Sakura Garden Japanese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was decent enough but overall they used way too much butter in things that should have butter at all.... the staff was friendly but we had to frequently call for their attention despite the restaurant not being very busy. Overall experience was below average. Will not be returning.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary, and were introduced to Sakura Garden through a gift card from family. We went on a Monday evening, not as busy, and enjoyed a delicious habachi-prepared meal and a delightful atmosphere. Prices were reasonable and the food was fresh. Recommend!
I was very pleased with the service! I had made some requests when I booked it and they were followed to the letter. The food was excellent and we were not hustled out, as so many restaurants do.
I think some local restaurants (i.e.,Maggie McFly)staff could learn a lot from the service at Sakurai!
I really enjoyed the whole Sakura experience EXCEPT for the parking situation (which is not their fault). Too many businesses with dedicated empty spots forcing me to park much further away than I'd have liked. I will be back, but if the parking issue is the same it might make me (sadly) re-think this as a place to go... If that happens, will try another of their locations before jumping ship entirely...
Our Hibachi chef was not good overall. His energy level was poor; he barely engaged with our group and did very little of the usual hibachi entertainment. this was very disappointing particularly because it was my mother's first time doing Hibachi. Lastly, we had a vegetarian in our party and in spite of being made aware of the special dietary needs, the chef proceeded to cook the vegetable in the same spot that he had just cooked the chicken in. Wouldn't recommend Sakura to friends, at least not the one at this particular location.
Took my Sister to Sakura for her Birthday luncheon and we are both lovers of Japanese cuisine.
We began by ordering the Sakura Blue Raspberry Martini each which were superb, very tasty and whet the appetite for to pending feast.
For starters we chose Haru Maki, the Crispy Oyster and Vegetable Gyoza all were outstanding most notably the Sesame sauce that was served with the Haru Maki which we commented on to the service to ask the chef "Whats in that sauce?" They did tell us but swore us to secrecy!
We then moved on to OhToro or Fatty Tuna which is like eating a velvety smooth, buttery rich morsel that was so satisfying, you just have to try it to understand.
Along wth this we ordered Salmon Carpaccio with cucumber, pineapple, tomato, pine nuts, mint aioli and truffle oil, again Superb!
We then decided to get an order of the Chicken Pad This which is a regular for me at lunch and is always delightful.
Unfortunately, we hadn't the room for anything else so we didn't order desert however, I have had desert at this establishment and it has always been on par for the rest of the menu.
I can say without reservation that if you love Japanese food and your in driving distance or visiting the greater Hartford area, you must stop here. No doubt one of the jewels in dining in the Capitol region of Connecticut!
Located in a small shopping center with a few other restaurants with woefully inadequate parking, this Japanese eatery is a fine place for a decent meal. The food and sushi have always been good. Service is nothing special but acceptable. Never sat at the hibachi tables but I suspect the experience is like at any other similar restaurant. I think my feelings about this restaurant would be better if I didn't have to drive around for 20 minutes looking for parking and then end up parking across the street in a bank parking lot and walking over. This has now happened twice and will prevent me from making reservations here again on a weekend night. Unfortunately, no other Japanese restaurants that are in the area - if there were, I would certainly give them a go assuming decent parking!
