Saison has always been one of my favorites, and this dinner just reaffirmed that! If you like spicy, try the chicken wing appetizer. The grilled swordfish was excellent and the fresh herbs added to the flavor. Dessert is fun. The blueberry ricotta is not too sweet, nor too heavy, but really refreshing as a summer dessert. The wines are interesting and we enjoyed a good organic one.
Should have a choice if sides w fried chicken
I loved my appetizer (roasted eggplant with cumin yogurt) and entree (coconut rice congee). But at a small table for three, we could barely hear each other over the noise. It got a bit much for us. Surprises me every time I'm there.
This is such a gem of a restaurant. The craft cocktails are to die for and half the fun is sitting at the bar watching the mixologists do their thing. Although my husband and I were only in town for the weekend, we decided to return for a second night because the food was a-maz-ing. The menu is small but boy do they pack each dish with some much flavor and color that you'll want to try one of everything. The restaurant is small and some might say a little cramped but please don't let this put you off, because you are seriously missing it out if you don't check this place out.
Food was amazing, great service and cocktails were very nice.
Extremely nice service staff and delicious food
I loved the relaxed feel of Saison. Our corner table became a little cramped as the dinner crowd arrived and customers actually had to move from their chairs to let us out. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the coconut rice congee dish, the chicken wings and the red snapper. Just awesome! Fairly small menu with a couple meatless options. Portions were perfect...not too much and not too little. It was a great first experience for us and we agreed we will return.
This restaurant was a little disappointing. All of our food was very one note- vinegary and sour tasting. The ingredients seemed fresh and high quality. Good drinks.
I was with a friend for dinner. We told the waitress that we had theater tickets at 8. We decided to share a bunch of small things and chose 3 items, including the tomato salad, which was really tasty. The waitress raved about the butter beans and convinced us to order them as a 4th item. It ended up being way too much food. The name, butter beans, was sort of a misnomer. They didn’t taste creamy or buttery, more like plain string beans that were a little too crisp with spices just thrown on them. That said, the other food, drinks and ambiance were great, and I will definitely go back to Saison.
One of our favorite restaurants! I had the burger for the first time and it was AWESOME!!! Looking forward to our next visit!
Everything tasted of vinegar and was highly salted
Our new favorite place. This was truly one of the best meals we have had in a long time.
We started with cocktails-Bubblegum Julep and Yeoman's Watch. Both were satisfyingly well balanced. There is a limited number of wines by the glass, but our selections with dinner were solid.
Our starters were a scallop crudo with pickled fish roe and lamb tartare. Both were bursting with flavor, delicious but not too heavy. Our mains were incredible, too. The smoked chicken was truly delicious with a smokey flavor that penetrated the entire piece not just the skin. I usually don't order pork in a restaurant because it is almost always over cooked. That was not the case here. The pork had just the sightest bit of pink. The barbeque rub was flavorful but did drown out the natural flavor of the meat. The pickled, smoked okra and grilled peaches and plums were perfect accompaniments.
Portions here are generous. In fact they were so generous that we did not order dessert.
The meal was delicious, everything from the cocktails to the appetizers to bthe entrees. Inventive tastes and delightful presentation. My only complaint is the noise got to be deafening, I found it hard to hear my dinner companion or even the waitress. But given that fact I would still recommend to friends and return maybe at a less busy time (though I doubt those exist).
Amazing food, cocktails, and service in a lively and fun setting.
Had all small plates and the Hummus, Skate wing and charred Egg Plant were all incredible. We also had the special of the soft shell crab very good but not as good as the others. The service was Spot On, however the Bar scene makes the place a little loud. Another GREAT Richmond restaurant. James Beard better get down here quick.
The food wasn’t great. A lot of it was way too salty, the halibut was over-cooked and nothing was really delicious (we tried 1 large plate and 3 small plates). Service was great and it’s a cute place.
Had a great meal at Saison - at first we were worried that there weren’t enough vegetarian options but we found four or five things that we ended up loving. Food was creative and well executed. Ambiance was romantic without being stuffy. Noise level was lively but not impossible to hear each other. We will definitely be back!
Exceptional as always, down to the ambiance and service.
Fried Chicken Sunday is the best! Saison was very accommodating with my 15 month old nephew! Great way to spend Father’s Day!
Dishes ranged from transcendent (Skate wing, liver mousse) to inedible (Cauliflower - just tasted like pure soy sauce). Duck confit was also over-the-top rich. Service was efficient if a bit brusque (verging on rude). Cocktails beautiful (tho. a tad on the weak side, alcohol-wise), wine list limited in range but excellent. Generally this is one of my favorite places to eat (travelled all the way from Charlottesville for dinner), but the bad cauliflower dish was a disappointment (I could only eat a few bites, but it was not comped - the waitress just said , "Huh. That's weird. It's one of my favorites.")
Only big issue was that they were out my favorite drink...
Soft shell crab rocked!
A happy oasis in the food storm that is Richmond, Saison has an eclectic menu with a Southern twang (Southern US and southern Mediterranean). The chick pea dishes are especially amazing and, who would guess, incredible fried chicken on Sundays?
Everything was delicious- Their menu is small, but everything we got was delicious- drinks were great.
Best meal in Richmond. Hands down. The food, the people, the drinks, everything is just 100% delightful.
I honestly hate that it’s in Richmond since I want to eat only there I am going to go seriously broke.
Server ignored me for my entire visit. Literally went to every other table for 20 minutes (there were three other tables that had people) before they decided to ask if I wanted anything. Quite possibly the worst service I have ever received. I decided to leave at that point. Went somewhere else for dinner.
We went here with a group of 7 for a graduation celebration and were not disappointed. The unique cocktails were fun to try and the food was excellent. Best pork chop I have ever eaten and my son said the same about his burger.
The food and service was very good. The main dishes were slow coming out of the kitchen. But the wait staff was attentive asking if we need anything while we waited. With construction in the area finding a parking place took a little time.
Definitely go for Sunday fried chicken. Great food and staff
I sincerely believe this is one of the most talented chefs in RVA. Been twice on the same menu and have both times been blown away.
We had three small plates and each was better than the last! Attentive service. Amazing meal
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. He really enjoyed it because he likes out of the ordinary food and is quite a daredevil when it comes to trying new things. We didn’t get any birthday perks though, which was a little disappointing, since we dropped so much on a dinner for 2.
We had a great meal!! Thank you!
Saison never fails to disappoint. The food and drinks are always spot on, and this evening was no exception. We had the cauliflower appetizer, which exploded with flavor and contrast, and the hanger steak, which was cooked to medium rare perfection and deliciously tender. The service was wonderful, as usual - attentive but not pretentious. One of the best things about Saison is the bar program. Creative beer list, wine list curated to the food, and the best cocktails in town! Thanks, Saison, for a great evening out!
We love Saison, it is one of our favorite restaurants in Richmond. The food is always excellent, the beer selection is superb, the cocktails are great, and the atmosphere makes for a really good time.
We enjoyed the restaurant. The food and service were great. Room for improvement: it was a bit stuffy and had an odd smell; the noise level was very high, even when not full.
Excellent service and food. Very knowledgeable and accommodating for food allergies as well.
Interesting palette of dishes. Took a bit long for the food the come but other than that love everything abt Saison.
Incredible food - you get what you pay for ($$$) so no disappointment there. Portions were actually larger that we expected. Drinks were just as unique as the rest of the menu. Great date night spot, although it did get loud as it filled up.
We really enjoyed our meals. They were quite innovative and the combination of ingredients and flavoring was great. We only wish they had more fish options for the main course or specials with fish.
