A horrific dining experience awaits you at Sakoon. The waiters DO NOT approach tables with waiting customers. We had to wave one down after a long wait and even then the gaggle of waiters just balked and looked at each other.

Let me repeat that. We had to wave at a gaggle of waiters to come help us but they all balked and looked at each other as if there was no one there to help. Finally, someone volunteered to greet us and get us water after 10 minutes.

Be prepared to hear "I'm not your waiter" from the ENTIRE waitstaff and hosts as they walk by. We had to wave people down for water. For drinks. And to place our order. We also had to BEG for our food to be brought to our table. "We just have a large party we're serving right now."

Horrible service and experience.

The food was good, would definitely try the achari seekh kebab again. However, the house chicken curry (murg sakoon) was not as flavorful. Good ambiance and service. During the meal, the staff and hostess got very antsy about our time to finish and wanted to hurry us along - this happened during rush hour at the restaurant around 8 pm on a Sunday, and they had patrons who specifically wanted our table. While I don't blame them for inquiring, we would have appreciated a little more tact.

One of te best Indian restaurants in the Bay area. Sakoon always has delicious food. The tandoori chicken was excellent in flavor and texture. The Aloo Gobi has lots of perfectly cooked cauliflower. The Sunday buffet also had a chat station with superb condiments. The desert station had 4 different deserts including scrumptious Gulab Jamon. The waiters bring fresh nan to the table. There is absolutely nothing left to be desired. We loved it!

There was a fire in the kitchen which made the hole experience bad. Hwoever, we finally got our food with some adjustments and it was free of charge. We will return when they have fixed the gas.

I reserved a table for 17 people using open table one week in advance. When we went there the manager gave us three different tables and put us in a booth instead of giving us one table. WHen I asked him he told me I am at least giving you a table. By giving us a table he was not doing us any favor, we had booked the table one week in advance. If he could not give us one table for all the 17 people he could have called me and let me know. I would have managed the booking at some other restaurant. Even he knew that at 12 PM it is impossible to get a table for 17 on castro, so just to trap us and mint money from us he behaved in this way.

The restaurant was quite busy and the service was on the slower side! The wait times between courses was too much for our comfort. We had to ask for attention a couple of times to get our order through. The person taking our order made us comfortable, however could have been around more.

This may have been an off day, but the naan was room temperature rather than hot, and that the ingredients seem to be a notch down from what they were a few months ago, especially the proteins. They used to have fish, and now there was a battered chili chicken, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, etc. It was OK, but I won't hurry back.

The restaurant was quite crowded with screaming children during this recent visit and the chicken was not very good, it was tough and chewy and over peppered. The Shrimp was too spicy, and unenjoyable. I have had decent food here in the past, so was very disappointed this time.

Fun cocktails. Wide variety of appetizers that I had never seen before. We had the ground chicken kabobs and the jhalmuri which were both wonderful. We had the butter chicken and kashmiri lamb dish that were both rich and spicy. This was our second time there and we will definitely go back.

Since some of the meat entrees do not specify that they come with vegetables, I ordered a Tandoori chicken and my wife had a combined tandoori vegetables and chicken appetizer. Truly, we split everything and it was delicious. For those without much of a spice tolerance, the waiters were very helpful in picking a dish and very accommodating with yogurt or mango chutney to cut the heat. Remaining food was packed in a tin foil wrap, but this was the only thing here that struck me as odd.
Would definitely return, maybe with even more of a guide to the cuisine.

I really love Sakoon's dinner offerings; they are a creative take on Indian cuisine. I thought the Saturday brunch was good, but it didn't stand out from the rest of the Indian lunch buffet's in the area, such as Amber, or Darbar. The food was very good, but I wouldn't say it was spectacular, which is how I would describe Sakoon's dinner menu. Also, the dishes were labeled with their authentic Indian names, but as someone who is not Indian, I wasn't sure what the ingredients were in some of them. Overall, it was still a very pleasant experience.

Sorry but our experience at Sakoon was very poor. The tables were so close that people walking by bumped our elbows and spilled food. The noise level was so high we could not talk. We did enjoy the food and it was a big selection at lunch. Unfortunately the staff wanted us to leave even though it was an hour before closing. They kept coming back to see if we paid our bill yet and indicated for us to pay. There were empty tables around us and no one waiting to be seated.

The food was very good - authentic Indian, and the wine list was good. The ambiance was nice and as a group of friends, we were able to talk without yelling to hear. I would recommend this restaurant, but it is a bit pricey for just an average evening out.

Sakoon provides a consistent and quality experience. Food was really good except for Veg Biryani, my favorite, was visibly too greasy. They were quick to acknowledge it and took it off from our check. Service was prompt and efficient. Highly recommend for anyone interested in good quality Indian food.

Absolutely lovely ambience! Good service albeit confusing. Food was definitely above average for the dishes we tried, but not great. Lamb kabab, dal sakoon were perfectly done but lasooni gobi was just ok - did not have lasoni (garlic) flavor at all. Garlic naan was disappointing - dry, hard to eat and tasteless which is a shame. Maybe other breads are better. Overall, I still highly recommend for the ambience, food which is better than other north Indian options!

Sakoon is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. Their buffet has a wide-ranging collection of non-traditional dishes along with traditional favorites like Chicken Tikka Masala. And unlike many other buffets, almost all their dishes are flavorful. I will recommend it much more for their lunch buffet than for a la carte dinner, since the latter usually ends up being much more expensive (at least 2-3 fold).

However, we were disappointed last Sunday when we found an inch-long piece of plastic embedded inside one of the Gulab Jamun desserts; it must have gotten in there when they mixed the batter. When we pointed it out to management they were apologetic and refunded my friend's lunch. We have been to Sakoon several times and this is the first time we had such a problem. We will probably have lunch again there, but they do need to pay closer attention to issues like this one.

Service was excellent. The manager even checked on us twice to make sure we were well taken care of. Sakoon still makes the best tandoori sea bass on the peninsula! The tandoori chicken was of a higher quality than what you get at the Indian lunch buffets. Many interesting an unusual dishes on the menu.

It was such a hot day (105 degrees)and their AC was not working well. Mix that with Indian and spicy food = no good. We had to ask multiple times for them to turn it on. Further, they tried to rush us ordering dinner even before we got our appetizers.
