This is my second visit to SakaMai, and it remains one of the best restaurants I have eaten in the last 12 months.
The service is amazing, knowledgeable, not overbearing, and the food is unique, tasty, rich.
Umi and bone marrow aren't for everyone, but I do believe this can be a great introduction to these foods.
The charred Broccolini is to die for. I dream of it.

We really enjoyed our Valentine's tasting menu meal tonight. Beautiful, tasty food, great service from attentive knowledgable servers and a lovely ambience. Would highly recommend!!

I have eaten at SakaMai multiple times and going for the Valentine's dinner really kind of ruined it for me. The prix fix menu looked really good on paper, but each course was a disappointment. Additionally, the wait between servings was extremely long - at times as long as 45 mins. I don't think I will opt to visit her again.

I noted that it was a friend’s birthday, but unfortunately it wasn’t recognized at during dinner. but food was delicious, the waiter was super friendly and efficient. we had a great time there.

This place is simply terrific.
Great unique food made with love
If you like Japanese food and want something up market and great then this place is for you. The Bluefin Tuna roll is a must have so unique and delicious. The Saki selection is another worthy feature. All round a really great place for a meal or a drink for anyone who is a foodie

Overall not as great as I thought. Food was good but didn't have that amazing taste I expected. Some of the food was so mild it was borderline bland. Very expensive, too. So it felt overpriced. The cocktail I had ("The Sakamai Punch") was very good. I would definitely return for the cocktails, however, the food was overpriced. Dessert was a redeeming item as well ("Mochi Parfait"). Service was attentive, however, one of our dishes was very very slow and when it arrived it was overcooked ("Wagyuu Hamburger Steak"). They claimed the delay was due to a ticketing issue in the back. We canceled the order and didn't want to wait another half hour for that one steak. Overall, my opinion is that it's overrated but not a bad place to try once for a special occasion. I would definitely return for drinks and dessert though.

Extensive sake selections. The truffle and uni rice is expensive $75 but delicious. The sashimi portions are on the smaller side. The cabbage salad was delicious.

I used to live in NYC and I came here to eat very often. I moved back to Chicago about half a year ago, but I really miss the food here, especially the amazing egg on egg on egg. I've been trying to find the similar thing in Chicago, but the only thing that came close is "egg on egg", omlete with caviar. So I flew back to NYC a few days ago to just revisit this lovely restaurant and I'm sure I overate that night. But it's just so worth it!

We went early for my husband’s birthday. It was comfortable, quiet, wonderful and interesting food! Great waiter and service. Probably nice do a light dinner too although we had some of the more rich options. Great Japanese whisky and Sake!

Must try: egg on egg on egg and uni mazemen

We also ordered shishito peppers, beef tartare, kakuni sliders, grilled octopus, 3 filet mignon entrees which were good.

Cons: We ordered 2 wagyu hamburger steak entrees (one medium rare and one medium and both were overcooked). For the price, it wasn't worth it. Also we ordered a fried chicken appetizer and it was still raw. Returned it and they took it off the bill.

It was a group of 6. Special occasion and our first time here. Won't be a returning customer.

Was there on new year eve. Love the sushimi for two and the service is good, waiter got very good knowledge on how to recommend and serve. Love the egg on egg definitely the must order for everytime. Price is fair and food over all is worthy the price. The only problem is the neighbors table was really really loud.

Great good, knowledgable service. The sashimi platter (for 1 to 3 people) was excellent, including an interesting take on oysters. Everything we ordered had unique flavors. Appetizers, sake and entrees totaled ~$60 per person

There was a great bar scene on a Tuesday night and perhaps it was because it was oyster night! Arrivng at 6:00 pm for our birthday dinner, we sat in the back where it was very quiet. We each ordered the Tasting Menu for $65 each and the selections were great--sashimi, salad, egg on egg, grilled octopus, duck breast, and a mochi dessert. We felt quite full by the time the duck breast arrived. If you wanted saki tasting to be added , it was $35 per person.
I heard from friends that their cocktail drinks are great! I would not hesitate to return to Sakamai for another meal!!

Can not rave about how much we loved SakaMai. Egg on Egg on Egg a must have. All dishes were a 10/10. My 3rd time there, my friends first time there. Will be going back ASAP.

If you like uni, you will love this place. Their mazemen is amazing. The egg^3 tastes very good but feels skimpy on the uni given the price (maybe it's the caviar?). The octopus is outstanding. One of the specials of the day, the madai age, is very good as well. We are seafood lovers and ordered accordingly and were very happy with everything, but they also have a whole section for steak if you're a meat person.
