Went for our son's 21st birthday (party of 6) on a Thursday night (12/6/18) Make sure to make reservations, the place is small and cozy. Ordered a bunch of the small plates, including mushroom dish, cornbread, oxtail, fish apps, all very delicious. Entrees ordered, hanger steak (melts in your mouth), branzino, shared with 2 people, delicious! All was great, including waitress. Will recommend to everyone.
Excellent cocktails and food. Highly recommend but you need a reservation
I love this spot! The food is always great and I’ve always had a great experience.
My most recent experience while visiting Richmond was not so great, but mostly due to service. Waitress had a sour attitude from the start and we were barely tended to.
The food was great, but we had terrible service from an extremely unapologetic manager (or someone who said she was manager that night?). We waited over a half hour for our food (table of 2) while tables that arrived after us were served some of the same entrees. The server/manager could have chosen to apologize, instead she was actually quite rude. We definitely wouldn’t have taken issue if her response wouldn’t have been so negative. I wish I could say I’d go back, but the service was just bad and there are lots of great restaurants where I can go and not be disrespected.
Our second visit this year. Did not disappoint. Flavorful. Lively. Richmond.
This is a solid restaurant that would be just fine, were it not for so many other really good restaurants in Richmond. The service was great, the space is nice, but the food is average. Again, a solid restaurant to eat a meal, but with so many others that are better, it is not likely we will be back.
My husband and I ate here while staying in Richmond overnight. We both noted that there were many things on the menu that we would love to try and the waitress was great and helped us decide. The food was excellent as were the drinks. Both were creative but not at the expense of quality. We would definitely go back and recommend it to our friends who live in the area.
Saison is possibly our favorite restaurant in Richmond. It's always surprising, always delicious, and always a blast. Food and cocktails change pretty frequently, so there's never a shortage of something new to try. I'll be back soon!
Incredible meal, good service.
Went for Restaurant Week. It was fabulous, unanimously from four diners.............
Went for Richmond Restaurant Week - and ALL of the food was superb 👌🏻 Never been before, which is why we chose to come here (and the menu). Far from disappointed and can’t wait to return! Small restaurant so seating is tight.
Ate at Saison during Richmond Restaurant Week. Menu selections varied & excellent. Our server, believe her name was Katie, was very knowledgeable, helpful & attentive.
Very noisy. Waitress was horrible and food was average at best. Won’t be going back.
Great food, central location, really good cocktail choices but, wow, it was loud.
My husband and I went to Saison for Richmond Restaurant Week. The food was spectacular. The servers were all very attentive and friendly. There was a good variety of beers, some of which I had never heard of before and look forward to trying on our next visit. The noise level was a bit too high for my taste but the atmosphere overall was great. I can't wait to try their regular menu.
Saison is our favorite restaurant in Richmond. We live an hour away and are happy to make the trip for their delicious food and cocktails!
Absolutely wonderful dining experience! We had the roasted duck and rock fish which were both uniquely prepared and beautifully presented! Our smaller dishes, butternut squash and the roasted mushrooms were also bursting with flavor...and can't even begin to describe the wonderful desserts. Would highly recommend Saison for any occasion...you won't be disappointed!
This is a gem of a restaurant. In a cozy but energetic room we ate a plate of hot flavorful fresh mushrooms followed by fried chicken perfectly crisp outside and moist inside with a side of frito pie. The duck confit with dumplings was heavenly and addictive. I cannot wait to go again.
One of my favorite restaurants in Richmond and one I always recommend to friends visiting. Great food and cocktails.
Food was wonderful as always. Best place for innovative cocktails. Can’t wait to come back!!!
Bar is a little tight, food is ok.
Found this neighborhood gem when down to visit my daughter at VCU. Great beer selection and little plate selection. We had the burned peppers with cheese, then on the pigs ears with egg plant. Finished up with the mushrooms and sweet potato. Really well done all around. Will definitely be back.
Great service. Unpretentious. The mushroom appetizer and Ox sopas were great. Rockfish solid, with the succotash garnish noteworthy. Burger is very good. Both the bartender and waitstaff attentive, friendly, and welcoming to visitors.
Simply superb. From the friendly bartender who perfectly curate our first round to the burger that I will crave daily to the inventive, deliciously thoughtful small plates. I could not have been happier.
Our hotel recommended this place and we ended up going there 2 nights. Both meals were fantastic! The cocktails were amazing. I loved the crispy rice vegan dish and my husband said the burger was the best he’d ever had. Great little place!
Loved getting my group of friends together at Saison. Getting a reservation ahead of time for a group is important because seating is limited, but they can accommodate larger parties and do a great job of it. The food was amazing, service good, ambiance cozy and classic, overall a wonderful find!
The cocktail menu was very disappointing. Not one drink made with vodka and the homemade tonic was awful. The food was amazing though. I would highly recommend looking at the menu beforehand
Great food and cocktails. Restaurant is the normal Jackson ward setting, small space with cool vibe.
Here’s a quick run-down of our experience. Servers were expeditious and friendly. The oxtail sopes, lamb tartare, and rundown (? Can’t remember the same but it was a mixed seafood dish) were hand-down a delicious, culinary treat. The coffee was fantastic, cappuccino for me and French-pressed decaf for my best friend. Dessert was disappointing but through no fault of the restaurant. We played the dangerous game of “we can’t decide between these so surprise us!” We did not win this round unfortunately, but the server was so gracious about it and removed it from our ticket. Cannot recommend this place enough, especially to those who really enjoy good food. The only real complaint I have is that the noise level was just a little too loud, it proved difficult to carry a conversation at times.
Went for my husband’s birthday on a Friday night. Service was exceptional and we were well cared for, but the restaurant was so loud we couldn’t hear eachother and had to yell. Don’t go here if you’re planning to have an in-depth conversation over dinner. Our cocktails were very unique and priced on par with other restaurants in this category. The food was very good. He had the steak and I had the lamb, but the portions were very large, and the meat was not of the quality you would expect for the price, probably because of the huge cuts of both lamb and steak. I would go again, but with a larger group and not for a date night.
Awesome dining experience. Delicious, gracious, fun, relaxed. Look forward to my next visit
Really enjoyed it
We enjoyed the Broccollini and Rockfish Collar appetizers (spicy, beautiful presentation, unusual and delicious). For main courses we had the Rundown, Hangar steak and the special Sunday fried chicken....all were wonderful!
A must if you’re in Richmond! The wings were amazing to start.
Fantastic meal-everything was very well seasoned and delicious. Waitstaff was overall attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back!
Saison is a must visit each time I’m in Richmond. It’s creative, changing menu, great service and wonderful food never disappoints.
Went to Saison during a weekend trip to Richmond with my mom. The food was phenomenal. I got the crispy rice bowl, and she got the rockfish. Both were great, and reasonably sized portions. The service was a little off, though. We waited a long time for our drinks and the check at the end. The waitress was knowledgeable about the gluten-free options (the fried chicken is advertised as gluten-free but is fried in the same oil as gluten, and she warned us).
A reservation is a good idea and usually not too hard to secure on a weeknight. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable with great recommendations on drinks and food.
This was a very good experience at Saison. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was spot-on and amazing. I had the "Rundown" with shrimp, mussels, sole and catfish, in a mild curry sauce. It was superb! Watched the bartender make a "Cre Ol' Fashioned" with rum and bitters. I'm a huge Old Fashioned fan and this was an interested twist with the rum. Very good. Finished it off with a white port. Ahhhh! Overall VERY good experience.
Great server, but the food was salty and took a long time
