Salinas Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Salinas on many occasions but this is the first time since they have reconfigured the bar and front. While I like the original version the new version does not change your experience - although we will avoid the semicircular banques by the bar as they are not comfortable for us
Continues with fantastic food that is wonderful to the taste and creative. Same for the wines both by the glass and the bottle
I had a reservation for 4 people at 6:45 PM on Friday 12/1/17. I was the first of my party of 4 to arrive, and I was on time at 6:45 PM. Two other people in my party arrived by 7 PM, and the last one was running late due to her job as a surgery fellow and she was coming directly from work. We asked to be seated but was told that everyone had to be present for us to be seated, and that after the 15 min grace period, our reservation would automatically be canceled.
Eventually, the hostess did seat the 3 of us around 7 PM but instructed that we must order right away and that we had a strict out time by 8:30 PM. We finished our meal but chose to go elsewhere for dessert because we ran out of time by 8:30 PM.
Food is ok, service is extremely poor. Everyone in my party works in healthcare, and if we treated patients like this, we would all be fired. The food is not that great enough to make up for the lack of service.
Great place, but the automatic cancellation of my OpenTable reservation because I failed to respond to a phone call from the restaurant (unknown number to me) takes it off the list of places I'd book through OpenTable, and - therefore - probably means I won't go there again. Reducing the friction/increasing the ease of my reservations is the whole point of the OpenTable service. Salina's policy defeats the purpose. Perfectly OK as NYC has plenty of other options.
Great lighting and wonderful service was my first impression. The sangria was arguably the best I've had. A good simple menu for a romantic night out eating light on tapas but we were surprisingly satisfied by the end of the night which was a first for a tapas night(a good thing). Maybe the menu is too simple because we both left feeling like there was nothing left on it that we simply HAD to go back for. I would go back for the sangria although it was pricy. My date loved it and she was very happy.
What was once a warm , welcoming and beautiful restaurant made for special occasions has become one driven by the reservation book at the front door where attitude presents like a century at the gate. Woe to the guest who arrives early or late. One minute can ruin an entire evening. You’re banished to the cramped front bar room to cue up should they choose to honor your reservation and if so, you’ll have a restriction imposed on the amount of time you can occupy the table. . If it’s a celebration you’re planning I’d stay far away from this place.
I lieu of beautiful flowers, personable service and excellent cuisine, mediocrity now takes center stage. The front staff are full of themselves, wheeling their power with a rigidity, insensitivity and arrogance I found “distasteful. This should be a no reservation place with seating first come, first serve.
Congratulations on creating such a enchanting sexy space filled with knowledgeable yet humble and genuine caring team of employees. Food unique, creative, and beautifully executed.
I own restaurant on the west coast and know how hard this effort is to make it look seamless. Bravo!
A lovely dining room, good music that somehow did not drown out the conversation, friendly service and delicious food made it an all around excellent dining experience. The white anchovy with brandade toasts were a perfect balance…enjoyed the pulpo, fideos special and even a simple eggplant dish with pistachios was deliciously flavorful. Next time I'll go with a carnivorous friend and sample some of the jambon and chorizo dishes offered. Sangria was unusually good and not too sweet. Only complaint: no wines under $70-plus, which is an unfortunate limitation. After dining there, did some reading and saw that I knew the chef from the old Meigas days. Liked his cooking then and like it now.
I was a little disappointed by the food. There wasn't one dish that I really loved, and several that I actually didn't like much. Lovely ambience, slow but friendly service, great cocktails, but I wouldn't go back when there are so many great choices in the area.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food but wait staff should learn from Danny Meyer! The customer should be treated like royalty. They came to remove plates several times while we were eating! The waiter didn't seem to want to answer questions about the menu. And when we offered feedback to owner, he was similarly ungracious. Too bad.
