Date night with the wife. Great as always.
The food is very poor.
I know that I’ll always have a good experience at Salt House. The staff, the quality of the food and overall appeal of the place will keep me coming back...as I have since Salt House opened.
Went there for lunch. Food was ok. There was a chicken with pasta dish. Pasta was a little gummy. Ordered some red wine. A full-bodies cab. It was fermented. Yuck. Notified the waitress who brought me another red. Better but a little dry. The noise. THE NOISE!!! It’s so damn loud in this restaurant! Decibels bouncing off of the brick walls. I don’t think I’m going back. The noise gave me anxiety.
I've dined here three times.
The FOOD is unrelentingly incredible. Every element of every course has been remarkable, fresh, and novel. The fish is always beyond excellent, The Aged Ribeye was truly perfect, Duck Liver Mouse was amazing—a discovery unto itself, and the Short Ribs for Two with sweet potato pureé and mushrooms was falling off the bone and drew sighs of gratitude with each bite.
The SERVICE has been solidly friendly, responsive, and prompt from door to check on every occasion.
The NOISE level in this narrow, attractive room of 100% hard, flat surfaces and ceaseless, desperate customer yelling is even more unrelentingly painful. You and your server will be shouting to be heard by the person sitting next to you and your ears may well continue ringing into the next day. If you plan on audible conversation book the earliest time possible, bring ear plugs just to be safe, and don't stay long.
Great space, open kitchen, great location on Mission. Good menu choices, something for everyone.
Difficult parking; service was par; prices above par, food quality par. Wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here again. Had higher expectations. Pork chop was tough.
Food and service was exceptional! Will definitely be back.
Celebrating a birthday. Could not talk at table too loud, could not hear my guest.
the halibut was disappointing, it was extremely bland and lacked flavour, and it was a little on the dry side.
the octopus & lamb pappardelle were excellent, and dessert was absolutely sensational.
we have been coming to salt house for the last 10 years and had never before had a negative food experience.
Not sure. The space and staff are beautiful, but many of the entrees were good, just not great. My Halibut need a bit more sauce and the fish was just slightly overdone. Similar issues for the cod and duck courses. Seems pricey for the final product. Honestly, loved the noise level (very comfortable) and the space is beautiful, chairs get a bit uncomfortable maybe a pad or ares etc.
The evening was perfect! Great waitstaff [she made excellent suggestions;; awesome cocktails; delicious meals! Thank you!
The service and food were excellent. It was great to dined at the Salt House again
Disappointed with dinner here. Short rib was excellent, but other things left a lot to be desired; wine selections were way overpriced. But the biggest disappointment was the grilled little gems salad. Really the only flavor was gas grill. Somebody not paying attention on a recent weeknight.
Nice, clean local. Easy public transportation. Tasty food!
My friend ordered the aged beef to be served medium rare but part of the beef was raw. The service was slow, the main courses were served over half an hour later after our first courses. The restaurant was way too loud..
Outstanding menu selections. Great tastes. Very attentive service and good ambience. Only negative was that the spiced popcorn was stale.
Limited menu but great food. A bit pricey for lunch but good occasionally.
Food was top notch and service equally so. A relatively quite night so noise level was minimal. Comfortable vibe and very attentive service. Had short ribs for 2, excellent!
Cheap service and treatment for such an expensive restaurant. Lunch was good (but not great) and very pricey. Service level was what you’d expect at a diner, not a fine dining establishment. Made a reservation for 1:45. First server pressured us to order immediately threatening if we did not order immediately we could not get lunch before the kitchen closed at 2. Second server kept trying to take our plates away (it was an important business lunch with a VIP and the overall result was the staff kept interrupting us and embarrassing me in front of my guests). If I am going to a high priced restaurant for an important business lunch I expect a much higher level of professionalism. That’s why I picked Salt House. Never again.
very romantic, perfect restaurant for a first date
The salmon was perfectly cooked. I had it twice in one week. The bread is fantastic. The ice tea was even memorable. Very good quality meal.
I visited Salt House for friend birthday celebration. Our server SYLVIE was very attentive and nice. All cuisines are delicious especially Spanish octopus was amazing. I highly recommend Salt House not only for lunch but also for dinner.
The wine, food and service was excellent. Great location close to Muni and BART. I had the best ravioli I had in years.
Great cocktails and food. Inventive and delicious - highly recommend!
Over priced. Very loud. Not much variety on the menu. Portions on the small size.
Great meal for foodies. Short ribs will not soon be forgotten!!
Excellent food and service. The noise level got better as the hour grew later, and by the time we were finished with the meal was quite acceptable.
Delicious food, decent sizes. Very good mix of flavors. A bit pricey.
Overall the ambiance is good, but the food is average.
Every bite was DELICIOUS and each delish was cooked perfectly. Beet salad was wonderfully refreshing, Pork Chop was hearty, Bass was delicately cooked with a crispy skin and tender fish. Lovely combination with the mushrooms, asparagus and perfect mushroom sauce. LOVED every bite! Will be back!
Too many tables! So tight couldn’t get out of my seat to go to bathroom. So noisy
Waitress was amazing
Drinks took forever to get
Too it off, very expensive
Nice venue for business lunch in the City. Modern atmosphere.
Really wonderful evening with a friend from college and her husband. The four of us had the Duck Fat with Sour Batard, the Duck Mouse, Oysters with peppers and pineapple and Duck Fat Potatoes to start, followed by salads or veggies (well, my husband had the ribs, and we started singing the Flintstones song- they were huge!) and then entrees(2 Trout, English Pea Pasta, and Porkchop). After all that, including cocktails and wine, we split one dessert. Plenty of food, great variety, and really happy with the quality. Prices weren't that high, but the bill, given all we had, was large, so the value was just good, not great(a bargain). I read about complaints on the size of portions, but that wasn't at all the case with us. Service was charming and attentive, but not intrusive- we were busy catching up after several years. The only less than great thing was the restrooms they share with a club- really dirty from a busy night's use, but as we didn't use them until the end of the meal, right before we left, there wasn't much they could do about it. They did say they'd jump right on it, so I didn't deduct for that in the rating. I first went there many years ago, and it seemed "very (too?) trendy." Now, it has more the feel of a neighborhood brassiere with excellent food.
All food over cooked but great ambiance and service.
Food was pretty bad. Shoshito peppers were overly salty. Duck was over cooked and the potatoes and Brussel sprouts it came with were inedible. Fish was completely undercooked. Will not be back and will be actively telling friends to not go.
Great restaurant! .................................,
The quality of the food and creativity of the menu was outstanding. This is a case where management gets in the way of a quality restaurant. The serving sizes were too small for people who have alternative diets. Vegetarian options are limited as the salads can't be considered a meal for being to small. My eats very little. She should never leave hungry. The cocktails were all ice. $15 for less than 2 oz is a bad value. It took 20 minutes after water for our server to come back to check for our order. And that was after waiting 10 minutes for the hostess. Going cheap on staff when your menu value is poor is unacceptable. BTW, the HOSTESS is the one that had to take our order. We didn't see our actual server until well into the actual meal. Again, the food was fantastic. Complements to the kitchen! Everything else, however, results in a place I can't recommend.
