Salt House Ratings and Reviews
Overall we had a great time. It's not too noisy to have a conversation easily. The food was very good. My only complaints are that they took a little long to come take our order for even just drinks. I also thought the portion size for the ravioli was rather small.
Ambiance was great. A party of 5 sat next to us, a this man kept talking so loud, that both the table next to us and I told him to take it down a deciple!! Guy next to us did it twice, but he kept talking like he was deaf!!! Shouting and laughing so loud that you could hear him from the bathroom!!! I was hoping the manager would come and talk to him , but he was not to be found or cared! “ this is our last night” blah blah blah.... we could not even talk and was on the edge of telling him to STFU! Will never go back! I guess only a few squeaky people count!
Also NEVER order the rib eye! So dry! Had to ask for sauce but was still dry mushy from the Souve.
We came for lunch on a Friday. The setting is great with exposed beams and a very high ceiling and great lighting. But unfortunately, looks alone don't qualify for a good restaruant. Although the hostess was very nice and accommodating, our server disappeared after our order and so we were not able to order wine with our meal. He was busy because the restaurant was swamped with patrons who obviously prioritize a wonderful setting over quality of food. Everything we had was flavorless, ironic right? I am not one who uses much salt either. Menu choices also lacking. However, I must say the cocktails were creative and delicious. Salmon tartare no taste, persimmon salad tasted only like lemon juice, mussels lacked luster. Pass the Salt please!
I had a 1 pm reservation on a Friday and they seemed understaffed. We waited to be seated, waited more time for staff who finally took our order and said they were out of the 2 of the 4 salads. The food took a long time to arrive too. Not sure if this is an anomaly, but wasn't a great dining experience!
The food was outstanding. The steak was perfect with a tasty au jus with mushrooms and Brussel sprout. I almost licked the plate. Gene had the pork chops which were also tasty. The only drawback was that there was a large party of 20 coming in and there wasn’t really enough room. We felt we had to hurry to leave. No coffee time.
The bathroom is shameful and should be condemned. Construction or not, forcing women to walk past men standing at urinals to reach privacy is outrageous. Calling it a unisex bathroom isn’t accurate. This bathroom, shared with a nightclub, is a Men’s Room that allows women to use it.
Coldest hamburger ever had and was during busy lunchtime. That tells me they rushed it off the grill to turn tables. $15 burgers should be nice and hot - at minimum. My whole party experienced the same. The appetizers are good but stay away from the burger. It's a shame because the buns we're amazing. Fact is I could have went to Carl's Jr. and had a better burger!
Carefully thought out cuisine beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. Food quality is exceeded only by service, attentive but not intrusive. Server rushed to place my duck breast order as the last available serving. Highly recommended SOMA destination. Tends toward noisy when full but quiets nicely later in the evening.
Love the upstairs seating, especially the 2 seats at the corner. The restaurant view is unique and there's a hint of privacy at the corner. Perfect for a date in the future if my husband comes downtown.
Service is always magnificent. The grilled shrimp salad was delicious and the portion was perfect!
Went on a Wednesday at 630 for dinner. Food was wonderful. Their dishes were cooked to perfection and had delicious complex flavors. The service was on par and the waitstaff had a great attention to detail. The only thing was our food came out slow, but the chef gave us a complimentary appetizer to make up for it. The noise level was a little to loud. I basically had to yell at my dinning partner. Overall I would defiantly recommend this restaurant and will be sure to return.
Everything was great! The only problem is the Fish was a bit dry and undercooked for one person and then the other person who ordered a different fish.. it was too soft and had a bit too much salt. Other than that- perhaps just don't get the fish if you have picky eaters!
A fun place to eat. Seasonal menus that change based on chefs interests and available ingredients. Alot of locals seemed to be there, after work. In the financial district. Excellent wine list with many different varietals besides the 'usual'. Service was very attentime and friendly. The fresh baked bread and butter was to die for. Try it with the local goat cheese smeared on top. Wow!
Reservations are a necessity. The good thing is that they will hold a res for 15 minutes past your time, through your entire party has to be present to sit.
Had the chicken sandwich... while it was tasty, it seemed pretty bare with the chicken and a neutral-color slaw stuck between the bun. When compared to everything else on the menu, it was severely lacking color (leafy greens?). With the house fried potato chips (also tasty) on the plate next to it, it looked entirely too bland. Disappointing presentation... But tasty.
