SALT - Boulder Ratings and Reviews
Went for the $29 Restaurant week menu. I was disappointed that the salmon advertised on the website was not on the menu. So I ordered the beef bourg instead and was again disappointed to get a small piece of fat and gristle that had too much of a tomato taste.
We have been to SALT several times prior to this visit. Each time we come we seem to end up here. This time we stopped by for breakfast and were not disappointed. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was fantastic.
My husband had the bbq pork sandwich and would barely share!
Another great meal.
We recently ate there during the First Bite Boulder event. The menu sounded good, the first course of soup and salad was good. The second course offered a steak option with an additional $8 fee - which wasn't stated on the menu and the waiter almost forgot to tell us. The third course of dessert was disappointing all around. The bread pudding was soggy and didn't have much taste the pear was worse and difficult to eat.
From the minute we walked in the door until our dinner plates were cleared, 48 minutes elapsed. We still had a half a bottle of wine left. Our salads were bland, particularly the caesar salads. To top it off, one of us was served the wrong entree, even after a discussion about the dish that was ordered. The special two of us wanted to order was already sold out. However, the entrees were very good.
Nothing special here. Went for our anniversary which I noted in the reservation. They did not acknowledge or ask if there was an occasion. The restaurant was busy and loud. Not the right spot for an anniversary. The food was good but frankly I felt like I was at chili’s instead of a nice restaurant. Too many other options to go back!
I was very disappointed. I went to Open Table specifically to look for a Happy Hour restaurant near a class I had at 6:30. I chose Salt thinking my friend, who was treating us to dinner, wouldn’t have to spend too much. We had a 5 pm reservation and, after being seated, we were told that Happy Hour was only at the bar and at that, it was for drinks only! I was upset, but we stayed. She ordered a vegetarian dinner and it came cold! It was a bitterly cold night ... she should have been told it was not a hot dish. Our server did take it back and brought her the other hot veggie dish that was offered, but it wasn’t very satisfying. The tomato soup was good, and our other friends liked their cioppino and gnocchi.
We enjoyed our meal from start to finish. We were running late for our reservation, and the restaurant held a table for us. (It was not crowded, anyway.) We were greeted by friendly staff when we arrived, and the host accommodated a change of table when we realized we would prefer another area of the restaurant. Our server was prompt and very helpful with selections, also not too intrusive. (This was date night with my wife.) We had plans for after dinner, so we were not able to sample the dessert menu, but I'm sure it would be as good as the rest. We shared the cheese plate, which has excellent options. My wife had the Mary's Chicken, which was both hearty and moist. I had the Beef Two Ways, which was delicious. The beer selection was excellent, with plenty of variety, as was the wine menu. We will definitely return!
We had a party of 6 for dinner on the Friday of Homecoming Weekend. We were seated promptly by a friendly Hostess and our waiter was very attentive. I had the pork chop which was just eh. Seemed like there was a lot of fat compared to meat. The bathroom situation is also limited. This is a historic building, so I’m not sure if that’s a factor, but there are two single restrooms which results in long lines.
My husband and I both ordered roasted chicken. It was delicious and the portions were very generous. The chicken was perfectly cooked and I substituted some excellent polenta because I don't like garlic mashed potatoes (although my husband said the mashies were quite tasty). We both had doggy bags with plenty of leftovers for a second dinner at home. We will definitely go back.
I think Open Table should up the $$ signs to three instead of two.
We drank water, had two entrees, shared fries and a dessert.....$80.
With tip, nearer to $100. Dinner was fine; nothing special. Dessert was awful; pumpkin cake.
Dense, dry and not edible. Also, made a reservation and was seated in the basement.
Not the least bit appealing for dining. Sat directly across from the toilet in a booth.
We had a less than stellar dining experience at Salt.
An off night perhaps - but our service was uneven and included an the wrong glass of wine being served (a rose instead of a white - obvious error). We did not send it back.
And the wrong entree (chicken instead of pork and our server agreed there was an error) which we did send back. I waited 15 minutes for the correct entree while my dining companion ate alone - I feel that Salt should have offered to remake both dishes and serve them together.
