Excellent dinner. Glad we came again. I think St George is getting even better with age.
Not all entrees were available and the service was quite lackadaisical. What we ordered was very good, however.
Go for the entrees, cheese and wine/beer. (They were out of duck!?!?) It is not like a French cafe at all. If you've been to one or to the good ones in lower Manhattan, you'll know. The food is mediocre. The onion soup has pieces of duck meat, a blob of salty cheese in the middle, and then lumps of bread. It's more like a stew. Coq au vin- too much pancetta, too much flour. The escargot is tough/chewy (and needs more garlic), the other entrees were okay. No extra pot of chocolate with the profiteroles but it wasn't deep dark quality chocolate anyway. Save this for a quick wine and cheese stop after the train ride home.
My husband and I used to go to this gem when it was Buffet de la Gare and Saint George met all our memories and expectations. We love the upstairs addition. the food choices were authentic! We had escargot and foie gras to start....fresh and perfectly prepared! I had the special rack of lamb and husband had Coq au Vin.....all I can say is for the price...one couldn't get better French food with a Parisian feel in Westchester.....
Lovely Sunday drive from Manhattan's Upper Westside, under 30 minutes without too much traffic. The food and the service were both good. This restaurant feels like a French bistro. I'd like to try it again soon!
My husband met two others couples for a get together. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was festive! We love coming here!
The food was delicious but the service was a bit lacking. They need one or two more waiters.
We’ve been dining here since the beginning and have always had a wonderful dining experience!
Food, service was AMAZING!!!!!!
lovely French bistro in authentic, cozy setting. the menu is limited so you might want to check in advance to be certain there is something you like. it is also a bit pricey but overall a lovely experience.
As a vegetarian, there are not too many options on the menu. But still, the artichoke soup, the strawberry pie desert, and mostly the mushroom gnocchi, were all excellent.
Many many thanks for my waiter Alex!
Have the Coq au Vin. I will keep going back for that alone. They do a bunch of things very well...but have turned me into a Co au Vin freak of sorts! The downstairs has the character of a French bistro...but is a little nosier then upstairs....if you want quiet, head there, you want ambience, stay downstairs.
Really enjoyed a wonderful brunch at St. George. We had the escargot, mussel frites, and the eggs benedict. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere (relaxed Parisian bistro) could not be beat. We will be back!
Very nice night out, good food, well presented, interesting specials.
It was our first time at the restaurant. Food and service was excellent. Celebrating a birthday. Would definitely go back again.
Can't beat the mid-week prix fixe deal. Escargot & Coq au Vin. Wash it down with a cote du rhone. 'nuff said!
This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in Hastings-on-Hudson and one of the best restaurants in Westchester, NY.
What a great meal, onion soup , I dreamt about it, using duck instead of beef bouilluon what a difference. Beey bourgaine ,tender, flavorful, rich, sizes generous. My fellow dinner was as crazy about her meal escargot and coqu vin, cant wait to return. Staff was efficient and pleasant.
This has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants for brunch, lunch or dinner. The regular menu has diverse and delicious choices. But don't choose too quickly, because you can always count on the specials throwing a wrench in your ordering plans!
We always have a wonderful time at Saint George. Great service and food.
We came here for brunch to celebrate my father‘s 89th birthday. We have been here for dinner but never for brunch. The menu was very varied for brunch. The service was wonderful. And of course the food was delicious. I would highly recommend coming here
Good food, The gnocchi melts in your mouth. The wine was paired just right. Great place to catch up with friends.
Always worth the drive, always wonderful oysters. For brunch go with the lobster salad or the french toast (though my friends really loved the steak and eggs)
great service, thanks Erin
and all the food was great, everybody in my party of 6 very happy,
we'll have to go back for desert, it was mom's bday so we brought a cake,
thanks for accommodating us!!!
will definitely go back
Came for restaurant week. From the initial greeting the waiter made us feel unwelcome. Questions were answered with a shrug and indifference. Like a stereotypical French waiter except we weren't in France. All the other staff seemed nice and the food was good but will hesitate to come back
We have dined there several times and the food and service were always spot on. Delicious brunch selections, fresh coffee and deserts are a must. The bar is well stocked with every conceivable cocktail one could imagine. Our waiter was excellent, courteous and knows the menu quite well. If you’re ever in the area or not it’s worth the trip!
We have been going here every year for 15 years, with changes and all, were always pleased. Tonight the staff was in the weeds, and tables were empty. My drink order wrong, escargot fair, food veggies/ potatoes cold so sent back steaming hot when came out but then pork chop cold, waiter kept pouring tap in my bottled sparkling water. It was a night to celebrate our daughter’s adoption day since she loves France. Spoke to the manager at the end of evening and he asked if we’d ever been before, then was like sorry, pretty lame response. The original owner’s family would be so sad since service and connectivity to their patrons was so important. A $300 dinner should be special. Bummer.
I’ve been for brunch a few times and always amazing. This was my first time for dinner.
We were there for restaurant week and we Loved the diverse offering. Trout was huge ( I could not finish it). Crispy on the outside and nice and light on the inside...and creme brûlée were perfect! My husband had the duck terrine , pomme frites and flatiron steak. All were great! The ambiance is casual, cozy, and classy.
When we were first seated we were given options of either a table for two that was barely large enough for one person in a room that seemed nice or a table in the back -
Unfortunately, we opted for the back table. Big mistake. This offered us the waiter opening and closing a door that dropped freezing cold air into the room- forcing my date to move his seat.
Although they clearly participate in restaurant week, the person who brought menus did not bring the restaurant week menu unless requested.
Then, the SERVICE! Abysmal! The waiter did not offer to read the specials that they were offering as part of the restaurant week menu that evening. Thus said, we only learned of them after eating and hearing it at another table.
They too, had to request the restaurant week menu.
NOT ONCE, did the waiter ask if the food was to our liking.
He reached across the table to pour my water- spilling it and leaving it spilt on the table. He was slovenly. Having this ringside, backroom seat, afforded us the view of him chewing his own dinner in front of us. Or whatever meal he was eating.
The food was good enough-
The onion soup was very good.
My salad, and I would have preferred the one offered as a special had I been told of its existence, was fresh.
Main course of boeuf bourguignon, (up-charge) [even though only 5 items on list of entrees] that's right - there were more if the specials had been offered. Mine, the trout- was good- not exceptional- although it was a copious portion.
was not hot and a bit under-seasoned.
Dessert of chocolate mousse - quite good and generous portion.
If- the purpose of restaurant week is to acquire a greater customer base by offering your restaurant at a lower price and attracting you to return,- this was way off the mark.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was done to enhance the experience or make us feel that they valued our patronage.
NOT going to return-
We are old customers and always like it. First time for Brunch. Outstanding!
I went with a friend on Saturday night at 8pm, and the place was packed. The place definitely has captures the bistro feeling. The beef bourguignon was a poem! Tender and flavorful! My friend got the steak frites, and the fries were killer. We got the cheapest bottle of wine from the Bordeaux list, and it was fabulous. I have been there a number of times and have never been disappointed. I went recently for brunch on Saturday and my Euro snob friends were all delighted.
Thought we were going for Restaurant week. Unlike most other restaurants participating, they exempted Friday.
This is a great neighborhood place - such a nice French bistro feel with great food and drink. Probably most regular place for us to visit locally
Excellent meal during restaurant week...trout and coq au vin were outstanding...will definitely return
Excellent food. Large wine selection. Simple country like elegance. A must have to go on a nice date night or intimate dinner.
Excellent French Fare! I highly recommend this restaurant. It is not inexpensive but worth it
