Salt House Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic restaurant with creative and flavorful Japanese fusion food. Went there for a holiday dinner with my family, party of six, and the menu had something for everyone, including a vegetarian. The space is beautiful, with the perfect amount of lighting and a great view into the kitchen. Service was impeccable. In addition to the wonderful, flavorful, thoughtful food, the cocktails were also unique, tasty, and well-balanced. It was a bit on the pricey side but well worth it for the creativity and quality of the cuisine. Would recommend for a date or a special occasion. I am recommending to everyone I can think of!
Still amazingly solid! It had been a while since I was at Salt House, which was a regular for me in its early days. So glad to see they haven't lost a step. I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded, but grateful to be able to get a table on relatively short notice. It's a great space with a very open kitchen, so not super quite; more like lively. Service was knowledgeable and attentive and the food was creative, beautiful, well executed, and tasty! Both salads were exceptional. Salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked. My only gripe might be that the short rib was a little tough and dry, but the dish as a whole was still very successful. Highly recommended!
Typically I love Salt House & their food is consistently good with a great ambiance/interior, but this lunch I was pretty disappointed with the shrimp salad. The lettuce was wilted. :( It would’ve been so much better with a shredded, crispy kale instead of boring iceberg. :-/
This was our third visit to Salt House. Previously we were really impressed with both the quality of the food and service. Unfortunately our third visit didn't reach the high standards of the previous visits. Unfortunately both the ribs and duck were unavailable (we were only told this five minutes after ordering) and the main course arrived whilst we were still eating our starters. Overall the service was below par for a restaurant at this price point. Although our server was friendly, we felt rushed despite arriving at 8.30pm. The soup starter was delicious and the two main courses (hailbut and pork) tasty without being spectacular. The best part of the meal was the home baked bread we ordered with the soup. The sorbet dessert was served in what can only be described as a gravy pot and tasted distinctly average. We may give the Salt House one more go but I don't think we'll be rushing back.
Our server was admirably attentive and the kitchen performed well during a lunch rush hour when the restaurant was full. The noise level at rush periods is high and will be too high for many older adults or those with hearing problems. The restaurant is close to the Salesforce Tower and Transbay Terminal construction zones, as of December 2017, so traffic and parking can be difficult if you are arriving by car.
Amazing food! The small bites were scrumptious, especially the chips with citrus aioli foam. The peppers had the perfect amount of salt. The pork chop was truly the juiciest I have ever had. I don’t usually like duck, but this was cooked to perfection and was so tender.
I cannot wait to go back!
Wonderful food and service - a lovely dining experience and very consistent, with excellent service. The dining room was never fully seated on a Saturday nite - hopefully this just reflects the timing (weekend before thanksgiving) and notable amount of construction in the area that may discourage walk-ins. I have enjoyed this restaurant immensely over the years and hope it sticks around.
Overall we had a great time. It's not too noisy to have a conversation easily. The food was very good. My only complaints are that they took a little long to come take our order for even just drinks. I also thought the portion size for the ravioli was rather small.
Ambiance was great. A party of 5 sat next to us, a this man kept talking so loud, that both the table next to us and I told him to take it down a deciple!! Guy next to us did it twice, but he kept talking like he was deaf!!! Shouting and laughing so loud that you could hear him from the bathroom!!! I was hoping the manager would come and talk to him , but he was not to be found or cared! “ this is our last night” blah blah blah.... we could not even talk and was on the edge of telling him to STFU! Will never go back! I guess only a few squeaky people count!
Also NEVER order the rib eye! So dry! Had to ask for sauce but was still dry mushy from the Souve.
We came for lunch on a Friday. The setting is great with exposed beams and a very high ceiling and great lighting. But unfortunately, looks alone don't qualify for a good restaruant. Although the hostess was very nice and accommodating, our server disappeared after our order and so we were not able to order wine with our meal. He was busy because the restaurant was swamped with patrons who obviously prioritize a wonderful setting over quality of food. Everything we had was flavorless, ironic right? I am not one who uses much salt either. Menu choices also lacking. However, I must say the cocktails were creative and delicious. Salmon tartare no taste, persimmon salad tasted only like lemon juice, mussels lacked luster. Pass the Salt please!
I had a 1 pm reservation on a Friday and they seemed understaffed. We waited to be seated, waited more time for staff who finally took our order and said they were out of the 2 of the 4 salads. The food took a long time to arrive too. Not sure if this is an anomaly, but wasn't a great dining experience!
The food was outstanding. The steak was perfect with a tasty au jus with mushrooms and Brussel sprout. I almost licked the plate. Gene had the pork chops which were also tasty. The only drawback was that there was a large party of 20 coming in and there wasn’t really enough room. We felt we had to hurry to leave. No coffee time.
