About Saloon Restaurant
Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. The Saloon is a Philadelphia neighborhood bar and restaurant with a national reputation. And the parking is FREE!

Saloon Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had not been to Saloon in years. I viewed it as a dinosaur of a place - with dark paneled walls and very formal waiters and hosts dressed in suits. While it does have an old fashioned feel to it, It also represents such a welcome contrast to the largely informal dining now in south Philly. The food was outstanding. There were so many specials- all of which sounded so good that it was very difficult to choose. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and loved the old time South Philly ambiance too. I hope it never changes!
The Saloon never disappoints! Excellent, old world Italian dishes and continental cuisine. Varied menu... something for all tastes. Fresh fish, steaks, pastas and more. I had the Lobster Francaise. Yum.... Yum. Hannah was our server that evening. What a great job!! Many thanks! We'll be back, soon!
It was our first time at Saloon and we picked it based on Open Table ranking. Beautiful woodwork throughout and authentic Philly decor. Delicious Italian food-simple cuisine which I like. Live music in the second floor bar (Sat. night) which was a nice spot to enjoy an after dinner drink. We will be back when looking for a spot in the city.
Kinda disappointed especially that I was so excited to finally go there. First my salad and my dates soup were served with our hot appetizer. (Never serve a course til the first course is done) When we finally ate the clams casino they were cold. My salad was very fresh but hardly any dressing. I asked my waitress to pick an entree for me between 2 different ones. She picked the veal chop n added the raviolis (add'l charge) but did not serve the potatoes that came with the dish. Very disappointed!!
Always searching for great Italian restaurant and this place did not disappoint. Food was delicious and drinks were strong. Will definitely be going back. Only downside was that the parking lot kid left our parking lights on so we had to be jumped when leaving.
Fabulous all the way around! Friendly, prompt, attentive service, food is high-quality Italian fare, and really unique decor. Nosh on fresh bread, olives, and aged Italian cheese while you wait for your first course. (Ps: the fennel salad is out of this world!) Loved the rigatoni with sausage; I ordered the small plate and it was perfect (saved me room for dessert). Apple tart with vanilla gelato.... simple but decadent. They didn't rush me, which seems to be the norm these days. Had a great slow dining experience. Reasonably priced glasses of wine, too. I'll be back.
Our food was great, however, our server it appeared became ill and no one was backing her up. We waited 20 mins For one desert and 30 to get our bill. Oncevrealized the restaurant comped an item or two. Will have to give them another chance at another time.
A restaurant with character, lots of old times, fun things. Wait staff was good but we were often asked twice .. Did we want a drink, did we hear the specials, etc. food was very good, presentation not so great.
Glad we tried it, though! Tiramisu was fantastic!
