The ambiance is great in this restaurant. It is actually a very small restaurant with about 10 tables. The food was extremely overpriced and the quality was below average. This is a ocean side restaurant and they can’t cook fish as well as the other local lower priced restaurants. You want to take someone to this restaurant to impress them but they find out that the food is of poor quality and they are disappointed as are you. The service was great but it didn’t make up for the high price and low quality.

Wow. Where do I begin? When we arrived for our 8PM reservation, we were told by the hostess that our table was being cleaned off and we would be seated in 10-15 minutes. At 8:30, I went to find a hostess to figure out why we had not been seated yet. They forgot about us. We could have sat there the entire night and nobody would have seated us.

Adam, the General Manager, was very apologetic and seated us in the adjoining restaurant. He gave us two appetizers and we waited to go back to our preferred table and original reservation.

We finally were seated in Salacia at 9PM. We had a great meal. The servers were impeccable.

When it was time go, I was told that my filet mignon and sides (leftovers) would be upfront at the hostess stand. I asked the hostess, coincidentally, the one that forgot us, how she knew which bag was ours. "We write it on there." What was written on the bag was "26," which I guess corresponds to the table we were at.

Shockingly (read: not shocking at all) we opened our boxes at home and low and behold, it wasn't our food. I called back during Salacia's business hours to speak to someone about this, and nobody was available to take my call. I left a voicemail requesting a call back, but I haven't gotten one.

TL; DR version:

We waited too long, and paid $150 for food that we didn't get to finish eating later. French press coffee and cheese bread = amazeballs.

It’s become a tradition. I’ve brought my wife to Salacia for her birthday for the last four years. We live in DC and come to VB to be with family for the holidays and Salacia is a perfect getaway from the Christmas madness. See you next year!

The wait staff were friendly and attentive to detail but fairly slow. The food was excellent and our steaks were cooked as ordered. We were there on a Sunday night. It wasn’t crowded. Perhaps they were short staffed.

The food at this restaurant is of the highest quality. We sat outside, November 9, with a great view of the ocean with fresh air and no disturbing noise. A very pleasant evening.
The only negative was an over priced filet Oscar.

Had reservation, but had to wait 15-20 minutes to get a table which was frustrating as I had made special arrangements as it was our Anniversary. Nobody even acknowledged the fact that it was our Anniversary even though I made that very plain at time of reservation & an in-person visit to the manager to ensure all went well. Was not what I expected from a 4 star dining experience.

Service was ok, it seemed like our waiter had too many tables. We didn’t order our main course meal until 2 hours after we got there. We didn’t finish eating until 12:30. We didn’t think we were going to be there that long. Mind you once we got our food we eat it immediately, we were starving. I will dine there again.

Thx
Ronnie

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Salacia. Overall, it was great, and was very quiet when we first arrived. Tables are fairly close together, and it became a bit loud as the dining room began to fill up.

It was disappointing. I finally got my entree two hours after my reservation time. I ordered crab cakes with a lobster tail. The tail was so salty that I couldn’t eat it. My waiter sent it back to the kitchen. He brought another one that was exactly the same. Extremely salty. I couldn’t eat it. The crab cakes were not good. Too much flour or breadcrumbs. The oysters at the beginning were very good as was the rose wine and the bread. That’s what I mostly had for dinner. My waiter was nice and diligent but not much he could do.

Took my wife here for a date night. Food was good but took forever. We were there for 3 hours. Had planned on going out after dinner but we're over it after taking so long. There are other options just as good and a lot more affordable.

I enjoyed celebrating my birthday but I was unhappy with the food. I asked for well done filet mignon but instead I received a medium. Once I requested my steak to be cooked more, my waiter happily took my steak to be cooked and I received freshly set plate however it came back medium-well. I did not want to be a pest so I just ate around the pieces that were not pink. I paid $135.00 for our meals and I was not happy at the end of the night.

We recently went to Salacia for our wedding anniversary. The private room was nice, but the room was quite warm. My husband enjoyed his filet mignon, but my filet oscar special was just so-so (slightly overlooked, shell with each bite if crab, hammered asparagusFor the price, I'd opt for Byrd and Baldwin in Norfolk.

We came in at 6 pm and no one was at the reception desk another connected restaurant had to call them. They sat us in the farthest table away from the ocean view windows even though 95% of the tables were empty. They were already out of one of their specials at 6pm. It was extremely hot inside. They were obviously short of staff. Table next to us that came in about 5 minutes after us didn't get there main entree until after we had already eaten our appetizers, first and main course. The restaurant took 2 hours to get them their main entree and didn't even comp them for the meal or do anything to make up for it. They blamed a shared kitchen to a busier restaurant. The oysters were great but everything else was nothing special. When you are paying for an upscale, exclusive, advertised private dining room you expect much better service and availability of food and view.

Seated right upon arrival, as well as greeted right away. Our server, Jason was very attentive and friendly. Food was amazing. Would have loved to of been seated outside. Found the indoors tables to be a bit too small and too close to each other.

As a frequent diner at Salacia, we love the outdoor booths. Wonderful setting and private. This time, it was Restaurant Week, which is always hectic. And we dined on a Saturday night. We selected the Restaurant Week 3 course special. The presentation was as normal, creative and unique. We would not order the monkfish entre again. The side of potatoes were not up to Salacia norm. We knew the busyness was the cause for a less than exceptional meal. But, our regular waiter Michael did his best under the circumstances, to live up to our expectations. We will certainly go back, as we love Salacia. Just not during Restaurant Week.

Attended restaurant week with friends who've never been there and I doubt that will ever go back… Food was not up to par for what they offer off the regular menu . A lot of people trying restaurants out for a restaurant weeks to determine if they'll go back at future times and neither one of my friends were impressed. The potatoes that came with our fish we're almost raw and tasted like they were freeze dried potatoes and the fish portion was extremely small.

Disappointed that our 7:30 reservation had somehow "been changed" to 8:15 - we didn't request a change. Eventually ended up seated, and dinner was worth the wait. We had the flash fried red snapper with asparagus as a side, and the fish was delicious. Attentive service as well made for an enjoyable evening, despite the delay.

Located in the Hilton Beachfront, Salacia is convenient to a parking garage and almost daily there is live entertainment right outside the main lobby. Salacia is a cut above restaurant for those looking for more than casual eats and wine. Salacia knows exactly how to set the mood for special occasions or fine dining. Dinner at Salacia was spectacular. Erol, our server, was a true professional in his field. He timed our appetizers, cocktails and entrees perfectly. Our dinner experience was no less five star dining. Salacia is a perfect location for diners who only want to experience a quiet, cozy or romantic dining experience with the right amount of background noise that will not interfere with your conversations. They offer a unique dining experience you don't find anywhere else in Virginia Beach. We enjoyed it and thanks to the management for keeping the Salacia brand from becoming just an average restaurant with all the bells and whistles.

Apart from taking awhile to be seated, our overall expierence was great!
This is especially true concerning the Wait Staff. They along with the hostess were extremely attentive.
I must say a special word about Michael. We've eaten in number of 4&5 star restaurants but the professionalism of this young man was impeccable!
His familIrarity with the menu along with his attentiveness to our table.
I must also mention the complementary items from the Chef!
All of this truly made our 44th Wedding Anniversary special.
