SALT - Boulder Ratings and Reviews
From the minute we walked in the door until our dinner plates were cleared, 48 minutes elapsed. We still had a half a bottle of wine left. Our salads were bland, particularly the caesar salads. To top it off, one of us was served the wrong entree, even after a discussion about the dish that was ordered. The special two of us wanted to order was already sold out. However, the entrees were very good.
Nothing special here. Went for our anniversary which I noted in the reservation. They did not acknowledge or ask if there was an occasion. The restaurant was busy and loud. Not the right spot for an anniversary. The food was good but frankly I felt like I was at chili’s instead of a nice restaurant. Too many other options to go back!
I was very disappointed. I went to Open Table specifically to look for a Happy Hour restaurant near a class I had at 6:30. I chose Salt thinking my friend, who was treating us to dinner, wouldn’t have to spend too much. We had a 5 pm reservation and, after being seated, we were told that Happy Hour was only at the bar and at that, it was for drinks only! I was upset, but we stayed. She ordered a vegetarian dinner and it came cold! It was a bitterly cold night ... she should have been told it was not a hot dish. Our server did take it back and brought her the other hot veggie dish that was offered, but it wasn’t very satisfying. The tomato soup was good, and our other friends liked their cioppino and gnocchi.
We enjoyed our meal from start to finish. We were running late for our reservation, and the restaurant held a table for us. (It was not crowded, anyway.) We were greeted by friendly staff when we arrived, and the host accommodated a change of table when we realized we would prefer another area of the restaurant. Our server was prompt and very helpful with selections, also not too intrusive. (This was date night with my wife.) We had plans for after dinner, so we were not able to sample the dessert menu, but I'm sure it would be as good as the rest. We shared the cheese plate, which has excellent options. My wife had the Mary's Chicken, which was both hearty and moist. I had the Beef Two Ways, which was delicious. The beer selection was excellent, with plenty of variety, as was the wine menu. We will definitely return!
We had a party of 6 for dinner on the Friday of Homecoming Weekend. We were seated promptly by a friendly Hostess and our waiter was very attentive. I had the pork chop which was just eh. Seemed like there was a lot of fat compared to meat. The bathroom situation is also limited. This is a historic building, so I’m not sure if that’s a factor, but there are two single restrooms which results in long lines.
My husband and I both ordered roasted chicken. It was delicious and the portions were very generous. The chicken was perfectly cooked and I substituted some excellent polenta because I don't like garlic mashed potatoes (although my husband said the mashies were quite tasty). We both had doggy bags with plenty of leftovers for a second dinner at home. We will definitely go back.
I think Open Table should up the $$ signs to three instead of two.
We drank water, had two entrees, shared fries and a dessert.....$80.
With tip, nearer to $100. Dinner was fine; nothing special. Dessert was awful; pumpkin cake.
Dense, dry and not edible. Also, made a reservation and was seated in the basement.
Not the least bit appealing for dining. Sat directly across from the toilet in a booth.
We had a less than stellar dining experience at Salt.
An off night perhaps - but our service was uneven and included an the wrong glass of wine being served (a rose instead of a white - obvious error). We did not send it back.
And the wrong entree (chicken instead of pork and our server agreed there was an error) which we did send back. I waited 15 minutes for the correct entree while my dining companion ate alone - I feel that Salt should have offered to remake both dishes and serve them together.
I had an absolutely terrible experience at SALT 9/30/17 celebrating a special occasion with my family who were visiting from out of town. Service was horrible, appetizers were served after the main course, two dishes were bland, the beer was flat, and my brother was served a small dried out piece of cake to celebrate his birthday (barely enough as one bite for himself). I was embarrassed. Until that point my husband and I had always enjoyed going to SALT. Now I will never go back and won't recommend it to anyone.
Salt is a go to for us.The food is great and the bar is happening. I recommend it often. The service is always good and this trip was no exception. Our waitperson was excellent. She new the menu, the dishes and specials. She described them with a passion. We were very pleased.
Absolutely love this restaurant, which is why we keep coming back every time we visit Boulder. This visit was no exception. We had the usual excellent service - professional and friendly. Our food was wonderful, as always. The roasted shishito peppers, which we had to start, were delicious, especially with the added touch of bacon and chèvre cheese. We loved the farm salad and the local caprese salad. Both were so fresh. The Mary’s Chicken Confit Risotto and Mary’s Chicken Breast were so juicy and tasty, and the Cioppino was lovely - all fresh seafood. Can’t wait to return!
The food was absolutely fantastic. Local ingredients, well prepared, beautiful presentation and a good portion size. The service, however, was lacking. For an upper end restaurant, I would expect top notch, personable service. While our server was in fact attentive, he was not personable, didn't offer recommendations on the menu, nor were the special entree mentioned. The server just seemed to do the bare minimum to get by, which subsequently knocked my overall review down to four stars. Sad for this caliber of a restaurant.
Maybe a fluke - but we had 3 different servers throughout the course of our meal causing long waits and repeated Q&A, conflicting information about what the kitchen was out of (which was a lot), two mistakes from the kitchen on our orders and one cold meal (all went back and were promptly corrected), and no offer to reduce the check by even one appetizer or drink after we politely mentioned all we'd been though to the third server and the extended length of our meal service...I'll skip it next time.
It is hard to write a review of the food at Salt because going there only a couple of times a year it is like going to a different restaurant each time as the only thing that seems to stay consistent on the menu is the Tom's Tavern Burger. The food is always high quality, the ingredients are fresh and local but the menu varies so widely that it is hard to anticipate what might suit your individual taste. We usually have a big party of people and at each seating some really enjoy their food and some wish that they had tried something different. The food is good but complicated and guessing what might hit the right note for your own desire at that moment is not an easy task. It is fun if you like adventure in your food choices.
