About Saloon Restaurant
Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. The Saloon is a Philadelphia neighborhood bar and restaurant with a national reputation. And the parking is FREE!

Saloon Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had a bad meal at Saloon about 15 years ago. Decided to try it again. Have to say they are consistent.
- Water guy had trouble remembering that one of us ordered Pellegrino. 4 times! Must have given our bottle to another table so then tried to fool us by filling the bottle with club soda and passing it off as Pelligrino. Really?
- Wine list lists 2015 vintage. Brings up 2014. That’s all they have. It’s not quite as good vintage. Waiter tries to ridicule us by our preference for wanting the “newer wine” that was on their shockingly limited list.
- Waiter brought the wrong entree. Kept the rest of the four waiting 10 minutes til the 4th entry was served.
- Also brought the wrong appetizer. Waiting, more waiting.
Don’t even need to discuss the overcooked, oversalted food or unfriendly attitude.
This was my first time in many years and I was really looking forward to the meal. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Actually, three people ordered the same dish plus different salads.
The Saloon was cozy, great service and quiet enough to have a conversation.
Actually, the next night we called to make arrangements to pay for our kid’s dinner and Evan was very professional and accommodating .
This was the first visit to Saloon for my wife and I and we will definitely return. The interior is very cool and feels like you are in an old-time movie.
Service was very attentive without being intrusive. Was impressed our waitress Rachel knew the huge amount of specials by heart without a cheat seat.
I had chicken with hot& sweet peppers. Very tasty dish with just the right amount of heat. My wife got the eggplant. She said it was good but not great. Eggplant was done right but tomato sauce was too sweet for her taste. We both got Saloon salads which had avery tasty dressing and the right amount of fontana cheese. One minor complaint was at $13 it was a bit expensive. We felt both of our entrees were priced fair.
The place has extensive wine and mixed drink offerings. We got Santi Pinot Grigio which was perfect for our meals.
For dessert we shared a mixed fruit cobbler with vanilla gelato. Excellent finish to an excellent meal.
Will be back!
It is an outstanding neighborhood restaurant. One with a long history of consistently high marks for excellent service and food. The only downside is even with reservations there is typically a significant wait. However it is highly worth the wait. Bon-appetit!!
My second time at this Bella Vista institution. Food is superb. Service fast and discrete. Ambiance, well, it's The Saloon. Everyone is having a good time, the walls and ceiling are hung with all kinds of old signs, clocks, an old coffee mill, etc. Lots of stained glass lights, carved wood beams, gorgeous bar. You can happily spend a couple of hours here. It's a little pricy but worth it.
Antipasto special was great albeit a bit pricy. Braciole was fantastic. Porterhouse steak was perfectly cooked and good size. Place is cozy with neat old fashioned style decor. Bit loud since its small n the bar is very close to the dining area. Overall a good date spot for foodies.
A truly exceptional experience! Our meals were cooked to perfection, our service was beyond excellent, and our daughter surprised us arriving from out of town 30 minutes after we were seated, and they seated her without hesitation, and our server never missed a beat! Salads were fresh and crisp. The scallops in cognac cream sauce was lick the dish outstanding. My filet, with a beautiful salt and pepper crust, was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were flavorful and fluffy. The braciole made with filet ,with ravioli, was tender, tasty and delicious. Our deserts of tiramisu, napoleon with raspberry cream and pumpkin cheesecake were all a delicious end to our meal. Wonderful evening!
The Saloon surpasted all expectations. The service was exceptional our waiter, Anthony went above and beyond. We highly recommend requesting him. We started with the spinach salad wrapped in prosciutto and then had the Saloon's famous veal chop with crab meat and the Mediterranean Sea Bass. The veal chop was perfectly prepared and served with a genoiurus portion jumbo lump crab meat which was the ideal complement for the chop. The Sea Bass was was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. If you're looking for fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere the saloon is for you. We Are The BarReview and the Saloon gets 5 stars!
My wife and I both had steaks and a small appetizer. The steak had a sauce that was right on!! Very good. The food and drinks were spot on!! Desert was also good!
The atmosphere was very good! We were recommended the restaurant by a coworker and I will make sure to thank him. The service couldn’t have been better. Our waitress rattled off the specials by memory. The list of specials was long and detailed, she knew it by heart! What a great evening We will be back for sure!!
Been here too many times to count. Overall okay but has "slipped" a little on the last few years. I would suggest that they need to change the menu and specials. They have been the same for a long period. Also they need to get someone that knows how to make a Caesar's salad Their is not good at all. Prices are very high. Charged me $5.00 additional for anchovies on my salad?
Really! Took 2 1/2 hours for the meal start to finish. Very long wait between starters and main course.
Consistent outstanding service and Italian food with a Philly flare. Tomato/crab, stuffed poblano pepper appetizers were fresh and delicious. Salmon, Tuna both well prepared. Broccoli Rabe and mashed potatoe sides were generous portions, light and tasty. We love the local folks who manage and work here, and the interesting artwork throughout.
