Salt + Charcoal is Williamsburg’s one of a kind Japanese Grill, located in the heart of Williamsburg. Preparation of our signature steaks start with our chef, Tadaaki Ishizaki (formerly at Michelin 3 Star restaurant, Joel Robuchon Tokyo) hand selecting each piece of prime USDA beef at the purveyor. It is then dry aged for 50 days before charcoal-grilling using our unique crank grill. The result is a super tender steak with all of the umami trapped inside. We also have a wide selection of seafood, a raw bar, and Japanese inspired appetizers. Our full bar features original cocktails crafted by award winning mixologists and a variety of Japanese spirits, and wines specially crafted to pair with our food offerings.

The food was great. Appetizers were great, and we really enjoyed the porterhouse (in particular the filet side). My group and I really enjoyed the atmophere.

Decided to try this out for a friend's birthday. It took 30 minutes before our server approached the table, and took over an hour for our food to arrive. The fried chicken was burnt, and the remaining meals were not delivered together. One guest wasn't served until everyone else at the table had finished their meals. Overall, it an unpleasant dining experience.

Unfortunately, the food took almost 40 minutes to come out and when it did, it was pretty terrible. The chicken was overcooked and the sides were completely forgettable.

One of the best experiences I've ever had. The food was amazing. The fresh smoked duck breast is amazing. The 50 day Jyukusei NY skirt strip and crunchy oyster are a must have. The vibe. Service. Amazing. This was my 1st time. But will be my new regular spot.

Love everything about his restaurant. Must admit it’s on the pricey side but food was great. We got the tuna tartar and wagyu tartar and WOW blown away. We also got the NY strip and it was very soft and cooked well. The ambiance of this place was also great and had a lot of cool bars and dessert places for afterwards. Will definitely be back to try the wagyu!!!!

Masahiro and my server did a wonderful job in serving our food and coordinating my husbands b day platter surprise! Service is wonderful with a lot of attention to detail. I felt like they tailored their attention to us rather than just serving food and walking away.

The New York strip was great as well as the Uni shots. Totally recommend for good quality food and intimate setting.

This restaurant has a great vibe and is perfect for a date night or a night out with the girls. Everything on the menu is delicious and came out super fast, given the whole restaurant was full. We had the porterhouse for 2 and they were not shy on portions. It was my boyfriends birthday and a dessert on the House was brought out. The waiter was super attentive. They forget to give us our to-go food, but other than that it was a good experience!

This was the second time dining at Salt + Charcoal since an overall pleasant experience for my birthday dinner back in November last year.

The same issues that I let slide last time still remained and we had the same server who I assume is the main issue.

We have some food allergies and had called prior to make sure that they were flexible and aware how to prepare. The receptionist assured we would be fine and they are accommodating. Back in November we had received food with no modifications and had to sadly send it back although it was beautifully presented. We waited a while again before a new one came out and we thought ok all is good.

Fast forward to two nights ago and we have the same waiter. He was still unsure of almost every ingredient in the dishes and was not confident in any answer often saying "yes" then oh "no" wait.. yes. At this point we made sure that they could prepare what we had last time.

When it came out it was missing several ingredients that are gluten free already... We had to then request that those ingredients that were missing be added back.

Again the food is delicious here and I love the presentation. It is just not a fun experience when your service is unsure what to do and doesn't seek immediate help from the kitchen or other staff.

Allergies are no joke and it should be the responsibility of the staff to be aware of what they can and cannot serve their clients.

Delicious!! It's our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood and there are a lot of awesome places to eat. We always share the kale salad, tuna tartar and the surf and turf. it's perfect every time, they never fail us. The staff and chef are always so kind and accommodating. Love this place! Their cocktails are yummy too and their wine & sake selection is impressive.

Went for New Year's Eve dinner and had a great time. Excellent service and ambiance. Both the crab cake and wagyu tartar appetizers were amazing. The 50 day dry aged NY strip was perfectly cooked, with a nice crust.

appetizers were fun, steak was exceptional. i'd say that $20 for a side of mixed veggies that tasted more like they came from a steam table then a charcoal grill was unfortunate. It's possible that the clientele isnt drinking much wine but i found the glass pour wines to be very pedestrian. let me repeat though: the steak was really worth it!

Good service. The food was good, had the uni filet mignon, which was a bit salty but excellent and rich. We also had the salmon, which was basic and would advised to skip. For appetizers, the wagyu uni wrap is really good.

The service was really bad, and it bummed us out because the food was excellent. Basically, there was no thought as to timing. We got totally bombarded with every plate at once, asking us “where should we put this” because there was legit no room on the table. It was kind of a sh*t show, to be honest.

The off-menu filet mignon with uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe) is other worldly. Just an incredible steak place that adds a level of creativity rarely seen in such restaurants. Absolutely fantastic.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, made the reservation on Open Table. On arrival we were escorted to the basement which was nearly empty, except for a table with a couple and two young kids. The music was middlebrow smooth/fusion jazz turned up so loud we could barely hear each other—wildly inappropriate for the environment. We laughed and laughed as the music got louder and louder. We expected a tasteful, minimal, comfortable environment. The food was very good but we wouldn’t endure the audio assault to eat here again.

We came for Sunday brunch, and the food was good but the options were rather limited and it was a little pricier than I'd typically pay for poke bowls. My husband enjoyed his Filet Mignon sandwich, and other tables who got Salmon or Tuna poke looked appetizing. My Wagyu Sobolokomoko was a bit salty, but still tasty. I look forward to trying this place for dinner, though - the pictures look great.

We made a reservation at Salt + Charcoal for a special occasion. This restaurant came highly recommended by many people.
Unfortunately, when we arrived for our reservation, the restaurant was closed. The door was locked, the chairs were on the table, no one was in the building. We double checked our reservation to ensure we did not make a mistake. I checked the restaurants website to ensure their hours. I even called and the phone went to voicemail. We waited around for about 30 min to see if anyone would open up but had to leave and find another restaurant last minute.
This was a huge disappointment, I hope others dont have to experience.
