Really great experience!
Food was good for the value in portions were excellent! Service was always on time and explained well. The cook recommended their hot sauce which I probably won’t order again. Aside from that the food was excellent
Delicious! Drinks were tasty, food was delicious and atmosphere was terrific.
Fabulous place for an easy date night. Highly recommend! Could also be good for a small group, they had amazing cocktails AND mocktails. We took home leftovers. :-)
Having been to Sai Woo at least a half dozen times, I love the craft cocktails, ambience and share plates. But I have had two very negative experiences with a staff member who reacted very poorly to my telling her that I have a cilantro allergy. Yes, I know lots of Asian food (Thai, Indian etc.) as well as Mexican food can be laced with cilantro. And yes, I still chose to go there because I like their food. But both times, several weeks apart, when I mentioned this (politely I might add), she was very rude about it (not my opinion, my wife's view the first time, and my daughter's the second time). Instead of politely advising that a lot of the dishes had cilantro but that she would speak to the kitchen (which is the proper response and the one I have experienced at every other restaurant I have mentioned this at), she was quite rude about it. Let's be clear, servers are in the service business! That is not service. My wife and I are foodies - we travel the world for food and have eaten everywhere from street stalls in the third world to muliple michelin starred restauarants include three three star restaurants (Mexico, Italy and USA). And several two starred restaurants and lots one one starred ones. This is the only place I have had such as negative response. Vancouver is a competitive food scene and restaurants should be working to entice people like us to come out and support their businesses. This kind of service does not hurt me, it only hurts the restaurant. Come on guys, get your act together.
Wonderful Ambience and style.
Inappropriate music that was too loud.
Service good, food good but small plates, dessert so so and not worth the money.
I had great time for dinner with my friends . The food, drink and service were all great. I also liked atmosphere inside of restaurant. I wanna go again.
Wonderful food, quick service, we really loved it!!
Came to SaiWoo for an anniversary dinner. Amazing food!! Shaking beef was tender and juicy, cauliflower and tofu was so flavorful. Cocktails were awesome as well. The interior is perfectly decorated and gives off a romantic, intimate vibe. Good music, great service, just awesome all around. Definitely coming back!!
Really great food and service! Try the Brussels sprouts if you can!
Great food, cool environment. Will definitely be back.
Great find, great food and service. The garlic chicken was amazing
Love the food and atmosphere at Sai Woo. Can't wait to come back.
Came here to celebrate my birthday, my friend recommended this place to me I had never been before. Horrible service! Our server took a long time to come over and greet us, she even had helped the table next to us who were seated 5 min after us. I’m a server so this was very disappointing for such a popular place. Food was great although our green beans came out after we finished everything else at the table. Server still never checked up on us only the tables beside us. Wanted to order more drinks and stay longer but we felt very un welcomed. Manager came over to apologize but she didn’t seem to concerned either, all she did was take care of one round of drinks. We then paid our bill and went to keefer bar down the street which was MUCH better.
Awesome food. Better than expected. Good vibe. Highly reccomend.
We went for a family dinner, some coming from out of town, and some meeting each other for the first time. Was magical, our server was exceptional, knowledgeable in the menu, personable and had the grooviest glasses. Our family was blown away.
Good service and unique asian fusion. Tried the garlic chicken, brussell sprouts, manatou bun, and spring rolls. Enjoyed every morsel.
Great Asian fusion dining. Particularly liked the share plates (gyoza, steam buns, popcorn chicken). Lots to choose from for mains, we ordered 3 dishes for the 3 of us (Duck Lo Mein, paella, sticky ribs) and it was plenty. All we’re terrific! Desserts were outstanding. Wines were very pricey. Well worth a visit in Chinatown!
We were in town for just the night and liked the description and menu we read online. We loved the ambiance of the place, but were mildly disappointed that it was dine out week and the menu was set to a small number of choices and those being Asian inspired. The food, however, was great as as the service. We would love to try it again next time we’re in town
We booked a birthday dinner for 14 girls and were never told that it was 'Dine Out'. We were very excited to finally try Sai Woo and the food that has been so highly recommended and unfortunately, were not able to do so. Service, decor, ambience, etc. were all amazing, however.
I love Sai Woo, but was disappointed during Dine Out. The portions were small and the menu not nearly as interesting as the main menu. I had thought we would be able to order from the main menu as well, that it would ONLY be the dine out menue.
Great service but food portions and value did not meet our expectations. We went to get food again after as we were not satisfied.
The food was not interesting. Portions are beyond small, and the presentation attempts to be avant garde but fails. When served a steamed plate of clams you will NOT get a finger bowl to clean up. The salted cream puff is a great idea, yet it is gluey and cloying so misses the mark. It was raining the night I went and staff allowed everyone to throw their wet umbrellas right in front of the door on the floor, about 15 umbrellas were heaped up and impossible to get out without stepping on them or slipping. The washrooms were beyond filthy with paper and mess all over everyone of them! Not going there again.
Very disappointed and not sure what happen to this restaurant. They may say it’s due to dine out, then I say don’t participate if you can’t produce better quality food. Think airplane food served on pretty plates...that was our experience.
The restaurant was nice, but the portions were shockingly small. We were 4 women and had to stop at a convenience store on the way home to pick up chips because the dine out menu food was minuscule. All three courses could have fit on one tiny plate. Really poor value.
Good food but portions for dine out were soooo small. Very hungry after dinner still..
Went here for dine out Vancouver and our experience was great. Enjoyed the food and service! Will come back again to try more things on the menu. Would recommend this spot for a date night or happy hour with friends.
Dine Out 2020: Upon arriving, we were seated right away at the tables across from the bar. It took 15 mins for someone to acknowledge our presence, even though there were staff at the bar cleaning glassware - no one even came to say 'hi' or offered water until then. I started with scallop ceviche, there was no freshness to the scallop and the dish was overpowered by the pickled vegetable. For entree, I had the tagliatelle that was made with kobocha squash cream, smoked garlic, and parmesan cheese. It's a decent dish with a good amount of creaminess and richness to it. Lastly, the cream puff with salted egg yolk was underwhelming from its presentation to the taste of it - it just didn't cut it. The bottom of the puff was almost soggy, as if the creme was sitting in the puff for some time. We also got the mango semifredo, and it was extremely difficult to scoop with a spoon since it was frozen to its core. Both my partner and I tried to scooping through the semifredo but it just flew off - we had to ask for a fork and a knife. We asked the server if it was suppose to be this hard and was told that 'it's suppose to be like ice-cream', but I beg to differ. When we were ready for the bill, we encountered the same issue where we were not able to allocate someone for a good 10 min but instead staff was prioritizing cleaning glassware.
A very modern setting, beautiful decor. I loved the special button lighting fixture to go with the tailor motif. The food was good and the service excellent. Will go back to try the regular menu instead of the Dine Out special one.
Portions were small
By the end of the meal we were still hungry
The service was great . But the overall quality of the meal was lacking.
I would say the evening was fine. Not great. Just fine.
We will not be returning
Everything was good, but found it a little noisy because of the big party beside us. They were a little loud but bearable :)
A charming, innovative star in Vancouver and especially in Chinatown. A must for fun dining!
We visited during Dine Out week and all the dishes that we tried from the Dine Out menu were cooked perfectly. All the dishes were well balanced and flavourful. The service was quick, the server friendly and engaging. Overall, we would return to try out their regular menu.
Tried sai woo for the first time during Dine Out and was unfortunately disappointed. The venue is very enjoyable. The service was adequate, but could be more attentive. The dishes we had were at best alright, but sadly some of the dishes were very unappealing.
Fabulous evening!
Not great sadly. I had made a reservation for dinner and upon arrival I was told I would only have the table for 2 hours and then I must vacate. Not a great first impression.
The food was very overpriced for what it was. The tables were too close together and the ambiance was not nice.
I won’t be back.
This place is a gem...doesnt look like much from the outside, but inside is a warm, intimate setting that is not often found in a Chinese place. The food is off the charts!
We had dinner here on a Sunday night and thought it was great. Very quiet but the food was good. Would be more fun on a busy night will a full restaurant though.
Had 7 different dishes. Each one was absolutely delicious. Our server was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. Happy hour drink prices were a nice bonus. Will definitely be coming back to try all new dishes!
Great food, nice ambiance! We were there with our family (kids 12 & 16) and everyone enjoyed the food.
