What Insiders Are Saying
With all the Spanish food in this ‘hood it’s a big statement to make, but there is no better restaurant to get your Español on than Salinas.
I had two very underwhelming plates—the popcorn pulpo and the asparagus on special both were served cold and tasted like they had been sitting around for awhile. The lack of elegance in plating the dishes was disappointing as was the tiny size of the asparagus. Service was attentive tho and the flowers were amazing....we had some very good and expensive wine which was a treat. Work more on the core product of food which is the mainstay in your biz and I’ll come back
SALINAS is an overpriced, nuevo Spanish restaurant w precious plates on a limited menu, some of which were tasty, but too small and pretty to be recognizable in Spain: One small dish (appetizer), 'croquetas,' (croquets) were grape-size vs finger-size; One 'arroz' (rice dish) was, in fact, three mini-burgers composed of rice w diced duck meat, and when I asked for a fourth one because we were four, our waiter told me what 'the upcharge' would be ... classy; One dessert, 'migas' (bread crumbs traditionally served w olive oil or chocolate as peasant food) was, in fact, chips of french macaroons w ice cream garnished w edible flowers. Got the picture? The receptionist told us our table needed to turn over in two hours when we arrived. The attractive DR on Salinas' website is beyond the small room w a view of housing projects where we were seated. Our waiter's style was not out of place in this pretentious, little restaurant, but the character he played would work better on a bigger stage.
This is an incredible place for its ambiance alone. The retractable roof, stunning decor and beautiful flowers were a huge wow factor. Although the food was good, I was not blown away. We definitely left on the hungry side. If you are looking for a unique place, this is it! Maybe just have a snack first :)
Authentic Spanish restaurant. Delicious seafood and patatas bravas.
Our waiter was Garret, he was amazing!!! They gave us a great table, the food was amazing and waitstaff was very accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. The cocktails are amazing, definitely try one. Even though it was small plates we were still full when we left- the paella is delicious. It was our 1st anniversary and they brought us two glasses of cava after we paid the bill. The atmosphere was very romantic with fresh roses everywhere! Thank you so much for a special evening!
This restaurant was beyond our expectations. Excellent Spain-inspired food, efficient and pleasant service, staff with a smile. We had dinner in the airy and light section with the roof that slides open. We loved it.
Elegant spot with attentive but unobtrusive service. Spanish specialties, plenty of seafood and carne choices. Long list of appetizers/tapas. Inventive cocktails, not very extensive wine list but adequate range of styles and prices. Has an outdoor dining area too, but we didn't go there.
They can can be very busy and they try to prevent no-shows, reserve early.
Wow! First, the food was spectacular, the Mastery of doing great food simply. Everything we tried was perfectly prepared, layered in flavors and well, exceptional. Now I haven’t had much Spanish food so I don’t have much to compare but my wife spent time in Spain, frequented several famous restaurants and she said this was the best she ever tasted. Before we left we made a solid commitment to come back next time we are in nyc. Thanks chef for a memorable and satisfying experience.
We had a great time and the food was amazing.
Great for a date when you don’t want to fill up on a big meal.
Our server was very informative and gracious.
The space is really pretty. Beautiful outdoor dining in the back yard.
Absolutely amazing! Creative takes on classic tapas dishes, in a cozy, romantic setting. Definitely request the garden seating -- the candles, flowers, and open air make it seem like you are far away from NYC!
Expensive but worth the money. Creative and refreshing! Great staff and great menus !
The food & ambiance was nice, but a bit pricey. The wine list was pretty expensive as well.
Salinas is a very romantic place. I took my husband there for his birthday. The food was fantastic, I have no words to describe how much I loved it in general. The garden room is super nice. The service was really good and you can notice it's a very exclusive place.
The Chef is from the basque country in Spain and when I was told that I already knew it was going to be good, cause a lot of the best chefs in the world are from there and the food in that region is amazing.
The combinations of flavors on his plates are just incredible.
We've read the menu before going to the restaurant, we have no problem paying $43 for a plate of rice with shrimps, but it has nothing to do with the pictures shown. The portions are extremely small, maybe suitable for a 7 year old girl, the flavor was excellent but considering how cheap rice is, it makes no sense to leave a restaurant hungry after spending $200. The chick peas were just boiled then fried, it had nothing in it, less than a cup of chick peas, again the portions are super small. One of the appetizers had a long list of ingredients that translated into three pieces of crunchy bread with tiny bits of the listed ingredients... very disappointed.
Bartender poured the drinks like he was trying to pinch pennies and put the bare minimum in my Manhattan. When the glass ended up less than half full after he stirred and strained it, instead of adding more alcohol he added syrup and ice and stirred it again. Gimme a break. Unfortunately, this is what I remember most about the evening.
Salinas is my not-so-secret weapon in Chelsea when bringing clients and friends out for dinner in the area. Dates too, when I was single.
Drinks are on point, food is beyond excellent and the music/vibe will make you want to stay for a few night caps.
Excellent! The food, service and atmosphere were wonderful.
Originally reserved for 4pp through open table however a fifth guest wanted to join us. I called the restaurant to increase the party and drama started. We were told that the tasting menu was mandatory and I was required to fill out what seemed to be an application with cc number, security code etc to secure our reservation. Further more I was asked to put $150 down when I called the restaurant. When we arrived we were almost cohersed into buying a more expensive menu bc of dietary restrictions. I am glad we did not bc the $65 tasting was plenty. The wine we selected was delicious as was the food but I will think long and hard before bringing a party larger than 4 pp if I go back.
Great place! Fantastic food
Everything was good. Food, ambience, service and more. Except it’s little pricey, I highly recommend to try, especially paella and sangria.
Beautiful atmosphere. I recommend the world to dine here
Amazing food. Go for the specials.
The servers asked a lot such as “are you done? Even thought we ‘re EATing dishes.
It was borrowing us.
Great place to take my wife to for first anniversary. A bit pricy with drinks but food was good and the people here are awesome.
The taste of food, the presentation and the ambiance are perfect!
Fantastic and authentic restaurant. Best sangria I’ve had in NYC, but I’d wager their cocktails on the whole are top-notch. Pricey, but worth it. Note: their tables are definitely not all equally nice, try and book early. Also, smell the fresh flowers at your table flown in from Ecuador! Staff throughout is extremely attentive and has an eye for detail.
Everything were perfect
Excellent food and wine. Music was similar to what one would hear on virgin Atlantic as you’re waiting to take off. Soothing bit strange for a restaurant. Great Spanish restaurant so a little Spanish music might be a good idea.
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The staff members were kind and accommodating. Our server was very knowledgeable and catered to our every need. The food was bomb! The Hake and Pollo were delicious. Make sure you try the Bravas (potatoes)! I’d definitely recommend. It’s an intimate setting with affordable prices ($$). I’d return.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in NYC. If I had to (nit)pick any one thing I'd say that they didn't pay attention to my note when I made the reservation that said it was my girlfriend's bday. Didn't really matter in the long run, as they treated everyone like it was their bday. We both appreciated the experience and will be back !
The service was very slow, notwithstanding a 6pm reservation. It took 50 minutes for the main course to come out, and when it was served, even the wait staff acknowledged that it was raw (not rare; raw). By the time they brought out re-cooked food, we were to be late for our theater tickets, so could not even have the main course.
Everything was perfect. Octopus with black garlic sauce was TOO delicious. The design, the fire place, the flowers , the service was superb.
Totally amazing experience on all fronts - I would go there again - go for a special occasion too!
One of the best restaurants in the city!
The food was amazing and the service great; everyone was very friendly. The ambiance is beautiful, especially if you sit in the "garden" open area.
I think the quality/price ratio is excellent. Definitely recommend it and will come back.
Salinas was top notch all around. The garden room was beautiful, and quiet for a pre show dinner. The ambience was everything I could hope for and more. Service from front door staff, to servers and waitstaff were all attentive and A+. I would highly recommend
Absolutely outstanding in every respect.
Pretty place and one of the best Spanish restaurants in NYC. Some nice plays on very authentic dishes. Food, wine, cocktails, service are great. Specialty ingredients and seafood items are beautiful. Really pretty place, a little too expensive. Like 25% more than it should be. Leaves a bit of a bad taste.. Portions small for big time prices like $50-130 for entrees. Otherwise excellent and special.
Very good food! Expensive! But very good food!
Perfect restaurant to take your better half. We loved the ambience, the flowers, and the food. We ordered croquetas, patatas, Brazilian fish, octopus, and chocolate pustachio ice cream. Also one of the best sangria's I have had in a long time!!! Excellent experience.
