the meal. This is a very elegant venue and great for celebrations and special meetings. Food was exceptional
The food and service was so lovely we are returning for Easter brunch. The lobster roll was huge with chunks of claws on a homemade hotdog roll with fries. My husband had half portion of fresh mushroom ravioli with pork belly on the side. Ended with sharing a chocolate budini for dessert that was delish. Nice wines by the glass and cocktails. Our server, Lauren, was great. Loved our lunch so much we booked for Easter brunch which also is my husband's birthday. A very extensive menu. Looking forward to it.
Dinner Was Amazing, Worth going back for a second round.
Food was outstanding. There were 5 of us at dinner and all meals were excellent. The service was equally top shelf. And the place is stunning. Fire in lobby and dimmed lights in dining room were elegant . We will be back!
From the moment we walked into the restaurant we knew this would be a special experience. Beautiful decor, historic ceiling painting, nice scenery out the windows.
Our server, Luiz, was very attentive and informative.
The food was great. My chicken spaghetti dish was delicious. Pasta perfectly cooked, good mix of spinach mushrooms and chicken. My husband had chicken saltim6on mashed potatoes. He loved it!.
Haley made for memorable evening for my daughter and I. Not to be ever forgotten, tremendous meal, service and I will be back.
I wanted to treat my husband to lunch at Salt on his day off. We arrived on time and the restaurant wasn’t busy. We were placed at a tiny table in a dark area without service. We waited 20 minutes and finally just left. Staff didn’t seem to care or notice. There appeared to be no management of the restaurant whatsoever. We live locally and absolutely will not return.
Hailey (our waitress) was wonderful! Great personality. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was romantic. A wonderful night.
Great night. Pleasant staff.
2.5 hours slow
The ambiance was great. The waiter was attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. We had a great time. Highly recommended.
The food and ambiance are generally quite good, but the service always seems to be lacking.
Food was meh. Service was horrible. Seated 15 minutes late. Waitress was not friendly or personable. The entire restaurant was a cluster while we were there. Should’ve just eaten in the bar.
All the food was wonderful! I was a bit disappointed that the menus was not quite the same as the menu on line. The serving of muscles was a good size meal, where as the serving of delicious lobster bisque, was surprisingly small for the price. Service was great!! A great lunch.
